Abstract

This research was conducted to analyze decoding fillers in English learning talk show. The researchers made two groups of non-native English speakers to investigate fillers, Group one with little or no abroad experienced speakers and Group two with long term abroad experienced speakers. The researchers used descriptive qualitative as a method that describes an objective situation or certain event based on facts that appear or should be followed by an attempt to draw general conclusion. The procedure is ethnographic research which is ethnographic by qualitative enable researchers to understand the data by the functions of language (words, phrase and sentence) by grouping words that have same functions into categories. The researchers would analyze and conclude the data to be studied. In this research the data to be reviewed is English with Alice which contain fillers. The researchers found one hundred sixty-eight fillers with the exclusion of filler used by the host and both of speakers. After analyzing the data, the researchers found that 2 groups (14 guests) in the talk show English with Alice used different functions of decoding fillers. The functions in Group one are mostly (a) to begin and close a discourse and (c) to hold the floor. Moreover, the functions in Group two are mostly (c) to hold the floor and (g) to express the response.

Abstract

This community service had the aim of improving and developing teachers' online teaching learning processes for students. Rapid shifts in different aspects of life are one of the hallmarks of the globalization period. One of them is the advancement of science and technology, especially Information and Communication Technology (ICT), which has a significant positive impact on educational development. Teachers, in particular, need multimedia in the learning process. Educators play a critical role in guiding the learning process in the classroom. Teachers would find it easier to conduct online learning as a result of this socialization. Lectures with presentations, as well as drills or practice, are used in this community service project. After completing the activity, the researchers discovered the following findings: 1) Zoom, Google Classroom, and WhatsApp were chosen to be used by teachers in the teaching learning process; 2) Teachers agreed that e-learning was an important method of learning, 3) The soft skills of teachers in the use of certain e-learning resources improved, and 4) Teachers were willing to agree that the online teaching learning method was a part of teaching learning.

Abstract

This community service aims to improve and develop knowledge related to the Pancasila Student Profile program for educators and students. The Pancasila Student Profile Program is one of the Independent Learning programs launched by the Ministry of Education and Culture, which removes the National Examination and is replaced with a Minimum Competency Assessment (AKM) where one component of the AKM is a character survey which is a selected aspect of the six elements of the Pancasila Student Profile, namely faith. Moreover, pious to TYME and have a noble character, global diversity, cooperation, independence, critical and creative reasoning. The objectives of this socialization activity are: 1) Educators and students get to know the Pancasila Student Profile; 2) Educators are willing to implement the Pancasila Student Profile Program through habituation, coaching, and online learning; 3) Educators can implement the Pancasila Student Profile Program through habituation, coaching and online learning; 4) Educators prepare students to face AKM, especially character surveys; and 5) Achieved student Wellbeing

Abstract

Abstrak: Tujuan dari program pengabdian ini adalah untuk menanamkan wawasan dan juga pengetahuan perihal keterampilan yang wajib dimiliki oleh seorang guru di masa setelah pandemi Covid-19. Pengabdian kepada masyarakat ini dilakukan melalui metode ceramah dengan menggunakan presentasi powerpoint, tanya jawab dan juga diskusi tentang berbagai permasalahan yang muncul di sekolah. Kegiatan seminar dalam rangka pengabdian kepada masyarakat Kepala sekolah dan guru anggota KN-LWF anggota KN-LWF Pematangsiantar yang berjumlah 63 orang ini hadir dalam seminar yang bertempat di GKPS Jalan Jenderal Sudirman Pematangsiantar pada tanggal 23 November 2021 ini. Hasil dari pelaksanaan kegiatan ini adalah guru menjadi paham dan juga mendapatkan gambaran terhadap apa yang perlu dipersiapkan oleh diri mereka dalam mendapatkan kemampuan keterampilan 4C abad ke 21 melalui diskusi dan juga tanya jawab setelah pemaparan selesai. Dari kegiatan pengabdian tersebut, peneliti menyimpulkan bahwa guru dalam dunia pendidikan harus memiliki 4C 21st Century Learning Skills dan memberikan dampak yang mendalam bagi generasi penerus bangsa, memungkinkan mereka menghadapi dan mengatasi tantangan kehidupan abad ke-21.Abstract: The purpose of this community service program is to instill insight and knowledge about the skills that a teacher must possess in the post-Covid-19 pandemic. This community service was done through a lecture method using PowerPoint presentations, questions and answers and also discussions on a variety of issues that arise in the school. The seminar activities in the context of community service Pematangsiantar's KN-LWF members' principals and teachers, a total of 63 people, were in attendance at this seminar which was located at GKPS Jalan Jenderal Sudirman Pematangsiantar on November 23, 2021. The result of the implementation of this activity is that teachers understand and also get an idea of what they need to be prepared for in gaining 21st century 4C skills through discussion and also question and answer after the presentation was completed. After completing the community research, the researchers summarized that teachers in the world of education must have the 4C 21st Century Learning Skills and have a profound impact on the nation's next generation, enabling them to face and overcome 21st-century life's challenges.

