Abstract

This study aims to determine the bee species, nest characteristics and identify the stingless bee propolis plant source from Kulisusu District, North Buton Regency. This research uses the purposive sampling method in searching nests, and the data is processed descriptively. Samples of stingless bees were taken from four hives from three sampling locations. The characteristics of the nest observed were the shape of the nest entrance, color and size (length and diameter), and the type of entrance opening. The stingless bees found belonged to the genus Tetragonula and consist of two species, Tetragonula sapiens, and Tetragonula fuscobalteata. The shape of the nest entrance varies (without funnel, short funnel, and cylindrical funnel) with black, brown, or blackish-brown color. The diameter of the nest entrance was between 3 to 5 cm with the type of opening (triangular, irregular, and oval). Nine plants were identified as sources of propolis in each nest, and two of them, Anacardium occidentale (cashews) and Schleichera oleosa (Kesambi), were found in all observed nests.

Abstract

The diversity of small mammals has a vital role as a bioindicator of a managed area in the forest. This research was conducted to determine the small mammals in four types of land cover in the agroforestry management area of KPH Batutegi. Sampling was carried out using traps in the four types of land cover. Species diversity was analyzed by diversity index, evenness, dominance, and abundance. The results of this study indicate that the variety, evenness, and abundance of small mammals are low due to land cover conditions, elevation, and the behavior of small mammals in their habitat. The dominant small mammals are Rattus tiomanicus sabae and Maxomys baeodon because they have a high level of adaptation to various habitats. Twelve small mammals were found in the agroforestry cover, ten individuals in the forested cover, four individuals in the monoculture coffee cover, and two individuals in the private land. The management of the Batutegi KPH shall counsel the community to prevent land clearing, which causes damage to forest sustainability, to maintain the existence of small mammals.

Abstract

The development of eco-tourism positively impacts managers, the surrounding community, and the government. Therefore, appropriate eco-tourism development is needed so that the benefits of eco-tourism can be optimal and have a broad impact. This study aims to analyze the development of eco-tourism in the forest area of Lampung Province. Sampling was carried out intentionally on decision-makers in forest area management within the scope of the Lampung Provincial Forestry Service, including the Head of Service, Head of UPTD KPH, and Administrator Officers, as many as 22 respondents. The data were analyzed descriptively on the eco-tourism development strategy stated in the Domestik Minister Regulation Number 33 of 2009 concerning Guidelines for Ecotourism Development in the region, which includes planning, utilization, and control. The results showed that the development of eco-tourism in forest areas carried out by the Lampung Provincial Government from planning, utilization, and management was not optimal. The Lampung Provincial and Regency Governments need to form a coordination team as a forum for communication and coordination between eco-tourism actors so that the development carried out technically can run ideally. In addition, cooperation with investors also needs to be carried out to overcome budget constraints and build an integrated eco-tourism information and service center.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the socio-economic, cultural conditions, and income levels of communities around the forest on Banda Besar Island. The research results show that the community's economic condition depends on forest products managed through gardening (Agroforestry). Data collected through observations and interviews was then analyzed descriptively, qualitatively, and quantitatively. The research results show that the community's economic condition depends on forest products managed through Agroforestry. The social culture of the people on Banda Besar Island is very open to the outside world; the people do not differentiate between immigrants and natives, and ethnic mixing occurs very quickly. Some cultural traditions of communities around the forest include washing wells, buka puang, kombak, papaito, belang, cakalele, and the nutmeg-picking dance. The income of communities around the forest from managing forests using an agroforestry system can increase community income from three types of commodities, namely nutmeg, cloves, and walnuts, obtaining a total average income for communities around the forest of Rp. 16,082,667,-KK/Year and an average.
