Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of feeding a concentrate containing corn cobs meal on glucose, urea and blood hemoglobin level of Bali cattle consuming forages. This study used a total six young male Bali cattle aged 1.5 to 2 years with weight ranging 101,5-120 kg. The method used in this experiment was double Latin Square Design with 3 treatments and 3 periods. The treatments were P1 = forages commonly given by farmers in the form of natural grass, kapuk and leucaena leaves. P2 = P1 + concentrate without corn cobs meal (1 kg / day) and P3 = P1 (basal feed) + concentrate containing corn cobs meal (1kg / day). The variables measured were blood glucose, urea and hemoglobin levels. Data were analyzed using analysis of variance (ANOVA). Results showed that blood glucose level was not significally different (P >0,05) among treatments,i.e. P1(62.21 mg/ dl), P2 (64.31 mg / dl), P3 (66.16 mg / dl). Mean while, blood urea consentration significantly declined (P<0,05) in animals supplement with corn cob meal containing concentrate. Blood hemoglobin level increase significantly (P<0,05) from 12.59 g/dl in P1 to 13.95 g/dl in P2 and 14.22 g/dl in P3. The conclusion of this study is that supplementation of concentrate with or without corn cobs meal declines blood urea concentration and increase hemoglobin level without affecting blood glucose levels in young male Bali cattle fattened on forages. ABSTRAK Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui pengaruh pemberian pakan konsentrat yang mengandung tepung tongkol jagung terhadap kadar glukosa, urea dan hemoglobin darah pada sapi bali penggemukan pola peternak yang mengkonsumsi hijauan. Dalam penelitian ini digunakan sebanyak 6 ekor ternak sapi bali jantan bakalan yang berumur 1,5 sampai 2 tahun dengan kisaran berat badan 101,5-120 kg. Metode yang digunakan adalah metode percobaan dengan menggunakan Rancangan Bujur Sangkar Latin (RBSL) dengan 3 perlakuan dan 3 periode sebagai ulangan. Perlakuan yang diberikan adalah P1 = pakan hijauan yaitu yang biasa diberikan oleh peternak berupa rumput alam, daun kapuk dan lamtoro. P2 = P1 (pakan pola peternak) + pakan konsentrat tanpa tongkol jagung (1 kg/hari). P3 = P1 (pakan pola peternak) + pakan konsentrat yang mengandung tepung tongkol jagung (1kg/hari). Variabel yang diukur adalah kadar glukosa darah, kadar urea darah dan kadar hemoglobin darah. Data yang diperoleh dianalisis menggunakan Analysis Of Variance (ANOVA) untuk melihat pengaruh perlakuan terhadap variabel yang diteliti. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan kadar glukosa darah tidak berbeda diantara perlakuan (P>0,05),sementara itu kadar urea darah P1 (28,88 mg/dl) dan P2 (28,02 mg/dl) secara signifikan lebih tinggi (P<0,05) dibandingkan P3 (26,86 mg/dl). Kadar hemoglobin darah meningkat signifikan (P <0,05) dari P1 (12.59 g/dl) menjadi P2(13.95 g/dl), P3(14,22 g/dl). Kesimpulan dari hasil penelitian ini adalah suplementasi konsentrat dengan dan tanpa tongkol jagung menurunkan kadar urea darah dan meningkatkan hemoglobin darah tanpa mempengaruhi kadar glukosa darah ternak sapi bali jantan penggemukan.