Abstract

The artcile aims to clarify what types of code mixes are used in TV advertisements and why code mixing is used because a trend or style of speech in society, particularly among young people has evolved in the phenomenon of mixing code and changing code. Bilingualism always involves the use of code mixing in the daily conversation of people. This research was carried out with a qualitative description. The research used transcript by note as an instrument, for the purpose of this research. Note that the video transcription method was used. The information is 30 ads. Data from this research were all published on Tuesday, 1 June 2021, through Saturday 6 June 2021, by the 30 television ads selected by the researchers. The result is a compatible lexicalization and insertion which appears as types of code mixing in the advertising. and 4 reasons were found, namely talking on a specific subject, interjection, intention to clarify the content of the speech and group identity expression. Abstract

Kegiatan pengabdian kepada masyarakat yang dilakukan oleh tim dari PKM Universitas Simalungun pada tanggal 31 Maret 2021 bertempat di SMK GKPI 1 Pematangsiantar ini telah memberikan sumbangan yang sangat berarti bagi 40 guru-guru sekolah swasta di Pematangsiantar. Pelatihan tentang Pembelajaran Online pada masa Pandemi Covid 19 merupakan salah satu cara untuk membantu guru-guru untuk melakukan Pembelajaran di Era Revolusi Industri 4.0, Strategi Pembelajaran Online, Media pembelajaran Online, Aplikasi Pembelajaran Online, dan Pembelajaran di Era Pandemi. Kegiatan pengabdian masyarakat ini dapat dijadikan sebagai langkah awal untuk membantu guru-guru yang kesulitan dalam melaksanakan proses pembelajaran online karena situasi pandemi yang sedang berlangsung. Pelatihan menunjukkan bahwa guru-guru memiliki keinginan besar untuk mendapatkan informasi dan pengetahuan mengenai Pembelajaran di Era Revolusi Industri 4.0, Penggunaan Strategi, Media, dan Aplikasi yang dapat digunakan dalam menunjang proses pembelajaran yang efektif.

Abstract

Pengabdian  ini  menganalisis   kesulitan   belajar   bahasa   Inggris   siswa SMP Swasta Alwasliyah 40 Bandar Huluan. Fokus Pengabdianini adalah menemukan kesulitan siswa dalam menguasai kompetensi bahasa Inggris siswa SMP Swasta Alwasliyah 40 Bandar Huluan. Peneliti menggunakan pendekatan individual dalam mengumpulkan data kualitatif .  Prosedur  yang  digunakan melalui pemanfaatan Media dan Strategi pembelajaran untuk meningkatkan kualitas pengajaran.   Data  dianalisis  dengan  menggunakan pre – test dan post test,  yaitu: (1)  eksplorasi  pada  kedua  proses  belajar  siswa  dan  hasilnya;  (2) menganalisis hasil eksplorasi melalui wawancara dengan siswa. Temuan menunjukkan bahwa kesulitan siswa belajar bahasa Inggris: (1) rasa dipaksa; (2) penguasaan rendah pada konsep dasar / intake; (3) kurang dukungan dari lingkungan mereka; (4) memiliki lebih sedikit kesempatan untuk berlatih.  Sehubungan  dengan  temuan  tersebut,  disarankan  agar guru dan  sekolah harus  memfasilitasi  dan  memberikan  motivasi  tinggi  untuk  proses  belajar  bahasa Inggris siswa mereka.

