Abstract

Discrepancies between the number of women voters and their low legislative representation is an interesting topic of study. The laws and regulations on parties’ eligibility for elections have assigned the proportions of women candidates. These laws have been reformed continuously during elections. However, the result remained the same until the recent 2019 election. This contradicts the reality that the number of women voters, which is more than half the total population, should supply the threshold quota. Therefore, this study examines the relationship between women's preferences and other elements, including voters' characteristics and their participation in political organizations. Online questionnaires were distributed to elicit responses from 1,042 women voters. The analysis of data was performed using descriptive and inferential statistics. Primarily, inferential statistics were used to examine the relationship between the variables utilizing the Chi-Square Test of Independence. The findings confirmed that more women voted for male candidates. However, regardless of occupation, women are interested in joining political parties and assuming leadership roles. Due to the snowballing sampling procedure, it is difficult to generalize the findings of this research. For this reason, future research should target the respondents that have frequently participated in elections to accommodate more generalized findings. Keywords: woman voters, under-representation, woman legislative candidates AbstrakKesenjangan antara jumlah pemilih perempuan dengan keterwakilan legislatif yang rendah menjadi topik kajian yang menarik. Undang-undang dan peraturan tentang kelayakan partai untuk pemilihan telah menetapkan proporsi kandidat perempuan. Undang-undang ini telah direformasi terus menerus selama pemilu. Namun, hasilnya tetap sama hingga pemilu 2019 baru-baru ini. Hal ini bertolak belakang dengan kenyataan bahwa jumlah pemilih perempuan yang lebih dari separuh jumlah penduduk harus memenuhi ambang batas kuota. Oleh karena itu, penelitian ini mengkaji hubungan antara preferensi perempuan dengan elemen lainnya, termasuk karakteristik pemilih dan partisipasi mereka dalam organisasi politik. Kuesioner online dibagikan untuk mendapatkan tanggapan dari 1.042 pemilih perempuan. Analisis data dilakukan dengan menggunakan statistik deskriptif dan inferensial. Terutama, statistik inferensial digunakan untuk menguji hubungan antara variabel menggunakan Uji Independensi Chi-Square. Temuan menegaskan bahwa lebih banyak perempuan memilih calon laki-laki. Namun, terlepas dari pekerjaan, perempuan tertarik untuk bergabung dengan partai politik dan mengambil peran kepemimpinan. Karena prosedur pengambilan sampel bola salju, sulit untuk menggeneralisasi temuan penelitian ini. Untuk alasan ini, penelitian masa depan harus menargetkan responden yang sering berpartisipasi dalam pemilu untuk mengakomodasi temuan yang lebih umum.Kata kunci: Pemilih Perempuan, Keterwakilan, Caleg Perempuan

Abstract

The present study focuses on the languages operating on the written signage that contribute directly to theformation of the linguistic landscape. The study chose Sunan Ampel Tomb in Surabaya, Indonesia, as one ofthe sites that has become a heritage conservation due to the history hidden in the site. This site is a part of the other sites in a series leading to the history of nine saints (Wali Songo) who brought Islam to Indonesia through one of the islands, Java. The study aimed at describing the linguistic landscape of the site to help learn about the languages operating on the signage found in Sunan Ampel Tomb complex and the hidden history leading to multilingual multilingualism in the area. By using a direct observation and interview to gather the data,the study informs that the sites are typically dominated with Indonesian language operating in monolingualsignage. Despite a few in number, the multilingual signage can still be found to depict several languages including English, Arabic, and Indonesian language. The domination of Bahasa Indonesian demonstrates the implementation of policy for using the language as the national language. While English and Arabic are used for the business purpose. The study also discovers the characteristics of the language displaying on the signage from the size of the fonts. In conclusion, linguistic landscape in Sunan Ampel Tomb describes the history of how the saint brought Islam to the society. Arabic artifacts stereotyping Islam existence can hardly be found here, and it becomes a proof the saint taught Islam without trying to change the already existing customs, cultures, and languages as well.

