Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine the effectiveness of some antiacne facial cleanser products against bacteria that cause acne Propionibacterium acnes, which conducted experimentally using 6 product against of antiacne facial cleanser bacteria cause Propionibacterium acnes with three replication. The parameters observed were the inhibitory zone diameters. The results showed that of some antiacne facial cleanser products that are most effective in inhibiting the growth of acne-causing bacteria Propionibacterium acnes is the product CCA code, with a 35 mm inhibit zone, because CCA products were contain 6 combinations of natural ingredients from Hamamelis virginia, Melaleuca alternifolia, Cinnamomum zeylanicum, Cedrus atlantica, Portulaca oleracea and olive oil All antiacne products are shown to have effectiveness against the bacteria Propionibacterium acnes.

Abstract

Morbiditas and mortalitas caused by Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) or Acquired Deficiency Syndrome (AIDS) trend increase and become an important problem peoples health in the world. Through out the 80% of children AIDS victim has a prenatal infection from their mother. The aim of this study is to know the relationship between CD4 value and HIV stadium at pregnant mother infected by HIV/AIDS. A descriptive method was applied in this experiment. The sample obtained, from 22 pregnant mothers victims diagnosed of HIV/AIDS infection in Posyansus RSUP. H. Adam Malik Medan since January 2012 until June 2013. Data obtained by measuring CD4 value before and after ARV theraphy, then statistically  analyzed. The result out showed that 12 of samples (55%) have low CD4 value before ARV theraphy below 200 m3. Than, CD4 value were increased after ARV theraphy not affected by the stadium status. CD4 value before and after ARV theraphy has a negative linear corellation with HIV stadium (r = -0,743) it can be conclude that increased of CD4 value give an indirect contribution to HIV stadium victims.

Abstract

This study aims to identify the types of fungi that infect skin toddler patients at the General Hospital Haji Adam Malik Medan. The study was conducted by descriptive method using examination observation fungi on skin scrapingssuffering from infection with a total of 30 samples. Examination was performed using 10% KOH and fungal culture media Sabouraud Dextrose Agar  and incubated at room temperature (25-30oC). Based on the results of this study concluded that the type of fungus that infects the skin of patients under five years old are Trichophytonrubrum, Microsporummgypseum, Epidermiophytonfloccosum, Candida albicans and Candida tropicalis.

Abstract

Tuberculosis (TB) is a respiratory disease that received special attention in the community. According to WHO more than 2 million people, one third of the total population in the world is infected by tuberculosis. Tuberculosis patients with malnutrition status have lower haemoglobin levels compared to patients with good nutritional status. The purpose of this reseach is to determine the relationship of body mass index (BMI) to the haemoglobin of patients pulmonary tuberculosis at the General Hospital Sultan Sulaiman Serdang Bedagai. This study was conducted descriptive of examination BMI and levels of haemoglobin in patients with pulmonary tuberculosis at the General Hospital Sultan Sulaiman Serdang Bedagai North Sumatra Province is to create the relationship between baseline BMI and BMI end after the OAT, as well as haemoglobin beginning and haemoglobin end after the OAT. The results showed that there was a weak correlation between baseline BMI of the initial haemoglobin levels with a value of r = 0.20. While the relationship between BMI end of the final haemoglobin levels after administration of OAT for 2 months there was a strong relationship r = 0.83.

Abstract

This reseach aims to determine the composition of secondary metabolites of kirinyuh leaf extract (Euphatorium ordoratum.L) and antimicrobial properties of the extract against Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli. The study was conducted in three phases: the first phase is manufacture kirinyuh leaf extract (Euphatprium odoratum L) through maceration method using N-Hexane solvent and methanol. In stage II, phytochemical screening, namely the identification of secondary metabolites (alkaloids, flavonoids, terpenoids and steroids) to the crude extract of  leaves kirinyuh (Ephatorium odoratum L) in the form of antimicrobial properties of extracts against Staphylococcus aureus and with variations extract concentrations of 0%, 1 %, 5%, 10%, 15%, 20%, and 25% Echerichia coli and incubated at 37°C for 24 hours. The research found that such compounds secondary metbolit alkaloids, flavonoids, steronoid, and saponin, which dominates the secondary metabolites of four that alkaloid. While the screening test of phytochemical N-hexane extracts is not contain metbolit secondary compounds, testing against bacteria possess bioktivitas inhibition at concentrations of 15% with inhibition zone of 1.3 cm on Escherichia coli bacteria and 1.0 cm in bacteria Staphylococcus aureas. This shows kirinyuh leaf extracts have the ability as an anti-microbial.

