Abstract

This study aimed to assess the potency of forages in Muna Barat Regency as cattle and goat feed. The study was performed by performing forage observation based on the forage production multiplied by the harvested area, and presented on dry matter unit (DM). Sampling was carried out by using a designed square tool. Forages that was evaluated on this study was legume groups. Data analysis was performed by using carrying capacity method. The study reveals that there are 8 types of forages found in Muna Barat Regency. The dry matter of those forages can meet the feed requirement for cattle and goat in Muna Barat Regency. The result of KPRR analysis shows that Muna Barat Regency has carrying capacity for 2,669 cattle and 3,293 goat.

Abstract

The objective of this study was to determine the activity and the stability of bacteriocin from lactic acid bacteria (BAL) isolated from rumen fluid of thin-tail sheep under the temperature (80, 100, and 121°C), pH (3, 7, and 10), and the length of storage (for 2 weeks under the temperature -8, 11, and 29°C). Lactic acid bacteria obtained by isolation, selection, and identification of thin-tailed sheep rumen fluid were used for bacteriocin production. The crude bacteriocin was partially purified using 70% ammonium sulfate, then was dialysis for 12 hours. The obtained bacteriocin then tested its inhibitory activity against E.coli (representing Gram-negative) and S. aureus (representing Gram-positive) under temperature (80, 100, and 121°C), pH (3, 7, and 10), and the length of storage (for 2 weeks under the temperature -8, 11, and 29°C). The data of bacteriocin activity based on pH, temperature, and the length of storage were analyzed with factorial, then when there was a significant difference of variable because treatment was continued with Duncan's Multiple Range Test (DMRT) test. The results showed that the bacteriocin activity of the three types of BAL against S.aureus is greater than E.coli. The highest activity was shown in pH 3, while the lowest activity was shown at pH 10 (P<0.01). The highest activity was shown at a heating temperature of 100°C, while the lowest activity was shown at a heating temperature of 80°C (P<0.01). The activity of bacteriocin produced by BAL 0 A, BAL 1 A, and BAL 4 C tended to be stable to the heating temperature of 80, 100, and 121°C but decreased with increasing pH value (pH 3, 7, and 10). The best of bacteriocin activity was found at pH 3 (acid), heating at 100°C, and stored at -8°C for 14 days.

Abstract

This study aimed to analyze the characteristics of goat milk kefir based on the incubation time variations on physicochemical, microbial and organoleptic. The method used was an experimental method using a Completely Randomized Design with 3 various incubation time which were for 12 hours, 18 hours and 24 hours with five replications. Parameters measured were physicochemical characteristics (pH, lactic acid concentration, and ethanol content), microbial characteristics which as the total number of lactic acid bacteria (LAB) colonies and the organoleptic characteristics were color, aroma, taste and favorability level towards goat milk kefir. Physicochemical and microbial data were analyzed by Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) while the organoleptic data were analyzed descriptively. The results showed that the incubation time gave significantly difference effect (P<0.05) on the pH, lactic acid concentration, the total number of LAB goat milk kefir and did not significant effect on the ethanol content. The organoleptic results showed that the incubation time didn’t significant effect on color and aroma, however gave significant affects on the tastes and favorability towards goat milk kefir. It can be concluded that the best incubation time was 24 hours. The physicochemical characteristics showed the pH value at 4.16±0.089; lactic acid concentration at 0.24±0.039%; ethanol content at 0.75±0.044%. The microbiology characteristics, the total number of Lactic Acid Bacteria at 1,24x107±0,008 CFU/ml. The characteristic of organoleptic color at 3.95 (white); aroma at 4.10 (kefir scent); taste at 4.25 (poor acid) and favorability at 4.15 (like).

Abstract

The objectives of this study were to analyze the competitiveness of the beef cattle farming in Gorontalo District, to analyze the impact of government policies on competitiveness and to analyze the impact of changes in input and output factors of production to competitiveness. Primary data were obtained from 60 respondents were selected using non-probability sampling method. The analysis methods used were Policy Analysis Matrix (PAM) and sensitivity analysis. The results of the analysis showed that the commodity beef cattle in Gorontalo District has a weak competitiveness. The impact of policy to the beef cattle farming showed that the farmers are not protected by government policies (EPC<1). The impact of changes in input and output of production on the competitiveness showed that: 1) the increase in the price of domestic meat and the world respectively 8.44%  and 10% will increase the competitiveness, 2) an increase in the price of feeder cattle at 3.28%, forage feed costs by 10% and labor costs by 10% will impact beef cattle farming do not have a competitive advantage but still have a comparative advantage, and 3) increase in meat production about 12.72% will increase the competitiveness of beef cattle.

Abstract

This research was aimed to determine the growth, production and prussic acid content of sorghum variety that planted on stylosanthes pasture with different harvesting time. This research was done using split-plot design with three replications which sorghum variety (brown midrib resistance (BMR) and Super-2) as the main plot and harvesting time (6, 8 and 10 weeks) as the sub plot. The sorghum seeds were germinated for 12 days before planted on the 30 days stylosanthes pasture which was planted with planting space 25 x 25 cm. Sorghum was planted with planting space 75 x 25 cm. The variables observed were plants height, dry and organic matter production and prussic acid. Data obtained were analyzed statistically using analysis of variance and significantly different between means were tested with Duncan's New Multiple Range Test  (DMRT). Sorghum BMR had plant height, dry and organic matter production higher (P<0.05) than Super-2. Prussic acid content of BMR was lower (P<0.05) than Super-2. The older harvesting time increase (P<0.05) plant height, dry matter and organic production, but reduced (P<0.05) prussic acid content from 727.34 mg/kg to 241.71 mg/kg. Based on the results it can be concluded that the oldest harvesting time (10 weeks) produced the highest dry and organic matter, and reduce prussic acid content. Sorghum BMR is more productive and grew faster than Super-2. Sorghum BMR that harvested in 10-week shows the best in growth and productivity also had lower prussic acid content.