Abstract

This study aimed to determine the right time to harvest Clitoria ternatea with the highest energy content at different plant density. The research was conducted in the Noelbaki village, District Central Kupang, while the in vitro analysis was conducted at Animal Feed Laboratory in Fapet Undana for 5 months starting in October 2015 until February 2016. The study was conducted using a completely randomized factorial design. Factor A was plant spacing with 5 treatments and factor B was cutting age with 3 treatments, resulting in 15 combinations with three replications. Result showed that there was no interaction (P> 0.05) between the plant spacing and cutting age in terms of IVDMD, IVOMD, and DE of Clitoria ternatea. Plant spacing did not significantly (P> 0.05) affect IVDMD, IVOMD and DE of Clitoria ternatea. Cutting age did not have significant effect (P> 0.05) on IVDMD and DE, but have significant effect (P <0.05) IVOMD of Clitoria ternatea. To obtain high energy value of Clitoria ternatea planted monoculture or integrated with maize which planted at different row distances, it should be hervested at the age of no more at 90 days. ABSTRAK Penelitin ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui waktu pemotongan yang tepat dalam pemotongan Clitoria ternatea dengan kandungan energi tertinggi pada jarak tanam yang berbeda. Penelitian dilakukan dengan menggunakan Rancangan Acak Lengkap pola faktorial. Faktor A adalah jarak tanam dengan 5 perlakuan dan Faktor B adalah umur pemotongan dengan 3 perlakuan, sehingga menghasilkan 15 kombinasi perlakuan dengan 3 kali ulangan. Dari hasil uji statistik tidak ada interaksi (P>0.05) antar jarak tanam dan umur pemotongan terhadap IVDMD, IVOMD, dan DE tanaman Clitoria ternatea. Jarak tanam tidak berpengaruh (P>0.05) terhadap IVDMD, IVOMD dan DE tanaman Clitoria ternatea. Umur pemotongan tidak berpengaruh nyata (P>0,05) terhadap IVDMD dan DE, dan berpengaruh (P<0.05) terhadap IVOMD tanaman Clitoria ternatea. Untuk menghasikan nilai energi Clitoria ternatea yang ditanam monokultur maupun terintegrasi dengan jagung pada jarak tanam rapat maupun jarak tanam yang longgar sebaiknya dipotong pada umur 90 hari.

Abstract

The objective of this experiment was to determine the effect of feeding complete feeds differing in the ratio between gliricidia fallen leaf and banana pesudostem on feeding behaviour of Kacang goats. This experiment followed a 4x4 latin square design with four treatments, i.e. P0S70: 70% gliricidia fallen leaf and 30% concentrate, P30S40: 40% gliricidia fallen leaf, 30% banana pseudostem and 30% concentrate, P40S30: 30% gliricidia fallen leaf, 40% banana pseudostem and 30% concentrate, and P70S0: 70% banana pseudostem and 30 concentrate. The measured variables included the frequency and eating time, frequency and ruminating time, and frequency and resting time. Data were subjected to Analyses of Variance (ANOVA) followed by Duncan Multiple Range Test to separate between means. Results showed that eating frequency was significantly (P<0.05) lower in P0S70 compared to other treatmets. Eating time, however, did not differ (P>0,05) between treatments. Ruminating time increased (P<0,05) with increasing the proportion of banana pseudostem in the complete feed, but ruminating frequency did not differ between treatments (P>0,05). There was significant treatment effect (P<0,05) on resting time but not on resting frequency. It can be concluded that different ratio between gliricidia fallen leaf and banana pseudostem have significant effect on eating frequency, rumination time and resting time, but not on eating time, and the frequency of rumination and resting of Kacang goats.

Abstract

The objective of this experiment was to evaluate the effect subsitutional of corn fodder on intake and fiber digestibility, volatile fatty acid and blood glucose concentration of weaned Ongole x Brahman calves. This experiment followed a 4x4 latin square design with four treatments, i.e. G : 100% nature grass silage, GCF1 : 35% nature grass silage, 35% corn fodder silage and 30% concentrate, GCF2 : 17,5% nature grass silage, 52,5% corn fodder and 30% concentrate, GCF3 : 70% corn fodder and 30% concentrate. The measured variables included fiber intake and digestibility, volatile fatty acid and blood glucose concentration. Data were subjected to Analysis of Variance (Anova) followed by Duncan Multiple Range Test to separate between means with SPSS 21. Result showed that fiber intake was significantly (P<0.05) lower in GCF3 (299,88 g.d-1) compared to the other treatments which varied between 661,55 to 1293,95 g.d-1. Fiber digestibility, however, did not differ (P>0.05) between treatments, i.e. varied between 55,95 to 72,65%. Volatile Fatty Acid concentration increased (P<0.05) with the increasing levels substitutions of corn fodder in feed. The treatments did not affect (P>0.05) blood glucose concentration of Ongole calves. It can be concluded that substitution of corn fodder for native grass silage has significant effect on fiber intake and Volatile Fatty Acid concentration but not on fiber digestibility and blood glucose concentration of weaned cross Ongole calves.

