Abstract

This research is aimed to identify the performance of capture fisheries in Ternate city. Performance of these include the development of number of capture fisheries households /RTP, fishing boats, fishing gear, fishing production, post-harvest handling, fishing areas and fishing seasons. The result showed that the average growth of number of capture fisheries households in Ternate city decreased by 2.67%. Fishing boats structure is still dominated by small-scale fisheries (87.85%). An average of amount fishing gears occurred in purse seine (24.55%/year). The development of average annual production of capture fisheries in ten last years increased by 14.61% to the type of fish caught are dominated by skipjack (Katsuwonus Pelamis). Post-harvest handling is fresh consumption (15.854,87 tonnes). Catching fish was conducted in the Maluku Sea (WPP 716) and season arrests were made throughout the year and peak season in January-April and September-October.

Abstract

The use of cantrang grows up as an alternative fishing replacing trawl. Cantrang has different nomenclature used by fishers all Indonesia regions, however there are any regions using the name of cantrang as camouflage of a trawl. National Standardization Agency issued a standard form of cantrang construction (SNI 01-7236-2006) to standardize the gear of cantrang in Indonesia. The objectives of this research are to examine the cantrang construction, and operation aspects of cantrang fisheries in Brondong Waters, Lamongan, East Java. This research was conducted measuring the construction of cantrang, direct by observation following fishing operation trips and interview to the owner and crew of the vessel. The result showed that construction of cantrang in Brondong has differences on some parts to SNI 01-7236-2006, but these differences did not change the form of cantrang. The use of winch to pull the rope is able to accelerate the process of fishing operation thus was increasing the catch.

Abstract

Estimation fishing season of layang (Decapterus spp) was carried out through data catch of layang from purse seine fishing units landed at PPN Pekalongan. The objectives of the research were to analyze the trend of catch per unit effort of layang (CPUE), to estimate the pattern of fishing season and fishing ground of layang. CPUE analysis was carried out by comparing the catch of fishing effort, the estimated pattern of fishing season was carried out by analysis of time series (moving average), and estimates of the fishing ground by ranking the value of the average monthly trip. During 2004 to 2008, the average CPUE of layang is 13.55 tonnes/trip to the range of 1.37 to 39.60 tons/trip. Fishing season layang is in January, February and May to December, peak season in November and off season in March. Potential fishing ground for catching layang was estimated at Lumu-lumu, South China Sea, Bawean, Matasiri and Karimun-Cirebon.

Abstract

The objective of this study is to determine sustainability status of fisheries captures at Ternate city bases on ecology dimension using RAPFISH approach. RAPFISH (Rapid Appraissal for Fisheries) approach, that is a technique ordination multi-discipline and non-parametric that used to evaluate and determine the fisheries status, in the case of sustainability. This research indicates that in general sustainability index fishery captures in Ternate city exists from criterion 51-75 (fair sustainable status). Fishing gear of hand line has index value highest sustainability (72,58%), whereas index lowest sustainability is fishing gear of tuna long line (54,01%). Simulation Result Monte Carlo indicates that spreading of index plots sustainability it is at distance that not far and each other nearest with position of sustainability status ordination until support determination appropriate of sustainability status ordination analyzed. Sensitivity Analysis shows that attribute migratory range, range collapse, and catch pra-matuary are attribute that very high effect on value of sustainability fisheries captures index at ecology dimension in Ternate City.

Abstract

This research was conducted in Ternate Waters which is located in Fisheries Management Zone or WPP 715 (Maluku Sea, Gulf of Tomini, and Ceram Sea). DKP and LIPI (2001) reported that the level of exploitation on fish resources in this area is just reach to about 41.83%. To assure a sustainable capture fisheries in this management area, a study based on Code of Conduct for Responsible Fisheries (CCRF) criteria is needed so that the fisheries potential resources could be optimally utilized, to contribute a significant role in the local economy and fisher’s prosperity. This study was aimed to (1) identifying fishing units which are supporting the CCRF’s criteria, (2) determining an optimal composition of fishing units to be developed. The research was conducted using survey method. Scoring method and Linear Goal Programming are among the method of analysis applied. The result of analysis shows that most of the fishing units operating in the area are still fulfillling the CCRF criteria. The analysis also shows the most favourable fishing units to be furtherly developed for the area in ranking order, subsequently are : the handline, pole and line, and purse seine. The optimal composition of fishing units to be developed in the research area are : the handline 751 units, pole and line 33 units, and purse seine 86 units.

