Abstract

Buana Bakti is one of the viallages in Siak Regency which has high potential to be developed for freshwater fish culture. This community service activity in Buana Bakti Village is the answer to the hopes and requests of the community, especially the fish cultivator groups in the village. Activities carried out by providing counseling and training on fish farming techniques with the biofloc system which are currently being developed and proven to increase household income by utilizing limited available house yards. The focus of the activity is on learning and practice of making fish ponds culture with a biofloc system as well as technical fish culture for commercial purposes to meet the needs of fish supply in the area and its surroundings. In addition, it is also hoped that there will be more information exchange and transfer of simple knowledge and technology in an effort to open people's thinking horizons and provide business opportunities that can be done to improve their welfare by utilizing local resources. Activities carried out in collaboration with students participating in the Integrated Real-Work Lecture received a good perception and appreciation from the village community, especially the fish cultivator group, the Village Head Master and also from the Siak Regency Fisheries Extension Officer. It is hoped that the facilities and infrastructure provided in the training would be able empower other groups and communities to open businesses in fish farming using the biofloc system. Based on the calculations carried out, fish farming with the biofloc system can provide benefits with a B/C ratio of 1.7, IRR of 0.6 and ROI of 157%.

Abstract

Catfish (Clarias sp.) is one of the leading fishery commodities in Indonesia. Therefore, many people cultivate catfish, including the members of the Tambak Wedi Catfish Farmers Association (PPL), in Tambak Wedi, Surabaya. Located in the city of Surabaya, the limited water availability encourages catfish aquaculture to be conducted in urban aquaculture. However, pathogen infection became a challenge for PPL Tambak Wedi. The pathogen caused losses for catfish farmers in Wedi Pond. This causes the turnover of farmers to decrease and they have to close the aquaponics pond. One solution that can be done is giving biofloc. Biofloc has 3 main functions, namely improving water quality, as an additional feed ingredient for cultivated organisms and suppressing pathogens. The implementation of this activity consists of three stages, namely: (1) building an experimental pond and sites for catfish farming, (2) the extension and demonstration and (3) the application of biofloc in catfish farming. From this activity, it was found that previously members of the Tambak Wedi Catfish Farmer Association in Surabaya City, East Java, had already applied biofloc but experienced problems so that they were not continued. After this service activity, the cultivators were motivated to re-apply biofloc for their cultivation business.

Abstract

Pedada fruit is a mangrove fruit that lives in brackish waters which grows a lot in coastal areas, especially in Bengkalis Regency, namely Bandar Laksamana District, Sepahat Village. The base of the pedada fruit is wrapped in flower petals, and is non-toxic. Sepahat villagers rarely consume Pedada fruit directly because of its sour taste, so a lot of it is wasted. The fruit contains untapped nutrients. Besides being able to be consumed directly, Pedada Fruit can also be processed into high-value food products such as jam, syrup, and candy because of its high vitamin C content. By seeing this potential, an idea emerged to make the Pedada fruit food processing technology as a high-selling product. The purpose of this community service activity is to provide great added value in terms of the results of food product technology, thereby increasing economic value and income for the Sepahat Village Community, as well as increasing the knowledge of the community. The method used in this activity was counseling on the benefits and processing of Pedada fruit. This activity produces processed pedada fruit products in the form of syrup, jam, and candy as well as increasing the creativity of human resources in Sepahat Village, Bandar Laksamana District, Bengkalis Regency to create a food product home industry.

Abstract

Mangrove forest is one of the coastal ecosystems that has many roles, but is currently experiencing a lot of damage. Efforts to improve conditions have been made through replanting. This activity requires mangrove seeds. The purpose of this community service is to increase the knowledge and skills of the community, especially members of the Laskar Mandiri conservation group in seeding and planting mangrove seeds for the needs of rehabilitating damaged mangrove forests in Kayu Ara Permai Village, Sungai Apit District. The methods used in carrying out this community service activity are lectures, questions and answers, demonstrations and practices about all series of nurseries and planting mangrove seedlings by directly involving all the service teams including UNRI's Kukerta students in 2020. To find out the participants' understanding of the material presented, this was done. evaluation by asking participants to fill out a questionnaire before and after the activity was carried out. The data obtained were analyzed descriptively. The results of this outreach activity indicated that the participants followed seriously listening to the material presented by the extension team from start to finish. The results of the evaluation showed that 75% of participants prior to the counseling knew that the role of mangrove forests had increased to 100%, before extension there were still around 10% of participants who did not know the characteristics of seeds or ripe fruit, which became 100% after counseling. Before the activity, only 80% of the participants knew that it was necessary to choose fruit that was free from pests to be 100%. Before the training there were about 30% of participants who did not know the impact if the seedlings broke their roots during planting, so 95% knew about the impact. Previously, there were still participants who did not know (10%) of the impact of planting during the big waves to become 100 aware. All participants (100%) at the end of the service activity admitted that the service was useful because there were still important things that we did not understand.

Abstract

Population growth in Jambi Province is increasing from year to year. The conversion of land into a housing complex or other function to accommodate the increasing population of the community resulted in every corner of the city in Jambi Province, including Muara Bulian, to find many housing complexes. The lack of remaining pages has made the land not optimally utilized. The alternative for the community in Talang Inuman village, Muara Bulian, is to maximize the remaining land by making a bucket cultivation technique (BUDIKDAMBER) which does not require large areas of land. This activity was carried out in three stages, namely outreach to the community, introducing the technique of cultivating fish in buckets (BUDIKDAMBER) and planting organic vegetables as well as inviting the community in the Talang Inuman Village Muara Bulian to make BUDIKDAMBER as a form of business or technopreneurship. Through Community Service (PPM) activities by the Service Team of the Biology Study Program, Faculty of Science and Technology, Jambi University, the target to be achieved is that partners are able to make maximum use of limited land by raising and growing vegetables using the BUDIKDAMBER technique. This community service activity is expected to produce an outcome in the form of articles in online media about how BUDIKDAMBER techniques. Thus, the organic fish and vegetables produced by the partners are expected to meet daily needs and even become a new source of income for the community in the Talang Inuman village of Muara Bulian.