Abstract

ITS adalah perguruan tinggi yang mengadopsi model tes TOEFL. Sebagai upaya mengukur keterampilan berbahasa Inggis mahasiswa, ITS mengembangkan tes dengan nama Test of English as a Foreign Language yang disingkat TEFL dan menjadi salah satu persyaratan bagi peserta yudisium atau tugas akhir. Berdasarkan data inventori di UPT Bahasa dan Budaya, untuk mencapai nilai Tes EFL, mahasiswa menempuh beberapa kali tes. Dari kejadian ini, disimpulkan bahwa mahasiswa mengalami kesulitan untuk mencapai nilai minimal dengan satu kali tes, sehingga tidak jarang terjadi penundaan yudisium. Di dalam Tes EFL terdapat tiga komponen penilaian yaitu Listening Comprehension, Structure and Written Expression, dan Reading Comprehension dan digunakan sebagai variabel respon. Pada penelitian ini ingin diketahui aktifitas mahasiswa yang terkait dengan bahasa inggris yang berhubungan dengan pencapaian nilai Tes EFL.Hasil penelitian menunjukkan ada dua faktor yang memiliki hubungan kuat pencapaian nilai Tes EFL yaitu Faktor Penilaian Tes EFL dan Riwayat Mengikuti Tes EFL dan ternyata Aktifitas Belajar Bahasa Inggris memiliki hubungan yang lemah pada pencapaian nilai Tes EFL mahasiswa.

Abstract

To help universities non-academic staffs maintain their productivity amid the COVID 19 outbreak, MOOC ENAS was developed. To guarantee the eligibility of the program, through this research, ADDIE model was employed to evaluate the course plan. Step 1 and 2 out of the whole 5 steps of ADDIE were used to describe qualitatively about the course design. Using an online questionnaire, the authors received 110 responses and were able to demonstrate that the design had the quality for a good course design. This was led by the results of investigation on the participants’ background correspond to the course plan including the description and objectives. It was figured out that the design was able to accommodate the participants’ language learning demands. The course design facilitated students learning by serving their education background, their workplace origin, and their already existing language learning experience. However, the study was lacking in the generalizability. To serve this, further research is needed by adding quantitative data so that the results of the evaluation could be presented in numbers that were more accurate and elusive. Finally, in terms of design, the MOOC ENAS is quite accommodating to be further continued into development of course content, implementation, and evaluation as assigned in ADDIE Model.

Abstract

Taman Baca Masyarakat dapat dipandang sebagai sarana yang optimal dalam pengembangan kebiasaan membaca dan sekaligus kebiasaan dan kebisaan belajar. Pemanfaatan mutli moda teks yang diambil dari media cetak maupun daring menjadi sumber potensial untuk memajankan anak-anak akan berbagai jenis ragam teks, baik fiksi maupun non fiksi. Teks-teks tersebut dikemas dalam kegiatan yang beragam sehingga mendorong kognitif, afektif sekaligus prikomotoris peserta pengabdian. Kegiatan membaca nyaring, membuat mading tematik, dan menulis cerita telah mampu mendorong 100 anak TBM peserta program untuk menghasilkan kumpulan cerita anak. Kegiatan dan luaran yang dicapai dari kegiatan pengabdian ini memberikan bukti empiris terkait fisibilitas TBM yang dioptimasi fungsinya sebagai pusat pengembangan literasi dan laboratorium belajar sepanjang hayat.

Abstract

This article attempts to present a profile of two successful English language learners who are found to hold strong learning styles. Learning styles are considered as the factors that not only have great influence but are also embedded to the attempt for selecting the strategies used to attack the perplexing learning problems or tasks. The learning strategies as the factor leads a successful learning should be channeled into other factors that juxtapose with this factor. The present article would present how certain affective and cognitive domains of learning styles have made particular learning strategies become effective. By means of a multi case study, that describes two different phenomena and compares them for reducing the risk of error, the present study tries to give more contribution towards the study on the Good Language Learner that has been so far being the concern of many scholars. Such an investigation would help other learners of the same traits or endowment to adopt as well as adapt the strategy. Besides, this can be used as a model for strategy training that is hosted to help less fortunate learners who study English.

