Abstract

The rind of rambutan fruit (Nephelium lappaceum L.) has been reported to have a very strong antioxidant activity with IC50 value of 7.74 μg / mL. The fruit contains  avonoids and phenolic . This compounds are potentially as hypolipidemic effect. This study aims to determine the hypolipidemic effect of 96% of ethanolic extract of rind of rambutan fruit in wistar strain male rats. This research method is the pre- and post-control group design. 25 rats were divided into 5 groups. Group I (negative control) were treated by a solution of 0.5% CMC-Na, group II (positive control) were treatedby cholestyramine 0.8 kg / kg, whereas group III, IV and V treated by 96% of ethanolic extract of rind of rambutan with a dose of 125 , 250, and 500 mg / kg respectively. hiperkolesterlemia induction is done by giving a high cholesterol diet and feed for 4 weeks. High-cholesterol diet consists of cooking oil, quail egg yolk, water, PTU and feed high cholesterol consisting of margarine and standard feed. Treatment of mice was conducted for 2 weeks. The results showed that the 96% of ethanolic extract of rind of rambutan fruit with a dose of 125, 250, and 500 mg / kgbw have antihyperkolesterol activity 21.39 ± 6.61%, 31.15 ± 18.15%, and 60.75 ± 8, 26%.Keywords: Antihypercholestrol, Nephelium Lappaceum L., High-cholesterol diet

Abstract

In-flammation is the body’s reaction to foreign substances that enter the body with signs of redness, heat, swelling, pain, and impaired organ functions. Curcuma rhizome including medicinal plants that have properties relieve the pain and inflammation of the skin. The purpose of this research was to examine the anti-iflammation effect of Curcuma zedoaria (Berg) Roscoe Rhizome infusion on carrageenan induced paw edema in rats. This research used experimental method with completely randomized design. Twenty five healthy Wistar male rats, 2-3 months old and 150-250 g divided into five groups and each group consist of 5 rats. Rats in group I that served as negative control were given 2.5 mL/200gbw of aquadest. Rats in group II as positive control were given sodium diclofenac with dose of 6.75 mg/kgbw. Group III, IV, and V were given Curcuma zedoaria (Berg) Roscoe Rhizome infusion with dose of 0.625, 1.250 and 2.500 g/kgbw, respectively. Treatments were given per oral 1 hour before injection of 0.1 ml carrageenan 1% subplantar. Rat paw edema volume was measured before and after carrageenan injection. The measurement was done every 0.5 hour for 6 hours observation. Area Under the Curve (AUC) that is calculated from paw edema volume data, was use to calculate percentage of anti-inflammatory effect. Data were analyzed with one way Anova and Least Signifi cant Difference with confi dence level 95%. Infusion of Curcuma zedoaria Rhizome with doses of 0,625, 1,250, and 2,500 g/kgbw had anti-inflammatory effect in Wistar male rats which were induced by Carrageenan 1%. Percentage of anti-inflammation effect (44,16+5,11)%, (48,70+7,05)%, (59,09+9,61)% respectively and the effects were equivalent with positive control.Key words: Anti-inflammation, Curcuma zedoaria (Berg) Roscoe, infusion, Carrageenan.

Abstract

Pegagan (Centella asiatica L. Urban) contain saponin asiaticoside, which is a structural protein. The compound plays a role in the wound healing process by the formation of collagen. This research was conducted to determine the effect of wound healing of burns on New Zealand male rabbits using gel extract of Pegagan (Centella asiatica L. Urban) herbs using hydroxypropyl methylcellulose (HPMC) as gelling agent. This research was an experimental with the same subject design, using ve male New Zealand rabbits to test the wound healing of burns, and the backs of each rabbit were divided into six treatment i.e : positive control (Bioplasenton), negative control (no treatment), control HPMC base (no extract), and three formula with herbal extracts of Centella asiatica with a concentration of gelling agent HPMC 8%, 9%, and 10% respectively. Gel was applied to the back of rabbits with the use ± 0.3 grams once daily until the wound diameter equal to zero or until healed. The data was analyzed by one way anava with a 95% confidence level. The result showed that of the gelling agent HPMC concentration effect on the increased the viscosity, and decreased the spreadability and the burn wound healing time is a longer. Gel herb pegagan extract (Centella asiatica L. Urban) with a gelling agent HPMC concentration of 8% (17,60±1,14 days) most effectively heal burns compared to the concentration of 9% (19,40 ±1,14 days) and concentration 10% (20,40±1,14 days). Keywords: Centella asiatica L. Urban, gel, hydroxypropyl methylcellulose, burns.

Abstract

The used of plants efficacious as medicines in the prevention of health problems had been known for along time the Indonesian people. The utilization of plants as medicine was based on the experience passeddown from generation to generation. The used of traditional medicines relatively favored by the people, the underlying factor are traditional medicines have less side effects than the modern medicines if usedappropriately. Curcuma (Curcuma xanthorrhiza Roxb.) used as refreshment which had stimulant effect..Stimulant was a substance that can stimulated the central nervous system which can speed up the processesin the body and minimize fatigue. Need to research the effects of stimulant infusion of curcuma rhizome. The research was conducted experimental methods pre-test and post-test. Twenty-five male mice Swissstrain used as experimental animals, which are divided into five groups, positive control (caffeine 100mg /kg BW), negative control (distilled water 0,5ml /20g BW), infusion of curcuma dose I (2.5 g/ kg BW), doseII (5g / kg BW), and dose III (10g / kg BW) respectively. Animal experiments tested using methods NatatoryExhaustion and treated with oral route. The effects of stimulant tired was calculated the time differencebefore and after treatment. The data obtained were analyzed non-parametric statistical tests, it’s KruskalWallis and Mann Whitney with a 95% confidence level. Infuse curcuma rhizome had the stimulant effect, the effect was obtained by increased the dose. At doses of 2.5 g / kg BW, 5g / kg BW, and 10 g / kg BW wasprovide a stimulant effect respectively by 2.82 minutes, 3.71 minutes and 4.94 minutes. Stimulant effect doseII and III had a greater effect than the positive control (p<0,05), the dose I had similar effect compare withcontrol positive (p>0,05).

Abstract

Gentamicin can induce damage to the kidney because of the accumulation of epithelial cells in the cortex. This accumulation can cause an increase in Reactive Oxygen Species (ROS), which in turn can trigger an increase in free radicals which causes a decrease in kidney function, which can be seen with Blood Urea Nitrogen (BUN) and sCr (serum creatinine) parameters. Garlic (Allium sativum L.) contains several bioactive compounds, including alliin, allisin, ajoene, and allil cysteine. The content of allisin has activity as an antioxidant. This study used a nephrotoxic mouse modelling method with 100 mg/kgBW of gentamicin induction intraperitoneally, then BUN and sCr levels were checked 24 hours after the 10th day induction. This study aimed to determine the effect of garlic ethanol extract in preventing the decline of renal function in rats induced by gentamicin with a parameter of BUN and sCr. The animal test were divided into 5 treatment groups, normal control group, negative controls, and three treatment groups at a dose of 50, 120, and 300 mg/kgBW for 10 days of concurrent treatment between extracts with gentamicin. The results of the study showed that garlic ethanol extract with a dose of  50, 120, 300 mg/kgBW was able to prevent a decrease  in kidney function due to the administration of gentamicin significantly when compared with negative controls (p 0,05).