Abstract

The aim of this research was to know the effect of supplemented fermented purslane flour (FPF) in diet on the chemical quality, and microbiology of broiler chicken meat. One hundred DOC were used in this research. This research used a completely randomized design with 5 treatments and 4 replications. The treatments were K0 = commercial diet without FPF, K1 = commercial diet + 2.5% FPF, K2 = commercial diet + 5% FPF, K3 = commercial diet + 7.5% FPF, and K4 = commercial diet + 10% FPF. The variables studied were water content, protein content, and cholesterol levels of meat and contamination of Salmonella sp. Data were analyzed using Analysis of Variance (ANOVA). The results showed that the supplemented fermented purslane flour in diet significantly affected the water content and protein content of meat, but it did not significantly affect the cholesterol meat levels and contamination of Salmonella sp. It was concluded that the supplemented of fermented purslane flour in broiler chickens with a level of 10% was the best level. At this level, chicken meat is produced with the lowest water content while the highest protein content.

Abstract

This aims of this study was to estimate the bodyweight of FH dairy cows from birth to first child by knowing growth patterns and creating a standard curve for dairy cattle growth at BBPTU-HPT Baturraden dairy cow in Baturraden district, Banyumas Regency, Purwokerto, Central Java. Data obtained in the form of secondary data from births in 2005-2016 were 1437 tails and primary data were 353 tails. Data were analyzed using SAS 9.4 program with NLIN procedures (Non-Linear) using Gompertz models. The results show that the Gompertz models is easy in the calculation process with the data deviations that are close to the field of data and the models have a high degree of accuracy with the coefficient of determination (R2 ) 99.83%. The conclusion of this study is that the resulting curve of the Gompertz model can be used as a standard growth curve of Friesian Holstein dairy cattle in Indonesia from birth to first calf.

Abstract

This study was examines the effect of oil (oil palm and corn) combination with the level of protection (total or partial) on feed fermentability, methane production and energy efficiency with in vitro techniques. The experiment was designed using a factorial pattern 2x2, factor A = type of oil (corn and palm) and factor B = oil protection level (total and partial), each treatment combination was repeated 4 times. Data was processed by analyzing various factorial patterns in a randomized block design and if there was an influence between treatments performed by the Dunca test. The results showed that there was no interaction effect (P>0.05) between the types of oil with the level of protection in all parameters, except NH3. Supplementation of palm oil produces total volatyle fatty acids (VFA), acetate and methane (CH4) production higher than corn oil (P<0.05), but the efficiency of converting hexose energy to VFA (ECH) was lower (P<0.05) (76.09 vs 77.80%). Supplementation of total protected oil decreased in the protozoa population, resulting in higher dry matter digestibility (DMD) and organic matter digestibility (OMD), but lower ECH yield compared to partial protected oil supplementation (P<0.05), ie 76.68 vs 77.22%. The conclusions of the study are corn oil produce of ECH higher than palm oil. Partial protection produce better feed fermentability and increasing energy efficiency in the form of decreasing A/P ratio and methane production.

Abstract

This study was conducted to examine the effect of Hemicell® addition on diets containing different levels of crude fiber on performance and egg quality of laying hens. A total of 72 laying hens aged 21 weeks were randomly divided into 18 experimental units. A completely randomized design with factorial design 2×3 and 3 replications was employed in this study. Factor A was crude fiber level (5% and 8%) and factor B was the level of Hemicell®(0, 100x103 and 200x103 IU/kg ration).  Results showed that crude fiber significantly (P<0.01) increased feed consumption and decreased the performance of laying hens. The addition of Hemicell®in diets significantly (P<0.01) decreased feed consumption and increased the performance of laying hens. Hemicell®addition (100 IU) to a diet containing 8% crude fiber significantly (P<0.05) affected egg mass, feed conversion ratio, egg yolk score and egg weight. It can be concluded that diet with 8% crude fiber added with Hemicell® (100 IU) could increase egg mass, feed conversion ratio, egg weight and yolk color score.

Abstract

This study aims at identifying nucleus companies’ service quality, broiler farmers’ satisfaction and the relationship between contract farming services quality and broiler farmers’ satisfaction in Banyumas Regency. The study takes survey method to broiler farmers participating in contract farming programs from five nucleus companies in Banyumas Regency as its population. 50 broiler farmers are selected using the proportional random sampling method based on Slovin formula as respondents. The data obtained are analyzed by employing descriptive statistics and Correlation Rank Spearman Analysis. The results show that the farmers are averagely 44 years old with mostly junior high education, and 76% of the respondents have broiler farming as their main livelihood. The farmers have quite a long time of experience (8.92 years) in raising broiler farming. Their satisfaction of the contract farming model’s service is of medium category (score 84.02) and their perception of the nucleus companies’ service quality is of medium category (score 86.34). The Spearman Rank Correlation analysis shows that the nucleus companies’ service quality is significantly related to the broiler farmers’ satisfaction (P<0.01) with a strong correlation coefficient of 0.761. The nucleus companies’ services in broiler contract farming model must be continuously improved to increase broiler farmers’ satisfaction.
