Abstract

Abstract: The research is a descriptive research that was conducted based on the problem occurred at the first years students of SMA 7 Siak; namely the students were lack in making sentences using relative pronouns that influence them got poor sore in test. Therefore, this research was aimed to find out on the ability of the first years students of SMA 7 Siak in combining sentences using relative pronouns. The participants were 35 students from first years of SMA 7 Siak. This research was conducted for about four months(February – May, 2015) and wad taken on April 6th and April 8th , 2015 at SMAN 7 Siak, Tut WuriHandayani street No.1, Kandis. The data collection technique was obtained through (1) try out which was applied to know the quality of the test items, particularly to determine the item difficulty and item discrimination and (2) test was done to measure students’ achievement. The research finding can briefly explain as follow: First the result of the test shows that the easiest relative pronouns is ‘where’ (average to good level), while the most difficult relative pronouns is ‘whom’ (poor level). It can be seen in the mean score for relative pronoun ‘where’ is 66,25 (average to good level) and the mean score for relative pronoun ‘whom’ is 34,38 (poor level).Keyword: relative pronouns, combining sentences.

Abstract

Abstract: The aims of this research are to develop English learning documents (lesson plan and students’ worksheet) using task-based learning as one of learning models suggested in the 2013 Curriculum and to find out the validity level of developing English learning documents using task-based learning in teaching recount texts for the first year students of SMA. The research design is Research & Development (R&D) applied 4D model by Thiagarajan (1974). To develop English learning documents, there were three stages involve in this research, (a) define stage which is done to set and define the product development requirements, (b) design stage which is done to plan the draft of learning documents and arranged it into the format and (c) develop stage which is done to modify and validate the learning documents. In order to find out the validity level of developing English learning documents, the data were collected using validation sheet of lesson plan and validation sheet of students’ worksheet validated by experts. Based on data analysis result, the validation score of lesson plan is 94,50% and the validation score of students’ worksheet is 95,19%. The result showed that the learning documents in the form of lesson plan and students’ worksheet were very valid and can be implemented in a classroom.Key Words: Research and Development (R&D), Lesson plan (LP), Students’ Worksheet (SW),Task-based learning, Recount Text.

Abstract

Abstract: This main objectives of study are to find out; 1) the students’reading motivation, 2) the students’ reading comprehension scores and 3) thecorrelation between reading motivation and reading comprehension ability.The population of the study is 101 students of the second year students, whilethe sample is 34 students are by using the cluster random samplin techniqu wasused in this study. The data were collected through 48 questions about (readingability) student comprehension (Reading Comprehension) and 20 statements(questionnaires) about reading motivation The result of the test was analyzedby using Pearson product moment though SPSS version 23.0. From theanalysis, it was found that the second year students’ of SMA PGRI Pekanbaruwere in the very bad level in their reading motivation, meanwhile the students’reading comprehension mean score 33.38 was in the poor level 38.32. meanscore. The correlation between both variables was in low correlation with thelevel was 0.16. However, building motivation and mindset about having a goodreading motivation is essential to be recommended because it is very useful todevelop students’ English skill and help them to face some tests which correlatewith students’ reading comprehension ability.Keywords: Correlation, Reading Motivation, Reading Comprehension Ability

Abstract

Abstract: This research was designed to investigate whether there is a significant effect of using Read Encode Annotate Ponder strategy on reading comprehension of narrative text of the first year students of SMAN 1 Tebing Tinggi Timur Meranti. This research took place at SMAN 1 Tebing Tinggi Timur Meranti from April to june 2017. The sample was 40 students from X.2 Social that took by using cluster sampling technique. The test containing 40 items was used to collect the data. The technique of data analysis was paired sample t-test. The research findings found that there was a significant difference of students’ reading comprehension on narrative text after being taught through Read Encode Annotate Ponder strategy. Based on the data analysis, it was found that t-test (7.051)was bigger than t-table (2.023). This suggested that REAP strategy was effective in teaching reading narrative text.Keywords: Read Encode Annotate Ponder, Reading Comprehension, Narrative Text

