Abstract

Excavator is mostly used for mining and construction. This heavy equipment, widely known as a backhoe, is a digging machine commonly used for dredging the mining materials, digging and leveling the soil, dredging the river, removing the road and demolition. Excavator has bucket teeth, component that frequently undergoes a change. The replacement of bucket teeth is performed due to its low usage time and many failure experiences such as wear, bend, crack and facture during the use. To prevent the occurrence of the failures, a structural analysis on bucket teeth is necessarily conducted. The analysis was conducted to find the stress distribution on bucket teeth from the rake angle effect during the excavation. The analysis was performed using finite element method by static loading and two-dimensional modeling to determine digging and resistive force in bucket teeth. Based on the analysis, it was obtained the stress distribution and maximum value of von misses occurring in the bucket teeth from the rake angle effect. The maximum stress, obtained from the analysis results, was then compared to the allowable stress of the bucket teeth material. The results showed that the materials used were in safe limits and had small potential for experiencing failure as well.

Abstract

Excavator bucket tool is one of the most important parts of an excavator. It is made of steel mixture. It is commonly equipped with protruding teeth on its cutting side to breakdown hard materials and also to prevent dryness and damage of the bucket. Excavator bucket tooth must have supporting geometrical shape to penetrate and to endure the digging process on the ground, gravels, stones, or any other abrasive field. It is because of the field’s natural characteristic when the bucket tool grinds the material. Mixed iron is common to be used as excavator bucket tool’s material because it is easy to get and economic. High hardness value is also needed on the surface that transports hard material such as mining equipment. Therefore, an accurate analysis should be done to determine the suitable material on this field. Design and analysis were done by using Computer-Aided Engineering (CAE) Abaqus 6.10 application to get the maximum tension as the result of loading. Analysis process to get the tension was done by adding 8285.06 N weight forces in static condition with the angle of 32o to the horizon. From the analysis it could be known that maximum tension experienced by excavator bucket tooth is 209.3 MPa, and it is still below the Maximum Equivalent von Mises stress so the design could be categorized as safe.

Abstract

The industrial world and vehicles that currently exist make the pollution level increase. Often we see thick smoke rising out of the factory chimney, the thick smoke is a waste of gas released by the environmental factory. The scrubber system is a collection of various air pollution control devices that can be used for particles and / or gases from industrial output gas streams. The term scrubber is also used to describe a system that injects or enters a dry active ingredient or liquid into a dirty gas stream to clean acid gas. The design of the venturi scrubber aims to design a venturi scrubber to reduce soot emissions on direct injection diesel engines, get a standard venturi scrubber design and reduce soot levels. This design begins with determining the alternative design, determining the venturi dimensions and the material that will be used to build the venturi scrubber. The result of this step is a working drawing that is ready to be realized through machining. Next is to make the components based on the design results in the previous step. These components are then assembled into a tool. The final step is to do the venturi design test according to the venturi type standard and the size requirements that are in the ISO 5167-4 standard. Making a venturi scrubber design program using Delphi-7 software with pressure drop data, liquid to gas ratio, diameter ratio, pipe diameter, throat diameter, renold number and type of flow that occurs and design using Solidworks 2010.

Abstract

An algorithm to determine changes in surface topography on asperity level has been developed in this paper. The software tool stitches small but detailed images together to create one large image. If such an image is made before and after an experiment, their difference shows a direct 3D view of the changes in micro-geometry, rather than a change in surface parameters such as RMS or CLA roughness. The algorithm is described in detail and demonstrated by appling to real rough surfaces.

Abstract

This paper presents experiments to study the change of the surface topography on a boundary lubricated reciprocating sliding contact system. A  Micromap 512 optical profilometer is employed for measuring surface characteristics. The change of the surface topography before and after the experiment is determined in detail and accurate (microscopically) by the Matching and Stitching method.  Plot of the profile of the surface roughness for a certain number of running-in cycles were presented in a figure for before, after and difference, so that analysis of the surface topography change can be accurately performed

Abstract

Salah satu indikasi kerusakan komponen mekanik adalah keausan. Keausan disebabkan oleh berbagai macam faktor diantaranya adalah jenis material yang berkontak, kondisi pelumasan, perlakuan terhadap pengoperasian komponen, kekasaran permukaan yang berkontak, kondisi operasi dan lain-lain. Seringkali keausan menyebabkan kegagalan, namun demikian, keausan akibat proses running-in justru menguntungkan. Running-in merupakan proses adaptasi antar komponen yang berkontak menuju keadaan setimbang, sehingga proses ini sangat menentukan sistem kontak sesudahnya. Makalah ini bertujuan mempelajari fenomena keausan running-in pada kontak sliding antara bola baja dengan pelat kuningan melalui pengujian dengan mesin jenis two-disc. Sliding dilakukan dengan slip 200% yaitu menahan salah satu disc dan memutar disc pasangannya. Fenomena running-in dipelajari melalui perubahan koefisien gesekan dan perubahan topografi permukaan yang berkontak. Hal yang menarik adalah pengukuran koefisien gesekan dan topografi permukaan dilakukan semi-online. Kurva koefisien gesekan sebagai fungsi dari waktu ditampilkan dan perubahan topografi permukaan kontak selama proses atau running juga ditampilkan pada setiap siklus atau waktu tertentu. Periode running-in dapat diprediksi melalui perubahan koefisien gesekan dan dikonfirmasi dengan perubahan kekasaran permukaan.

Abstract

Study the change of the surface topography using spectral density analysis was done by performing experiments on ball-on-plate steel under boundary lubricated reciprocating sliding contact. Measurement of the surface topography was executed by an optical profilometer: Micromap 512. Matching and Stitching computer code method was employed in order to get more detailed information about the surfaces before and after the experiment. The profile evolutions of the surface for a certain number of running cycles were presented on the PSD (Power Spectral Density) and spatial frequency form. In the analysis, results show that the surface changes more in the running direction than in the traverse direction.

Abstract

Komponen mesin yang saling berkontak dan terjadi gerak translasi satu sama lain disebut sebagai kontak sliding atau kontak luncur. Gerakan sliding paling banyak dijumpai pada proses manufaktur maupun proses lainnya seperti grinding, gerakan ring-piston dan lain-lain. Makalah ini mempresentasikan pemodelan elemen hingga kontak sliding baik yang tunggal maupun berulang pada sistem kontak antara bola dengan permukaan kasar. Pemodelan dilakukan melalui beberapa tahap: pengukuran geometri permukaan, proses pemberian geometri permukaan kasar hingga proses analisa elemen hingga. Parameter-parameter kontak sliding ditampilkan melalui distribusi tegangan von Mises dan perubahan topografi permukaan kasar baik untuk kontak sliding tunggal maupun berulang. Model yang dikembangkan telah berhasil mempresentasikan fenomena kontak sliding terutama pada perubahan topografi permukaan kasar.

Abstract

Abstract

A theoretical model for the elastic-plastic contact of ellipsoid bodies is presented in this paper. Contactparameters, such as the mean contact pressure, the contact area and the contact load as a function of the contactinterference are formulated and modeled in the three different contact regimes: elastic, elastic-plastic and fully plastic.The model introduces a new simple method to analyze the complexity of the elliptical integral by an accurateapproximation so that the calculation can be executed very fast.
