Abstract

Perkembangan ICT berlangsung sangat cepat dan semakin murah diakses. Namun, kenyataan di lapangan menunjukkan bahwa banyak mahasiswa Jurusan Pariwisata dan Perhotelan belum terampil menggunakan komputer dan internet. Di pihak lain, banyak pengajar belum mampu mengintegrasikan ICT ke dalam perkuliahan karena berbagai mitos yang dimilikinya. Tulisan ini bertujuan untuk mengkaji peran ICT dalam industri pariwisata dan perhotelan dan pemikiran tentang peluang sekaligus tantangan pemanfaatan ICT dalam perkuliahan di Jurusan Pariwisata dan Perhotelan. Hasil kajian menunjukkan bahwa: (1) ICT berperan penting bagi industri pariwisata dan perhotelan untuk membantu promosi, membuat keputusan manajerial, meningkatkan produktivitas dan kualitas pelayanan; (2) peluang penggunaan pembelajaran berbasis ICT dalam perkuliahan untuk jurusan pariwisata dan perhotelan adalah: mendorong mahasiswa menemukan informasi di internet dan mengirimkannya via email kepada dosen (conceptual learning), mengajak mahasiswa berinteraksi online (collaborative learning), dan membuat mahasiswa melakukan penelitian dan analisis (research and analysis); dan (3) tantangan yang dihadapi pengajar dalam mengimplementasikan pembelajaran berbasis ICT di Jurusan Pariwisata dan Perhotelan antara lain: kurangnya kemampuan dosen dan mahasiswa, kurangnya fasilitas pendukung, dan kurangnya dukungan finansial. Karena keterampilan menggunakan IT merupakan salah satu kriteria penting sebagai profesional manager di bidang perhotelan, maka mahasiswa sangat penting dibiasakan menggunakan teknologi dalam aktivitas pembelajaran.Kata-kata Kunci: pembelajaran berbasis ICT, peran ICT, tantangan pemanfaatan ICT

Abstract

The implication of the growing number of mature people is becoming contemporary issues for tourism and hospitality business. Managers need to have better understanding about the motives of older people to go travelling and how they behave in the tourist destination, what their need and expectation are. This report attempts to extend the theoretical and empirical evidence about the relationship among older people motivations, behaviours, expectations and mature market segmentation. The .findings of literature reviews also reveal the differences of senior traveller motivation and expectation due to differences of nationality and culture background. Finally, this study highlighted the implication of this issue to the tourism and hospitality businesses.

Abstract

Developing sustainable tourism which can help destinations to increase the ben­efits and minimize the risks of the tourism industry is still becoming a challenge for the tourism authorities in some countries. Destination benchmarking is one of the programmes that give further knowledge and skill about how to develop sustainable tourism. Therefore, this paper will discuss the benefits of destination benchmarking as an effective tool for sustainable tourism in terms of chance to learn from others, maintaining competitive performances and increasing tourist destination profitability. Hence, it is suggested that the destination authorities in Indonesia join the destination benchmarking programme in order to improve tour­ist destination performances and to develop sustainable tourism in Indonesia.