Abstract

This research was carried out to construct mini flume tank that is reliable and ideal used for fish swimming behavior research through a series testing the flume tank technical performance. The mini flume tank has a maximum water velocity 85 cm/s (1.7 knots), with dimensions of 250 x 135 x 55 cm, and water capacity 155 litres. Based on observation, the field observation is clearly visible due to minimal air bubbles in the water velocity. Observations can be conducted from the two view fields (top and side) that allow observation of swimming endurance and fish tail flick easily. The water velocity is in laminar category at each level of the tested speeds. The rpm of engines is relatively stable for more than 200 minutes. Engine temperature is below 60 oC at frequency of 10 to 40 Hz. At frequency of 50 Hz the temperature reached 60 °C in 25 minutes and stable at 73oC after an hour. Water temperature changes during the test for more than 200 minutes at different speeds which have differences of 0.2 to 1.8 oC. The test result showed that the mini flume tank performance was reliable and ideal used for fish swimming behavior research.

Abstract

Less on developing and contributing fisheries sector on Gross National Product (GNP), especially capture fishing efforts in Indramayu Regency, dominantly because of capital limitation and imprecisely capture fishing sector development. This research is trying to analyze financial feasibility of capture fishing sector and its relationship with financial institutions. The analyzing methods would be referred to Hanley and Spash (1993) there are Net Present Value (NPV), Net Benefit – Cost Ratio (B/C Ratio), Internal Rate of Return (IRR), Return of Investment (ROI), and Payback Period (PP). The results shows that capture fishing with payang, drift gill net (JIH) and state gill net (JIT) are capture fisheries efforts with good financial conditions (NPV Payang = Rp 169.798.012, NPV JIH = Rp 344.738.291, NPV JIT = Rp 454.465.535, and the other five capture fisheries efforts have NPV, B/C Ratio, IRR, ROI and PP appropriate with terms and conditions, then its could be more development and proper to get financial institutions support. Capture fisheries with fishhook and fishing line are not properly to be develop. There are four potential financial institutions which could support the capture fisheries efforts, but for now, only Jabar-Banten Bank and KPL Mina Sumitra which needed its actions. And the kind of credits/payments/ services which could be optimally used from Jabar-Banten Bank are Micro Credits and Peduli Credits, with each reaching Rp 422.400.000 and Rp 105.600.000 each year. KPL Mina Sumitra consist of Investment Credits, Micro Credits and Development Services are reaching Rp 9.280.000.000, Rp 928.000.000 and Rp 464.000.000 each year. There are financial institution which not needed its services because of the credits scale which offered are not suitable, the relations not connected, there are problems in collateral, and trust factor.

Abstract

This paper describe results of the experiment of resistance from four different types of fishing boat hull in Indonesia such as U-bottom, round bottom, round flat bottom and akatsuki. The objectives of the research are to estimate the value of the resistance from different type of fishing boat hull, and (2) to estimate the type of hull which is the highest and lowest resistance. The research was carried out in the flume tank by using the model of fishing boat hull with scale 1 : 40.The four different types of hull were investigate in the water flow. The data of resistance were taken when the fishing boat in stable condition, heaving, pitching and moving to the right and left. The 10 data were taken from each different types of hull. The results of the experiment shows that the akatsuki type is the highest resistance, followed by U-bottom, round flat bottom and round bottom. The percentage of resistance from each type of hull shows that the akatsuki 0,19% higher than U-bottom. While the resistance of U-bottom 8,05% higher than round flat bottom, and the resistance round flat bottom 3,23% higher than round bottom.