Abstract

In view of the need of multiculturalism and Indonesian cultures introduction to BIPA learners, the teaching and learning Indonesian cultures develop into essential part beyond the learning of Bahasa Indonesia itself. Countless studies mentioned that learning a foreign language is more meaningful if there is an involvement of the teaching of its culture. In addition to Bahasa Indonesia materials, the materials and references provided for BIPA learners contain rich-cultural Indonesian values, yet – too extensively. In this research, the writers tried to propose a syllabus that supports not only linguistic competence in Bahasa Indonesia but also more local culture values which is close to BIPA learners’ context. The local culture context applied in this research is Surabaya culture, Arek culture. R&D research method was used and the framework of teaching culture by Brooks (1968) was included in this study. The finding of this study provided valuable implications to BIPA learners as well as BIPA instructors with regards to Bahasa Indonesia competences and the introduction of one of local culture values in Indonesia.

Abstract

Makalah ini merupakan konsep solutif bagi permasalahan yang dihadapi oleh masyarakat miskin perkotaan di wilayah Kedungcowek Surabaya Timur. Dengan mendorong terbentuknya Comunity Learning Center (CL) yang didirikan dengan pilar multiliterasi dan ditopang pondasi socioentrepreurship maka konsep ini akan menjadi sarana untuk meningkatkan taraf hidup dan kesejahteraan masyarakat nelayan dan pengusaha kecil di wilayah kelurahan Kedungcowek. Abstract

This study reveals how Virtual Landscape Linguistics (VLL) in Ubud-Bali can describe the community’s attitude when facing the global tourism industry. Data in shop signboards, information boards, and building names were collected using documentation techniques through the Google Street View application (update 2019–2021) along Raya Ubud Street, Bali, Indonesia. The selected data represents the categories of language variation and monolingual-multilingual signs. The findings show that English is used in most commercial signage, both monolingual and multilingual outdoor signs. On the other hand, the local language is seen on monolingual and multilingual outdoor signs in traditional restaurants, information boards, and vernacular building names. Through the display of English signage, tourists worldwide can see that Ubud has provided complete accommodation needs for foreign tourists. In addition, tourists can also see that the use of local languages ​​such as Indonesian and Balinese on commercial signage and vernacular buildings shows the authentic value and culture of the local community as a tourist attraction. This study shows that VLL in the context of tourism has two functions. First, VLL helps travelers plan and organize their vacations better. Second, VLL allows stakeholders to promote their tourist areas virtually without neglecting their natural appearance.

Abstract

Salah satu cara membangun citra positif eks lokalisasi Dolly adalah dengan mempromosikannya sebagai kampung wisata edukasi. Upaya mempromosikan kampung wisata membutuhkan peran dan keterlibatan kelompok pemuda karang taruna. Mereka diharapkan dapat berperan sebagai agen promosi dan pengelola bisnis perjalanan wisata Dolly. Oleh karena itu, pelatihan peningkatan kapasitas dilakukan agar karang taruna memiliki persiapan dalam mengelola bisnis perjalanan wisata. Konsep pelatihan bersifat andragogi, bertujuan memberi gambaran dan pengalaman nyata dalam mengonsep, mengelola, dan memandu kawasan wisata Dolly. Pelatihan dibagi menjadi dua kegiatan yaitu: pertama, kegiatan pelatihan memandu dan mengelola bisnis perjalanan wisata Dolly. Kegiatan kedua berupa praktik perjalanan wisata Dolly. Luaran pengabdian berupa modul pelatihan Mengelola dan Memandu Bisnis Perjalanan Wisata Dolly. Hasil kegiatan pengabdian yaitu (1) peserta mampu mengidentifikasi potensi wisata di Dolly, (2) peserta mampu menyusun konsep perjalanan wisata Dolly, (3) peserta mampu mengelola perjalanan wisata, dan (4) peserta mampu menyusun konsep pengembangan kawasan wisata Dolly. Konsep pengembangan kawasan wisata Dolly berupa kampung tematik “Kampung Bunga dan Toga”, “Kampung Mural Batik”, “Kampung Kostum”, “Kampung Literasi”, dan “Kampung IT” yang rencananya akan ditawarkan kepada pihak swasta agar dapat direalisasikan. Oleh karena itu, pendampingan lanjutan pengembangan, pengelolaan, dan promosi kawasan wisata Dolly masih dibutuhkan hingga tahun berikutnya.
