Abstract

The COVID-19 pandemic has become a global health disaster since March 2020 and has had a significant impact on education. The education system forced to change from a face-to-face learning model to a virtual one to reduce the spread of COVID-19. These extraordinary conditions that lasted no less than one year give various responses from both teachers and learners perspectives. This study examines secondary school teachers and learners perspectives regarding education in the future post, Covid-19 pandemic. This paper used the descriptive method by qualitative approach. Furthermore, this study was conducted by distributing online questionnaires from 5 provinces in Indonesia, involving 40 teachers and 28 learners. The results of this study indicate that (1) e-learning has not fully accommodated some educational values that can be transmitted through classical learning process only, (2) direct interaction are the most lost value during e-learning, (3) the sustainability of e-learning depends on the readiness of resources and infrastructure, and (4) blended learning is the suitable learning model for future education. From the result of these studies, identifying the suitable blended learning model for future education sustainability in every level of education is essential to be further studies as the stakeholder's reference in implementation learning models.

Abstract

Critical thinking is one of the main skills that students must mastered in order to respond the challenges of globalization and the demands of skilled labor in this disruption era. Various learning models, methods and strategies are developed to meet these objectives. One of the way is the implementation of teaching materials in the form of Independent Learning Activity Unit (UKBM) in learning to foster students' critical thinking skills. The focus of this study is to describe students' responses to the implementation of UKBM in social science programs based on discovery learning to foster students' critical thinking skills. This study used an explanatory mix method research design with a percentage technique. Data were collected through questionnaires, observations and interviews. Data analysis was carried out in four stages; collection, reduction, presentation and drawing conclusions. This study found several things: 1) UKBM in social science programs are effectively foster critical thinking skills; 2) the most prominent assessment is the aspect of student interest in an attractive UKBM design; 3) the assessment is less prominent in the aspect of discovery learning approach in learning because it requires a long time and seriousness of teachers and students. Abstract

Knowledge and cognitive development of individuals come from socio-cultural sources that are around themselves. This article is intended to examine the use of local character values in the development of social studies teaching materials in schools. The method used is the 4-D model Thiagarajan, which has a soft, (1) Determine, (2) Design, (3) Develop, and (4) Disseminate. From the research process, a significant difference is presented between learning before using character values and after using local characters. This is discussed by the difference in the pre-test and post-test values after there is a use of character values in the social studies learning process, the t-count value indicates the value is higher than the t-table value, 1.7> 1.685 for 5%. The n-gain pre-test and post-test values were 0.58 in the medium category. These values indicate the value of local characters has a significant increase in improving student learning outcomes. From the results of this test, it is recommended for experimental research with explanatory designs to illustrate the consistency of local characters in the knowledge of students on the subject of a nationalism insight.DOI: 10.17977/um022v5i12020p019

Abstract

Pendidikan di Indonesia ikut terdampak adanya pandemi covid-19 ini, namun dibalik semua itu terdapat hikmah dan pelajaran yang dapat diambil. Adanya kebijakan pemerintah untuk melakukan pembelajaran jarak jauh melalui online, maka dapat memberikan manfaat yaitu meningkatkan kesadaran untuk menguasai kemajuan teknologi saat ini dan mengatasi permasalahan proses pendidikan di Indonesia. Sistem pendidikan online pun tidak mudah. Di samping disiplin pribadi untuk belajar secara mandiri, ada fasilitas dan sumber daya yang mesti disediakan. Di Surabaya sendiri ada kebijakan terkait guru harus bisa menulis karya ilmiah, salah satu karya ilmiah yang dimaksukan selain PTK dan jurnal bisa juga membuat Best Practice. Dari pelaksanaan pengabdian yang dilakukan berhasil dalam meningkatkan pengetahuan peserta tentang Best practice. Sebanyak 76% peserta telah menguasai materi pengetahuan Best practice dalam penulisan ilmiah pada katagori sangat baik.

Abstract

Single mothers face problems not only because of their own status so they have to struggle hard to meet their needs, but also because of patriarchal social construction that presents many challenges to women. This qualitative research is aimed at revealing: the form of glass-ceiling for single mother and their   strategies taken to deal with that. This research was conducted in Sidoarjo on five single mothers. Data were collected using in-depth interviews. The theory used is symbolic interaction because it allows researchers to identify research subjects. The results of this study reveal that the glass-ceiling faced by women are domestic responsibilities, sosial control, and underestimation of women. Strategies for dealing with it are sharing work and ignorant of negative responses. The response to the glass-ceiling depends very much on the way of thinking (mind) of women in seeing themselves. When women put themselves away as objects (me) that are powerless against the values that apply, then the choice of action to face the challenges of their lives (glass-ceiling) tends to be compromising and accommodating, whereas if the means adopted are based more on how to see themselves as subjects (I), then the method adopted tends to be uncompromising.