Abstract

Managing diversity becomes one of the most important/actors in ensuring company competitiveness. This paper explores the theories about diversity management and compares them with the practices in organizations a11d then examines late organizations' diversity programs I/trough their employees' perceptions. The findings illustrate that there is a gap between managing diversity theories and practices in organizations and some barriers in implementing diversity program, especially ill the hospitality industry. Therefore, it is suggested that human resources practices that make one conse11sus about the precise definition of workforce diversity as a guideline in developing diversity training programs. Organizations also need to change their approach from a reactive approach to a proactive approach toward workforce diversity. Communication told openness to dissimilarity can reduce the barriers in implementing diversity programs.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the effect of: (1) education level on employee performance, (2) career development on employee performance, (3) education level on career development and (4) education level and career development on employee performance through career development at PT. Bank Pembangunan Daerah Bali Cabang Seririt. The research design used in this study is causal quantitative. Research subjects were all employees of PT. Bank Pembangunan Daerah Bali Cabang Seririt with population of 52 people. Data collected by questionnaire and it’s by path analysis. The results showed that: (1) education level has positive and significant effect on employee performance (2) career development has positive and significant effect on employee performance, (3) education level has positive and significant effect on career development and (4) education level and career development has positive effect and significant on employee performance.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menguji pengaruh: (1) pelatihan dan pengembangan karier terhadap kinerja karyawan,(2) pelatihan terhadap pegembangan karier, (3) pelatihan terhadap kinerja karyawan, (4) pengembangan karier terhadap kinerja karyawan. Penelitian ini menggunakan desain kuantitatif kausal. Populasi dalam penelitian ini adalah karyawan pada Munduk Moding Plantation Nature Resort and Spa yang berjumlah 78 karyawan. Data dikumpulkan melalui kuesioner dan kemudian dianalisis dengan teknik analisis jalur. Hasil penelitian menunjukan bahwa: (1) pelatihan dan pengembangan karier berpengaruh signifikanterhadap kinerja karyawan, (2) pelatihan berpengaruh positif dan signifikan terhadap pengembangan karier, (3) pelatihan berpengaruh positif dan signifikan terhadap kinerja karyawan, (4) pengembangan karier berpengaruh positif dan signifikan terhadap kinerja karyawan.

Abstract

This research aims to determine the strategy of upgrading waiter/ss skills at Makase Restaurant. The subject of this study is Supervisor and employee of Makase Restaurant. The object of this study is a strategy to improve the skills of waiter/ss at Makase Restaurant. Data collection methods are observations, documentation and interviews. The results of this research are (1) waiter/ss constraints in serving guests at Makase Restaurant is a limitation of foreign languages because not all guests can speak English cause slow service and guest complaint. (2) the strategy used to improve the skills of waiter/ss is to provide consistent training, competency tests, and hold competitions in hotels that can affect operational smoothness, increase guest satisfaction and increase sales.

Abstract

This study aimed at analyzing the English language skills functions and expressions needed as a waiter/ss. This research was a qualitative descriptive. The method used in obtaining the required information were interviews and documentation, in which subjects in this research were Asst. F&B Service Manager, Restaurant Manager, Supervisor, and Restaurant Staff in 5-Star Hotel in Bali. The results of this study indicated that (1) Speaking & listening skills are the main poins that must be mastered by a waiter/ss, and the accuracy of grammar and fluency in communication also have an equally important role, (2) The expression of the language used adjusts to predetermined language functions based on the implementation of Sequence of Service (SOS) in restaurants. From the results of this study it may be necessary to further research on analyzing the needs of English Waiters in a broader scope.

Abstract

This study aimed to determine the standard operating procedures at Envy Restaurant, the implementation at Envy Restaurant, and strategies to improve service quality at Envy Restaurant. The research used a qualitative descriptive method. Data were collected observation, interviews and documentation. The subjects in this study were supervisors and staff in Envy Restaurant. The results of this study indicates that : (1) Envy restaurant does already have standard operating procedures and has been monitored in every implementation by managers or supervisors, but in the case of its application, it is still found to be incompatible with the standards owned; (2) To improve the quality of service in Envy Restaurant, it is also necessary to evaluate, give morning  briefing, provide  feedback, conduct role play training. It is important that superiors taking a persuasive approach to the staffs to do the job based on the standard procedure.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menguji pengaruh: (1) penempatan karyawan dan pengembangan karier terhadap kinerja karyawan,(2) penempatan karyawan terhadap pegembangan karier, (3) pengembangan karier terhadap kinerja karyawan. Data dikumpulkan melalui kuesioner dan kemudian dianalisis dengan teknik analisis jregresi linier berganda. Hasil penelitian menunjukan bahwa: (1) penempatan karyawan dan pengembangan karier berpengaruh signifikan terhadap kinerja karyawan, (2) penempatan karyawan berpengaruh positif dan signifikan terhadap pengembangan karier, (3) pengembangan karier berpengaruh positif dan signifikan terhadap kinerja karyawan.