Abstract

Abstract: The research was aimed to develop and to find out the validity level of English instructional tools (lesson plan and students’ worksheet) by using Problem Based Learning as one of learning models suggested in the 2013 Curriculum.. The research design is developmental research design applied which 4D model by Thiagarajan (1974). In order to find out the validity level of developing English instructional tools, the data were collected by using validation sheet of lesson plan and students’ worksheet. The English instructional tools, then validated by experts. Based on data analysis, the validation score of lesson plan is 91,61% and the validation score of students’ worksheet is 92,01%. Those results showed that the instructional tools in the form of lesson plan and students’ worksheet were very valid. Abstract

Abstract: This research was designed to experiment the effect of cooperative integrated reading and composition (CIRC) technique on the students’ reading comprehension of descriptive texts. The aim was to find out whether there is any significant effect of using CIRC technique on the students’ reading comprehension of descriptive texts. This research took place in SMPN 1 Kubu, Rokan Hilir that collected from January to October 2017. The try out class was VIII4 (25 students) and the sample was VIII2 (25 students) chosen by purposive sampling. This is a pre-experimental research with one group pre-test post-test design. This research used quantitative data and the instrument used to collect the data is a reading test in multiple choice forms. The tests consisted of 40 items. As the result, the mean score of pre-test is 46.52 and the mean score of post-test is 59.80. In other words, the mean score of post-test is higher than the mean score of pre-test. The result also showed that the value of t-test (5.226) is higher than t-table (2.064) at the significance level 5%. It means that Alternative Hypothesis (Ha) is accepted and Null Hypothesis (Ho) is rejected. Hence, there is a significant effect of using CIRC technique on reading comprehension of the second year students of SMPN 1 Kubu, Rokan Hilir in Descriptive texts.Key Words: Student’s Reading Comprehension, CIRC Technique, Descriptive Texts.

Abstract

Abstract: The objective of this research is to find out the correlation between vocabulary mastery and speaking ability in describing people by the second year students of SMPN 12 Bintan. The sample of this research was class VIII 2, which consist of 30 students. The data were collected by using two kinds of test, vocabulary test and speaking test. The result of this research showed that the second year students of SMPN 12 Bintan got good to excellent level with the average score 83.16 in vocabulary test and in speaking the students got good level with average to good score 73.56 The result of this research proved that there is a positive correlation between vocabulary mastery and speaking ability in describing people. The rxy distribution of the coefficient correlation is 0.68. It means that the correlation was in moderate level. So, Ha (alternative hypothesis) of this research is accepted and null hypothesis (Ho) is rejected. There was no much different between the students’ vocabulary score and student’ speaking score. In other words, it can be concluded that students who are good in vocabulary will also tend to be good in speaking.Keywords: correlation, vocabulary mastery, speaking ability

Abstract

Abstract: This descriptive research is aimed to find out the students' difficulties in writing Analytical Exposition Texts at the second-year students of SMA N 13 Pekanbaru and to analyze the students’ difficulties in writing Analytical Exposition Text at the second-year students of SMA N 13 Pekanbaru. The population of this research was the second year students of SMA N 13 Pekanbaru in the academic year of 2019/2020. The samples were the students of XI. MIA 1 consists of 30 students who have been selected using cluster random sampling technique. The data were collected by using writing test and interview. The writing tests were analyzed using a writing assessment by Hughes (1989), and the interviews were analyzed by counting the most answers. As a result of the research, it was found that the second year students’ difficulties in writing analytical exposition text were classified as fair (63, 9). The second year students’ difficulties were found in the aspect of the organization (51, 8) and mechanic (56). Thus, in other words, it can be concluded that students’ difficulties in writing analytical exposition texts by the second year students of SMA N 13 Pekanbaru were classified into fair (63.9) and the students’ difficulties were in the aspect of organization and mechanic.Key Words: Analysis, Difficulties, Writing, Analytical Exposition Text.

Abstract

Abstract: This descriptive research was aimed to find out the effectiveness of Make a Match Technique in increasing students’ vocabulary mastery for junior high school. In this research the data were taken from seven references including journals and previous research studies that published in 2014 – 2020. The data were analyzed in two processes: descriptive analysis and content analysis. The result of the data analysis showed that the researcher of the seventh data sources had the similarities of research questions/objectives, their research questions/objectives related to the objective of the research in this research which is to find out the effectiveness of Make a Match Technique in increasing vocabulary mastery. There were Classroom Action Research, Experimental Research and Qualitative Descriptive found in the seventh data sources as the research design. Besides, the similarities findings found from the seventh data sources was that Make a Match Technique significantly improve students’ vocabulary mastery.