Abstract

From the research process, there are significant differences between learning before using local character values and after using local characters. This is indicated by the difference in the value of the pre-test and post-test, after the treatment of the use of local character values in the IPS teaching and learning process the value of t_count shows greater than the t_table value of 1.7> 1.685 for 5%. The n-gain value of the pre-test and post-test was 0.58 in the medium category. This value shows the value of local character has a significant effectiveness in improving students national insight.

Abstract

Contextual Learning Teaching and Learning as a learning concept that helps teachers link the material taught with real-world situations of students so that the knowledge possessed will be applied in the surrounding environment. The purpose of this study was to determine the planning, implementation and evaluation of learning Contextual Teaching and Learning social studies subjects to increase student motivation and learning achievement. The method used in this research is qualitative with qualitative descriptive research. The results showed that: the application of the Contextual Teaching and Learning learning model made students more active because the material taught was connected directly to the daily lives of students so students could more easily understand the material applied. Students are enthusiastic about the questions given by the teacher with different answers based on experience. Improved learning achievement because students understand not memorize.

Abstract

This study aims to explore the representation of multicultural values contained in the school activities This study uses the perspective of James A. Banks multicultural education to identify multicultural values, while Peter L. Berger's theory of Social Construction to focus on how multicultural values are represented through school activities as an effort to nurture diversity.  The analysis in this study used the case study research method of Robert K. Yin. The results of this (1) representation of multiculual values in St. Albertus Catholic High School Malang, among others: tolerance, mutual respect and coexistence. (2) The multicultural values shall be represented through school activities shaded by the student and Pastoral Care departments as well as religious and ethical learning. Knowledge of multicultural values and the implementation of school activities based on the Carmel Spirituality Principle can practically be used as a school effort to implement multicultural policies in order to care for the bestiality at St Albertus Catholic High School Malang

Abstract

Changes in learning patterns from face-to-face to technology-based (online) cause problems, one of which is felt by parents. During the Covid-19 pandemic, parents are required to continue to carry out student character building during online learning and complete the family economy. In line with the problems that occur, the purpose of this study is to provide strategies in solving problems related to the formation of student character during online learning. This research design uses a qualitative approach with a case study method. The research was conducted on parents of UPT SMPN 6 Gresik students. The data were collected through observation and in-depth interviews and the data were analyzed using the Socialization theory of Peter L. Berger and Thomas Luckman. The results of the study indicate that the strategy referred to in this study is a series of efforts made by parents to solve problems that occur in the formation of students' character during online learning. The strategy in question includes two ways, namely external and internal. Externally, parents are expected to optimize social capital in the school environment such as teachers, principals, school residents, and the community in solving any problems including the formation of student character during online learning. Internally, parents must also be willing to be actively involved during the learning evaluation process and social control during online learning. It is important to provide reports on student progress when studying from home to teachers at school. Keywords: Parents Strategy, Character Building, Online Learning, Covid-19

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan konstruksi remaja bertato dalam membangun identitas diri serta memaparkan upaya-upaya remaja bertato dalam menghilangkan stigma negatif masyarakat. Penelitian ini penting mengingat remaja bertato dianggap membawa dampak buruk bagi kemajuan desa. Tapi faktanya, kumpulan remaja bertato memiliki kegiatan produktif yang positif dan bermanfaat bagi kehidupan masyarakat Desa Lawangan Agung. Subjek penelitian adalah kumpulan remaja yang memiliki tato (Ketua Karang Taruna, bendahara, dan anggota). Teknik pengumpulan data menggunakan observasi partisipasi pasif, wawancara mendalam dan dokumentasi. Data yang terkumpul dianalisis mengacu pendapat Miles dan Huberman (1994) melalui pengumpulan data, reduksi data, penyajian data dan penarikan kesimpulan dengan mengaitkan  perspektif Teori Konstruksi Sosial Berger and Luckmann. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan terdapat dua konstruksi yakni, 1) Faktor internal, muncul tiga cara a) membangun attitude yang baik, b) membangun keberanian dan rasa tanggung jawab yang tinggi, c) membangun keterampilan untuk dapat bersosialisasi. 2) Faktor eksternal, muncul tiga cara a) membangun akhlak melalui keluarga, b) menggunakan gaya berpakaian dan style rambut yang berbeda, c) memotivasi diri melalui tokoh idola. Upaya lain remaja bertato adalah mengadakan kegiatan positif dari segi a) aspek sosial: Berpastisipasi dalam kegiatan rutin desa, b) aspek ekonomi: Memberdayakan potensi diri dan potensi alam c) aspek keagamaan: Memperbaiki diri dengan beramal saleh. Dalam konteks ini memperkuat pemikiran Berger dan Luckmann terutama pada bagian bentuk realitas sosial yang berhasil membangun hubungan baik antara kumpulan remaja bertato dengan masyarakat melalui tindakan dan interaksi. Sedangkan pada proses dialektis membutuhkan waktu dan usaha terus-menerus agar dapat menghilangkan stigma negatif yang melekat pada remaja bertato.