Abstract

This study was conducted to determine the effect of the shiftwork system on liver dysfunction workers characterized by elevated of liver function enzymes SGOT (Serum Glutamic Oxaloacetic Transaminase) and SGPT (Serum Glutamic Pyruvate Transaminase) in the employees at Inalum Company at Kuala Tanjung. The research was derived from primary and secondary data. Primary data was conducted by a direct examination of SGOT and SGPT enzymes at liver (expressed in Unit units per liter of blood serum (U/L). The secondary data obtained from the Smelter Public Relations. All data obtained were analyzed using paired t-test analysis techniques by comparing SGOT and SGPT enzymes between 324 shift and non-shift workers. Results showed significant differences in SGOT and SGPT among 162 employees with shift work from the average SGOT period I 34.4 U/L rise to 42.0 U/L in period II and the average SGPT at period I was 62.5 U/L to 73.4 U/L in period II. While the average SGOT and SGPT among 162 non-shift employees also increased, but still in normal limit (SGOT <35 U/L and SGPT <45 U/L). Employees with a shift work system experienced an elevated of SGOT and SGPT which resulted impact on liver dysfunction caused by fatigue and no resting time. Whereas non-shift employees experienced an elevated of SGOT and SGPT but have no affect liver dysfunction.

Abstract

Kemajuan suatu usaha tergantung pada mau atau tidaknya mengadopsi suatu teknologi. Jika tidak mengikuti perkembangan teknologi maka akan tertinggal dan jika mengikutinya maka akan maju bersaing. Namun, adakalanya keinginan untuk hijrah mengikuti perkembangan jaman dari tradisional menjadi modern tidak disertai dukungan dari tenaga ahli  sehingga dalam prakteknya pelaku pengusaha mencoba-coba sendiri tanpa perhitungan yang jelas, alhasil konsumen menjadi kelinci percobaannya dari ketidaktahuannya. Seperti pada pengabdian kali ini, pengusaha roti kacang selama 10 tahun berdiri tidak mengalami kemajuan dalam usahanya, berbagai masalah turut mengambil andil dalam mempengaruhi keuntungan penjualan seperti masalah harga bahan baku untuk pembuatan roti kacang yang tidak stabil, kapasitas kemampuan dalam memproduksi roti kacang setiap harinya terbatas, masa kadaluarsa yang terlalu cepat, kemasan yang tidak menarik dan tidak memenuhi syarat untuk memperoleh bantuan modal dari bank karena tidak mempunyai buku laporan keuangan perusahaan. Dari masalah  diatas penulis ingin memberikan solusi  dengan melakukan kegiatan pengabdian kepada masyarakat.Solusi yang ditawarkan adalah memberikan pemahaman tentang bahan pengawet serta pelatihan penggunaan bahan pengawet untuk memperpanjang masa kadaluarsa, melakukan pelatihan dalam penyusunan laporan keuangan dan memberikan design kemasan produk yang menarik. Diharapkan dengan melakukan kegiatan pengabdian kepada masyarakat ini usaha mitra dapat berkembang.

Abstract

Terasi is a culinary concoction made from fermented fish or shrimp. This shrimp paste has a savory taste, but can add flavor to the dish. This study aims to determine the description of bacterial contamination of shrimp paste in traditional markets in the city of Medan. This research was conducted descriptively by describing the types of bacteria found in shrimp paste in the center of Medan's traditional market. Factors observed included the number of colonies and types of bacteria infected with shrimp paste that emerged from 7 samples of shrimp paste made from this shrimp paste, namely Escherichia coli, Peseudomonas aeroginosa, Proteus vulgaris, Shigella disentryvical, and Salmonella parathypi B/C.

Abstract

The purpose of this research was to determine the ability of BAL from cattle intestine (Bos taurus) in inhibiting the growth of Eschericia coli and Shigella sp. Testing of BAL capability in inhibiting growth of Escherichia coli and Shigella sp. using the disc-diffusion method or the Kirby-Bauer method, which was done by measuring the inhibit zone around the paper disc. Data were analyzed descriptively by displaying data in table and picture form. The results obtained 2 isolates of BAL from the cow intestine. All isolates showed positive results when tested for antibacterial against Escherichia coli and Shigella sp. In isolate BAL with code sp1 has inhibition zone against Escherichia coli equal to 7.5 mm and to Shigella sp. of 6.8 mm, whereas in isolate BAL with code sp2 has inhibition zone against Escherichia coli equal to 8.9 mm and to Shigella sp. of 8.0 mm. Based on the results obtained, it can be concluded that isolates of lactic acid bacteria with sp2 code has inhibition zone 8.9 mm in inhibiting Eschericia coli while against bacteria Shigella sp. has a diameter of 8.0 mm.

Abstract

Sunflowers ((Helianthus annuus L) is a plant that has the ability to absorb metals in polluted soil or environment. This study aims to determine the ability of sunflower plants to absorb lead (Pb) in the soil. This research method use a Completely Randomized Design (CRD). Pb metal analysis was carried out by testing the lrvels using the Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometry (AAS) tool in the Chemical Laboratory (LABKES). The results showed that the highest absorption of Pb contamination in P2L2 treatment (2.0 ppm) as much as 5.04 ppm and the lowest absorption of metals in the treatment P1L1 (0.3 ppm) yielded as much as 0.52 ppm Pb metal content. From the results of these studies it can be concluded that sunflower plants can be used as phytoremediation pf Pb metal.
