Abstract

Sukalaksana Village is one of the areas in the Banyuresmi District of Garut Regency, which is known as a red chili producer. Although it has highly economic value, red chili is one of agricultural commodities that have farming risks, both production risk, cost and income. The research objectives are (1) identify the source of farming risk, (2) analyze the level of farm risk (production risk, cost risk, and income risk), and (3) determine the farmer's strategy of overcoming a farm risk. The analysis model uses a descriptive analysis and risk analysis (a coefficient of variation). The results showed that there were opportunities for production, cost, and income risk of conducting red chili farming. Production risk is caused by weather conditions and pests that attack red chili plants. The cost risk is caused by the high costs incurred by farmers in the use of production facilities due to the high price of chemical fertilizers and pesticides. Revenue risk is caused by the quality of production due to pests and diseases, high costs of production facilities, and price fluctuations. The strategy carried out by farmers in dealing with production risks is to maintain the plants well but still use chemicals. The strategy for dealing with costing risk is to borrow money from the dealer or family. But so far the farmers have not made a strategy to deal with income risk because the current risk of income is the accumulation of production risk and chili cost and price risk.

Abstract

Society-owned enterprises (BUMR) Food offer partnership patterns with farmers to overcome the classic problems faced by farmers so far, namely the low capital, access to sources of capital, access to technology, and market penetration. The partnership pattern offered by BUMR Food is in the form of non-collateral loan assistance accompanied by assistance and providing agricultural insurance to farmers. Farmers are required to plant rice using varieties determined by the BUMR Food and sell their grain to BUMR Food at a price determined based on the quality of grain produced by farmers. Farmers' decision to establish a partnership with BUMR Food is greatly influenced by their perception of the partnership pattern. The purpose of this study is to: (1) identify the pattern of partnership of paddy rice farmers with BUMR Food, and (2) analyze the perception of paddy rice farmers to the pattern of partnership with BUMR Food. The research method used was a survey, with a population of all paddy rice farmers who followed the pattern of collaboration with the BUMR Food in Sukabumi Regency. The sampling technique used is Simple Random Sampling. The first research objective was analyzed descriptively, while the second research objective was analyzed using the Spearman Rank correlation test. The results show: (1) The partnership pattern in the form of Agribusiness Operational Cooperation, where the partner company (BUMR Food) provides non-collateral loans, provides technical assistance in cultivation, and acts as an offtaker (receives the results of production), and (2) the perception of farmers lowland rice to the partnership pattern with BUMR Food is generally positive both in terms of relative profitability, suitability and complexity.

Abstract

Several regions of mango producer centers in West Java experienced a significant decline in production in 2016, only Indramayu District experienced an increase in mango production; on the contrary, Kuningan Regency experienced the largest decline in production compared to other regions. The production gap in Indramayu and Kuningan districts is allegedly related to differences in farming behavior. The purpose of this study was to analyze differences in the behavior of farmers in mango farming in Indramayu and Kuningan districts. This research was quantitative research. This research method used survey-explanatory methods. Sampling had been taken by multi-stage random sampling technique. with a total of 130 mango farmers. To analyze differences in farmer's behavior in carrying out mango farming in Indramayu and Kuningan districts, a mann Whitney test and chi square test were used. The results of the study show that there were no differences in farmer behavior in terms of plant care, application of fertilization and use of growth regulators. In terms of controlling plant pest organisms (OPT) there were differences in the behavior of farmers in Indramayu and Kuningan Districts, where most farmers in Indramayu Regency were intensive in preventing and overcoming pest attacks, while some farmers in Kuningan Regency have not been intensive in controlling pest attacks. Abstract
