Abstract

Transesterification reaction is a reaction between oils (triglycerides) with alcohol to produce fatty acid alkyl esters and glycerol as a byproduct. Biodiesel is obtained by reacting vegetable oils or fats with methanol. So that the resulting product is known as the methyl ester. Due to, production of petroleum fuels is limited, it is necessary to develop a vegetable oil to produce biodiesel. One of the vegetable oil that can be used is derived from CPO (Crude Palm Oil) by using a column centrifugal contactor. In this study, biodiesel obtained by transesterification of CPO (Crude Palm Oil), using KOH catalyst. The process is conducted by variation of temperature (50ºC., 60°C, and 70ºC), and reaction time (0.5, 1 and 1.5 hours), with a fixed variable stirring speed of 300 rpm and a molar ratio of methanol / oil 6: 1, the concentration of catalyst KOH 1%wt. Based on the test results showed that the transesterification reaction time and temperature affected by the speed of reaction formation of biodiesel. The good operating conditions obtained in this study at temperature of 60°C, and the reaction time of 1.5 hours which resulted in the conversion reaction of 39,47%. The percentage of ester product area is 6.37% and 28,894% glycerol. Methyl ester product was obtained in the form of palmitate, dimethyl azelate, methyl myristate, methyl laurate, and methyl nonanoat. Characteristics of biodiesel produced in this study meets to the Indonesian Standards of biodiesel, with the value of the kinematic viscosity (40°C) 3.91 to 4.15 cSt, Density (40ºC) = 872.95 to 886.44kg/m3, and a flash point at 136ºC (min. 100ºC).Keywords: Crude Palm Oil, transesterification, biodiesel, column centrifugal contactor

Abstract

Palm Oil Mill Effluent treatment produces sludge as byproduct. Without being processed, the sludge will cause damage to environment and industry. The aim of this research is to convert the sludge, combined with boiler ash and palm oil fiber and litter of dry leaves into compost by using EM-4 as the activator. The instrument needed is a simple composter with height 40 cm and diameter 30 cm. The variations of the boiler ash dosage are 1 kg, 1,5 kg and 2 kg and the variations of composting time is 21 days in order to analyze the compost quality produced. The research showed that compost with 1 kg boiler ash dosage processed for 21 days resulted to a C/N ratio that meets SNI’s requirement 19-7030-2004 C/N ratio=11,72. The conversion of palm’s oil sludge into compost can be used as an alternative in utilization waste into valuable product.Keywords: boiler ash, EM-4 activator, compost, fiber, palm’s sludge

Abstract

Design of solid waste management in an area needs some basic information comprising solid waste generation data, its composition and characterictics. This research aimed to analyzed the generation, composition and characteristic of domestic waste in Tampan. Research methodology refered to SNI 19-3964-1994 based on income levels. Results showed the average domestic solid waste generation in Tampan was 1.45 litre/person/day or 0.19 kg/person/day. Domestic waste composition Tampan was dominated by organic waste about 93,60%, composed by mostly 50 % food waste, and anorganik waste about 6,40%, composed by mostly 3,77 % mirror waste. For physical characteristic, domestic waste density was 0.13 kg/litre with compaction factor of 0,97. Chemical characteristic including water content was 31,37 %, volatile content was 55,62 % and ash content was 11,35 %.Keywords: Domestic Waste, Solid Waste Generation, Waste Composition, Waste Characteristic

Abstract

Oil palm empty fruit bunches (OPEFB) is a solid waste that significantly produced by palm oil mills. The main content of OPEFB is lignocellulose. High lignin in OPEFB cause the lenghth time of OPEFB decompositition. The decomposition process can be accelerated by the addition of decomposers, such as acticomp. Therefore, this study aimed to analyze the degradation of structure morphology OPEFB also composting time and C/N ratio by the addition of acticomp. This research method using three variations of the ratio addition acticomp to 100 kg OPEFB composted, 0.5 kg acticomp, 1 kg acticomp and 1.5 kg acticomp. The comsposting process using windrow composting system. The results were obtained the damage of OPEFB morphological structure and the decreasing ratio of C/N whereas 1.5 kg acticomp/100 kg as the biggest within 30 days. C/N ratio reached 19.67, in accordance with the regulation of the quality standards 28/Permentan/SR.130/5/2009.Keywords: acticomp, OPEFB, degradation of OPEFB, morphological of OPEFB, windrow composting

Abstract

Metal Cr (VI) is a metal found in high concentrations of liquid waste electroplating, so it is toxic can cause acute and chronic poisoning. Using fungi biomass become an alternative to solving environment pollution problems caused by heavy metals. The research purposed to learn the ability of C. comatus fungi biosorbent to set aside the metal Cr (VI) through the process of biosorbent characterization with variations of activator NaOH 0,3; 0,5 and 0,7 N with activation time 15 minutes. Result of the research showed characterization phase of biosorbent obtained the best conditions in treatment activator NaOH 0,3 N with efisiensi removal 47,81 %.Keywords : C. comatus fungi, concentration activation, metal Cr (VI), electroplating liquid waste.

