Abstract

Background: The Hymenoptera Order is one of the most dominant orders in the insect class, both in number of species and in their distribution in various habitats. The role of the Hymenoptera Order, especially parasitoids, is very important in a habitat. The purpose of this study was to determine the diversity of parasitoid insects, especially the order Hymenoptera in rice fields and vegetable gardens. Methods: This research is analytic descriptive. The research method used is a line transect using a sampling technique. The study was conducted in two research areas (rice fields and vegetable gardens) and used three fishing gears (malaise traps, buckets, and insect nets). Results: The results showed that the total number of insects caught was 5037 individuals from 10 orders and 80 family. The diversity of parasitoid insects in this study is in the rice fields H' = 1.80 (moderate diversity) and vegetable gardens H' = 2.26 (moderate diversity). Conclusions: Hymenoptera parasitoid insect diversity was highest in the vegetable garden area.

Abstract

Habitat is a place for living things to grow and develop. Differences in physical characteristics of habitats within an area can affect the morphometry of an organism. This study aims to provide information related to the morphometric variation of the carpenter bees Xylocopa confusa Latreille and Xylocopa latipes Drury in different habitats in Central Sulawesi. The research was conducted in four types of habitat, namely primary forest, secondary forest, rural areas, and urban areas in January 2019. The collection of carpenter bees useds a sweep net by swinging it around the sampling location. The carpenter bees obtained were then killed in a killing jar for five minutes. The carpenter bees samples were put into a sample bottle based on the type of habitat. Furthermore, the pinning process was carried out using insect needles. The results showed that the physical characteristics of the different habitats could affect the morphometric variations of the carpenter bees Xylocopa confusa and Xylocopa latipes. The size of the body morphometry of carpenter bees is larger in primary forest habitats, while the smallest size of bees is found in urban areas. This research is useful as preliminary data before carrying out the cultivation and conservation process of wood bees considering that their role in nature is very important.

Abstract

One of the marine areas in Central Sulawesi is Palu Bay. Research on the Density and Diversity of Zooplankton Species in the Palu Bay area of Central Sulawesi after the Tsunami Disaster 28 September 2018. This study aims to determine: Density and Diversity Index of Zooplankton Species. Sampling is carried out at the beginning of the month by considering the state of the neighbours, namely the transition between the first and second full tides when the tidal currents are weak. The research design used a completely randomized design model with seasons, stations, and depths as treatments. Community analysis based on species identification, number of individuals, density, diversity index,. The results showed that the composition of the zooplankton community in the Palu bay area after the Tsunami Disaster of 28 September 2018 consisted of 23 types of zooplankton, which were dominated by: the Copepoda group. The values of the Density and Diversity Index are influenced by habitat, time, and sea depth. The conclusion is that habitat or station, season, and depth are the 3 main factors that affect the density and diversity of zooplankton taxon species in the Palu Bay area.

Abstract

Hymenopteran order is an order of insects that is useful for pollinating plants, producing honey and wax and can kill insects that harm plants (pests). This study aims to determine the results of collections of Hymenoptera parasitoid insects from forest stands and rice fields. The research was carried out in January-March 2019. The sampling locations were carried out in two types of areas, namely forest stands and rice fields. Based on the results of the study, it was found that the two orders of insects that had a dominant number from the collection were the Order Diptera and Order Hymenoptera. The number of Hymenoptera insects in the forest stands and rice fields were 1.586 individuals and 2.179 individuals, respectively, with a total of 21 families of parasitoid insects. The use of separators in the collection of Hymenoptera parasitoid insects has several advantages compared to using other insect net, namely making it easier to collect insects and the number of insects caught is also higher.
