Abstract

The aims in this study to analyze the effectiveness of digital flipbooks as a medium for health promotion for adolescents. This study is a quasi experimental design with a One Group Pre and Post Test Design. The sample of this study was 100 adolescents.  The average age of adolescents was 16 years and the majority of the female sex. Mean rank for knowledge (Mean rank=2.86; p-value=0.24) and attitude (Mean rank=11.8; p-value = 0.009). Digital media flipbook can influence the attitudes of adolescents but does not affect the change of knowledge. Increase exposure to health promotion programs by expanding access to information about preventing risk behaviors in adolescents to maintain attitudes that avoid adolescents risk behavior.

Abstract

This study aims to find out the mediation effect of assessment as learning (AaS) model in a mobile-based module upon students’ higher-order thinking. This study is a Research and Development (R & D) and Experimental research. R&D method consisted of: information gathering, product planning, product development, product validation, preliminary test, limited trial, revision, product implementation, and dissemination. The experimental method was one-group time-series design. Data is gathered by using the online assessment sheets. This study employed 40 students of vocational high school. The interpretation of higher-order thinking improvement is based on the criteria of value gain. In addition to calculating the gain score, this study uses a hypothesis. The hypothesis is tested by comparative two samples technique. The result shows that assessment as learning model in mobile-based module has improved student’s higher order thinking skills. The teacher needs to consider the use of the assessment as learning model on the learning module.

Abstract

This study aims to improve student learning outcomes through the implementation of direct learning models that are supported by learning videos. Class action research refers to Kemmis and McTaggart's designs, which are carried out over two cycles. The subjects of the study were students of class X LVE 7 at VHS Dharma Bahari Surabaya. Data were collected using test and observation instruments. Test and observation data were analyzed descriptively based on standardized study completeness criteria. The results of this study found that student learning outcomes consistently increased from the pre-test scores, the value of the first cycle, to the value of the second cycle. Based on the pre-test score data, it is known that there are 16 or 53% of 30 students who reach the complete category. Learning outcomes are then improved in the first cycle, where there are 19 or 63% who reach the complete category. Meanwhile, in cycle II there were 23 or 77% of students who reached the complete category. This increase occurred consistently so that it was concluded that the use of direct learning models supported by learning videos was very effective for the learning of class X LVE 7 students at VHS Dharma Bahari Surabaya.

Abstract

The digital natives generation (DNG) tends to experience relatively high academic stress if the learning design does not pay attention to its characteristics and culture. This study aims to develop a prototype of a hybrid learning model to minimise such stress amongst prospective accounting teachers. This hybrid learning design combines face to face and online learning using the Design-Based Research (DBR) method with stages of problem analysis when learning, and the development of solutions based on principles and theory. Questionnaires, interviews, FGDs and literature studies were used to collect data which were analysed using quantitative and qualitative descriptive analysis. The study found that the DNG experiences relatively high academic stress in the accounting context, so it is necessary to develop a prototype of a flipped classroom-type hybrid learning model by considering its learning style and academic culture and based on the sociocultural revolution theory. This hybrid learning design remains to be tested in further research for its feasibility and effectiveness in minimising DNG academic stress.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the needs of specialization services for counselor in improving the insights of university selection using the future application of e-kompas. This research is a development research using Borg and Gall development model. This research activity focuses on need analysis activities. This research was conducted in Makassar city by involving counselor and high school student. The developed product is a future android based e-kompas application that begins with an in-depth analysis of service needs. Need analysis is done to counselor in Makassar City. The result of requirement analysis using counselor perception questionnaire about the specialization service for the selection of majors in the college for high school students shows that the counselors generally have difficulties in directing the selection of majors for high school students to continue college. Need analysis shows that counselors have a high desire to use e-kompas instrument based on android application that is practical and useful in directing high school students to choose majors in universities that match the talents, interests and potential of high school students.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the implementation of discovery learning in improving scientific and cognitive attitudes of students. This type of research is a classroom action research conducted in class X Is7. Each cycle consists of four stages, namely planning, implementing, observing, and reflecting. The instruments in this study were observation sheets, scientific attitude questionnaires and cognitive tests. The results showed: 1) the scientific attitude of the first cycle students showed an average value of 3.9 in either category. Cycle II scientific attitudes of students showed an average value of 4.4 in either category. 2) the average cognitive value in the first cycle with a value of 70.18 in the sufficient category and an increase in the second cycle with a value of 89.23 in the very high category. This improvement illustrates that students have an effort in mastering subject matter. Discovery learning has a positive impact in improving students 'scientific and cognitive attitudes which are marked by an increase in students' learning completeness in each cycle.

Abstract

This study aims to develop and obtain eligible online learning media by using moodle for general chemistry subjects by using moodle. In this study, flash animation and simulation were integrated as online media in moodle to attract students’ motivation. The topic in this moodle was a colloidal solution. The method of this study was the research and development method by using ADDIE model. Online learning media was validated by media and chemistry material experts, then the valid media presented to the 24 chemistry education students in Universitas Islam Riau to acquire responses toward online learning media. The results showed that online learning media is eligible and can be used as online learning media in which the average number of expert assessment reached higher than 80% with valid criteria. In addition, students’ responses toward online learning media by using moodle is positive in all aspects (interesting design; color, picture, and video preference; creativity and innovation; communication) with the average number of percentage more than 84% (good criteria). Overall, based on the results of online learning media by using moodle for general chemistry subject can be used as learning media to give students experience in online learning

Abstract

The aim of this study is to create a deeper analysis of the individual backgrounds of higher education educators who are involved in research on Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) in a state university in the Philippines.  To meet this objective, the study used a quantitative research design utilizing descriptive analytical tools. The participants were 104 teachers from the five campuses of the university that offers STEM undergraduate programs. Essentially, the study concludes that from the data gathered, the university has a gender-neutral participation in terms of doing research. The profile further creates an image that doing research in the university is not prejudicial to teachers with lower academic ranks. Meanwhile, the STEM educators have started doing research after some years of teaching and on average, teachers spend half of their academic experience in doing research. On another note, almost all of the respondents had more teaching loads than doing research and had less than four years of research experience on average. Based on these findings, for a university aiming to build a strong research culture, it is recommended to apportion more work time for conducting research in addition to teaching and strengthen the university research support to the faculty members by providing them opportunities to participate in research conferences, publish research outputs, and conduct research in the university.