Abstract

The progress of plantation area in Indonesia to increase significantly. Along with the increasing area of oil palm plantations, the production of palm oil mills also increase. The production of palm oil mill produced wastewater with high content of organic material. If it discharged into the water, it will potentially to reduced water quality and pollute the environment. Wastewater treatment can be anaerobically by using hybrid anaerobic bioreactor. This research purposed to test the stability and performance of hybrid anaerobic bioreactor two stage with shock loading variable measured the content of COD (chemical oxygen demand), pH, temperature and production of biogas. The operation of shock loading is by providing the rate loading increase suddenly of 50% with the flow rate is 7.5 L/day, increase of 100% with the flow rate is 10 L /day and increase of 150% with the flow rate is 12.5 L/day for 6 hours, then returned to flow rate base of first bioreactor with the flow rate is 5 L/day. The results of testing the stability of the bioreactor in anticipation the fluctuations of wastewater flow with shock loading by 50%, 100% and 150% showed that the recovery period of hybrid anaerobic bioreactor two stage relatively quickly with time span is 5 to 7 days. The highest COD reduction is obtained after loading increase 150% at flow rate 12.5 L/day, COD value is 4.500 mg/L with COD removal efficiency is 92.2%. Therefore, the flow rate increase suddenly (shock loading) wasn’t effect the performance of hybrid anaerobic bioreactor two stage so the process of wastewater treatment can take place properly.Keywords: Anaerobic , COD, Palm Oil Mill Wastewater, Shock Loading, Two Stage Anaerobic Bioreactor Hybrid.

Abstract

Sampling is carried out based on SNI 19-3964-1994. The results showed that the number of solid waste generated in units of weight in the District of Tenayan Raya was 0,431 kg/person/day and in the unit volume was 3,376 l/person/day. Waste generation in Bukit Raya Sub-district is in weight units of 0.483 kg /person/ day and in volume units of 3,376 l/person/day. The composition of domestic waste in Development Region IV is dominated by 54.5% food waste, 11.2% foliage, 6.9% plastic, 5.5% paper, 5.7% textile, 4.2% rubber, 3.4% glass and 3.3% metal.  Keywords: waste generation, composition of waste

Abstract

Spent Mushroom Substrate (SMS) or remaining mushroom media is agro-residue and the remaining mesillium fungus after harvesting mushroom. SMS has several types of polymers such as lignin, cellulose and hemiselulose degraded by mycelium due to the fungal growth process which is then converted into simpler molecules to use as biosorbent that can be used to set aside Cu metals. Abstract

This study aims to determine the data generation, composition, physical and chemical characteristics of domestic waste and the potential for recycling in the Development Area I of Pekanbaru City based on the level of income levels of the High Income, Medium Income and Low Income. The data generated can be used for planning and development for waste management systems. Determination of waste generation is done based on SNI 19-3964-1994 method. The results showed that Sukajadi District's solid waste generation was in the weight unit of 0.407 kg / o / day and a volume unit of 2.86 l / o / day, Senapelan District in the weight unit of 0.383 kg / o / day and a volume unit of 2.64 l / o / day, Pekanbaru City District in units of weight 0.396 kg / o / day and volume units 2.61 l / o / h, Lima Puluh District in weight units 0.373 kg / o / day and volume units 2.13 l / o / day and Sail District in weight units 0.383 kg / o / day and volume unit 2.53 l / o / day. Waste composition in Pekanbaru City Development Area I is dominated by organic waste by 48%. Physical characteristics of brupa gravity specific gravity is 0.09 kg / l and compaction factor is 1.07 l / day. Chemical characteristics for water content are 35.80%, volatile content is 58.73%, ash content is 1.64% and fixed carbon is 3.83%. potential for waste recycling Domestic Development Region I Pekanbaru City is divided into two types of recycling, namely composting final product at 462.738 kg / day and Recyclable at 131.08 kg / day. Abstract

Copper (Cu) is a heavy metal that is toxic and can accumulated in the body. The limits of the highest concentration of this element in contamined waters range from 1-5 mg/l. Adsorption is a simple method that has proven to be quite enough effective to treating liquid waste. Isotherms of adsorption shows that the variations of adsorben and adsorbate that occur in solution at constant temperatures. The adsorption approach model in this study is isothermic adsorption. The determination of Cu2+ metal adsorption isotherms by the SBE-SMS adsorben composite is determined using the linear regression method and from the regression equation will be obtained the R2 value. The relation coefficient value from the Langmuir isother equation is obtained the value of R2 = 0.4065 and in the Freundlich isother equation obtained the value of R2 = 0.6999. From the results of Cu2+ metal adsorption research using adsorben composite spent bleachin earth (SBE) – spent mushroom substrate (SMS) it is known that isotherms adsorption that occurs following isotherm Freudlich model.Key words: Composite, Copper (Cu), Isotherm Adsorption, Spent Bleaching Earth (SBE), Spent Mushroom Substrate (SMS)