Abstract

This research aimed to study the effect of feeding silage of kume grass and Pasiflora foetida leaves differing in their ratio on fiber intake and digestibility, rumen VFA and blood glucose concentration of male kacang goats. This study used four male kacang goats with the average body wight of 10,5 kg. This experiment followed a 4x4 Latin Square design with four treatments in four 21-day periods as replications. The treatments were M0 : silage made of 100 % kume grass, M20 : silage made of 80% kume grass + 20% Passiflora foetida, M40 : 60% kume grass + passiflora foetida 40%, M60 : 40% kume grass + 60% Passiflora foetida. Result showed that feeding silage made of different ratio of kume grass and Passiflora foetida leaves did not significantly (P>0,05) affect the length and frequency of eating, the length of rumination period as well as the length and frequency of resting period. Therefore, it can be concluded that inclusion of P. foetida in the silage mix with kume grass up to 60% is considered save as it did not affect the feeding behaviour of Kacang goats.

Abstract

The purpose of this experiment was to evaluate the herbage production and energy value of Suket putihan grass (Bothriochloa pertusa) harvested at different ages. The experiment was carried out following a completely randomize design with 3 treatments and 3 replications. The treatments consisted of different defoliation ages of Suket putihan grass (Bothriochloa pertusa), i.e. respectively at 40 days (BP40), 60 days (BP60), 80 days (BP80). The observed variables included the dry matter (DM) production, stem leaf ratio, In vitro digestibillity and energy value. Result showed that the defoliaton age had a significant effect (P<0.05) on dry matter production, stem leaf ratio, dry matter digestibillity and had a very significant effect (P<0.01) on the organic matter digestibillity and energy value of Suket putihan grass (Bothriochloa pertusa). The DM production of Suket Putihan grass (Bothriochloa pertusa) increased with increasing defoliation age, while its In vitro digestibility and energy value decreased due to the high stem to leaf ratio and increased harvesting time. In conclusion, the best defoliation time for B. pertusa is between 40 and 60 days after planting.

Abstract

This study aimed to determine the effect of the level of supplementation of black kabesak fruit (Acacia nilotica) on the intake and digestibility of dry matter (DM) and organic matter (OM) in Ongole cows maintained on a basal diet containing banana stems, rice bran and rice straw. This study used 3 cull Onggole cows (BW range 194-210.5 kg) aged 8-9 years. The experiment was conducted following the Latin Square Design (LSD) with 3 treatments and 3 periods as replication. The treatments were basal feed and supplemented with Acacia nilotica fruit at a level of 0% (BAN0), 0.5% (BAN0.5), 1% (BAN1) of the animal's body weight respectively. The results showed that supplementation of Acacia nilotica fruit up to 1% of body weight increased (P<0.01) the intake of DM and OM. Meanwhile, the supplementation of A. nilotica at 1% BW increased the digestibility of DM but had no effect on the digestibility of OM. The conclusion of the study was that the supplementation of black kabesak fruit (Acacia nilotica) up to a level of 1% BB could be beneficial in increasing the intake of DM and OM and the digestibility of DM in cull Onggole cows.