Abstract

The study is aimed to find out the textual theme meaning from the song lyrics. The problem raised in this research: What kinds of thematic meaning found in the song lyrics of “Always” by Bon Jovi?. To answer the problem, the researchers applied qualitative research. The content analysis method was adapted in this research. The method of collecting data, the researchers used documentation and literature study. The data source is the song lyrics of the “Always” song lyrics. The results of this research show that there are 64 data. The researchers finds four types are: (1) 33 data to Interjection, (2) 10 data to Causal , (3) 8 data to Additive, (4) 13 data to Adversative. The percentages in Always song lyrics are: (1) 51,56 % to Interjection (2) 15,62 % Causal, (3) 0 for Conditional, (4) 12,5 % to Additive, (5) 20,31 % to Adversative. This result of result is hoped to be useful for those who are interested in learning about functional grammar.

Abstract

Penelitian ini dilakukan untuk menganalisis hubungan antara menonton film dengan dan tanpa subtitle terhadap pemahaman mendengarkan siswa pada siswa kelas VIII SMP N 2 Pematang Raya. Berkaitan dengan masalah: Apa hubungan antara menonton film dengan subtitle dan tanpa subtitle terhadap pemahaman mendengarkan siswa? Mana yang lebih efektif antara menonton film dengan subtitle atau tanpa subtitle pada pemahaman mendengarkan siswa? Untuk menjawab penelitian tersebut digunakan beberapa teori yaitu Arikunto (2010), Creswell (2012), Nunan (2003), dan Sugiyono (2013). Penelitian ini dirancang dengan metode penelitian kuantitatif dengan mengikuti pre-experimental design one group pre-test and post-test group design. Sampel dipilih secara acak dengan asumsi bahwa setiap kelas memiliki tingkat kemampuan yang sama. Melibatkan 29 siswa. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa dengan menggunakan film baik dan tanpa subtitle telah meningkatkan motivasi, skor dan respon siswa yang baik. Peningkatan prestasi belajar siswa dibuktikan dari hasil pre-test dan post-test. Nilai rata-rata pada pre-test adalah 54 sedangkan nilai rata-rata pada post-test adalah 82 dan standar deviasi adalah 6,74. Jadi, dari skor rata-rata dan hasil standar deviasi menunjukkan bahwa pemahaman mendengarkan siswa meningkat dengan menonton film dengan subtitle di kelas delapan SMP N 2 Pematang Raya.

Abstract

Salah satu program pengembangan yang sangat penting dalam pendidikan anak usia dini adalah pengembangan bahasa. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengembangkan kegiatan literasi denngan menggunakan Kegiatan Literasi Berbasis Teks Multimodal untuk anak usia dini di salah satu sekolah TK di Pematangsiantar. Metode deskriptif kualitatif diterapkan dalam penelitian ini. Sumber data penelitian ini adalah anak usia dini sebanyak 26 siswa. Observasi, wawancara, dan dokumentasi digunakan untuk memperoleh data. Triangulasi teknik dan triangulasi sumber digunakan dalam analisis data. Proses interpretasi data yang terkumpul menggunakan analisis deskriptif kualitatif. Penelitian ini mengalami peningkatan kenyamanan lingkungan belajar peserta didik dengan persentase peningkatan rata-rata sebesar 15,8% sehingga kegiatan literasi berbasis multimodal ini layak untuk dikembangkan dan dilaksanakan pada anak usia dini. Para peneliti juga menyarankan agar pihak sekolah memahami pentingnya membangun lingkungan literasi yang baik di dalam kelas dalam mendukung penerapan literasi berbasis multimodal untuk perkembangan kemampuan literasi anak