Abstract

This experiment aimed to investigate the effect of including Clitoria ternatea and Ulva lactuca in the complete feed on the concentration of blood metabolites of male kacang goats. Four male kacang goats were involved in this experiment arranged following a Latin Square Design with 4 treatments and 4 periods as replication. The treatments were R0= native grass hay 60%+concentrate 40%, R1= native grass hay 30%+concentrate 40%+ Clitoria ternatea 30%, R2= native grass hay 30%+concentrate 40%+ Clitoria ternatea 15%+ Ulva lactuca 15% and R3= native grass hay 30%+ concentrate 40%+Ulva lactuca 30%. Data were analyzed using analysis of variance (ANOVA) and followed by the Duncan Multiple Range Test when significant differences were found. The results showed that feeding a complete feed containing Clitoria ternatea and Ulva lactuca did not significantly (P>0,05) affect the concentration of urea, glucose and plasm total protein in the blood of male kacang goats. Therefore, it can be concluded the inclusion of Clitoria ternatea and Ulva lactuca has no effect on the concentration of blood metabolites in male kacang goats.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect of the level of C. odorata (CO) silage-based concentrate on the blood profiles of Bali cattle. Three male Bali cattle (initial 2 years old with CV = 19,28%) were randomly assigned to one of three meals: rice straw and concentrates containing C.odorata silage 30% (RCO30) or  C.odorata silage 40% (RCO40) or C.odorata silage 50% (RCO50), respectively, using a 3 x 3 Latin Square Design. The was no significant effect between treatments (P> 0.05) on blood cholesterol (195.74-220.49 mg/dL), blood urea (48.41-49.44 mg/dL), total blood plasma (6.08-6.93 g/dL), blood haemoglobin (Hb; 18.18-18.92 g/dL), hematocrit levels (45.56-53.03%), erythrocytes (7.06-8.24 106/l), and leucocytes (8.56-8.84/l). Blood glucose levels, however, differed significantly (P<0.05) between treatment. Feeding Bali cattle with different levels of C.odorata-based concentrate resulted in the same effect on all blood parameters except blood glucose. Therefore, it is recommended that the use of C.odorata in a ration of Bali cattle can be up to 50%.

Abstract

This study was conducted with the aim to determine the effect of feeding complete silage of sorghum-Clitoriaternatea to Bali cattle which was added concentrate containing zinc sulfate and zinc-copper isoleucinate on thelevels of metabolites found. in animal blood. In this study, four male Bali cattle aged one to one and a half yearswere used, weighing between 123 and 130 kg and a coefficient of variation (CV) of 26%. This study used a Latinsquare design, with four different treatments and four different time periods as replications. The four treatments areas follows: T0: Sorghum-Clitoria ternatea silage without added concentrate; T1: Complete feed made fromsorghum-Clitoria ternatea silage with the addition of 10% concentrate containing 150 mg ZnSO4 and 2% Zn-CuIsoleucinate; and T2: complete feed made from sorghum-Ci silage. T3:Sorghum-Clitoria ternatea Silage-BasedComplete Feed Clitoria ternatea with the addition of 20% concentrate containing 150 mg ZnSO4 and 2% Zn-CuIsoleucinate, and T3:Sorghum-Clitoria ternatea Silage-Based Complete Feed Clitoria ternatea with the addition of30% Concentrate containing 150 mg ZnSO4 and 2% Zn-Cu Isoleucinate. Analysis of variance was used tounderstand the collected data. Concentrations of glucose, urea, total plasma protein, and blood cholesterol are someof the parameters analyzed. The findings from the statistical analysis revealed that the therapy had no significanteffect (P>0.05) on blood metabolite concentrations in Bali cattle. The results of this study indicated that the addition of concentrates containing zinc sulfate and zinc copper isoleucinate to a complete feed consisting of Clitoria ternateasorghum silage did not increase the concentration of metabolites present in the blood of Bali cattle. Penelitian ini dilakukan dengan tujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh pemberian pakan silase lengkap sorgum-Clitoriaternatea pada sapi Bali yang ditambahkan konsentrat yang mengandung seng sulfat dan seng-tembaga isoleusinatterhadap kadar metabolit yang ditemukan dalam darah hewan. Dalam penelitian ini digunakan empat ekor sapi Balijantan berumur satu sampai satu setengah tahun, dengan bobot antara 123 sampai 130 kg dan koefisien variasi (26%. Analisis varians digunakan untuk memahami data yangdikumpulkan. Konsentrasi glukosa, urea, protein plasma total, dan kolesterol darah adalah beberapa parameter yangdianalisis.
