Abstract

The Aims of this study is to know the anthelmintics activity of ethanol extract of african leaf (Vernonia amygdalina) on mortality of Fasciola gigantica in Vitro. Method that used in the research was a completely randomized design. There were five treatments and each treatment was done in four replications. This research used ten Fasciola gigantica in each treatment for all replications. The observation and recording of dead Fasciola gigantica was done at 2, 4, 6, 8, and 10 hours.  Fasciola gigantica were declared dead if there was no movement when disturbed by anatomy tweezers and when dipped in slightly warm water (500C). The obtained data was analyzed using ANOVA and continued with Duncan Multiple Range Test. The result of this research show that ethanol of extract of African Leaf (Vernonia amygdalina) has activity anthelmintic on mortality of Fasciola gigantica in Vitro. Ethanol extract african leaf (Vernonia amygdalina) with concentration of 1.4% is the optimal concentration of anthelmintics. This higher the concentration of the extract, the higher the property of anthelmintics.

Abstract

The aims of this study is to know the effectiveness of ethanol extract of red betel leaf (Piper crocatum) against mortality of Boophilus microplus Larvae in Vitro, as well as knowing lethal concentration 50 (LC50) and lethal concentration 90 (LC90). Method that used in the research was completely randomized design. There were five treatments and each treatment was done in five replications. This research used ten Boophilus microplus larvae in each treatment for all replication. The observation and recording of mortality was done at 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5 hours. Boophilus microplus larvae were declared dead if there was no movement. The obtained data was analyzed using ANOVA factorial. The result of this research show that ethanol extract of red betel leaf (Piper crocatum) has effectiveness against mortality of Boophlius microplus larvae in Vitro. In the extract 10% concentration, there is effectiveness that almost the same as Noticks®. The higher concentration of the extract, the higher the effectiveness against mortality lavae. In probit analysis show that LC50 achieved by concentration 5,4% or 2.700mg/50ml and LC90 achieved by concentration 11,3% or 5.650mg/50ml.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the pentastomide parasite that infects the digestive tract of giant water lizards examined in Laboratory of Parasitology Department, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Airlangga University. In this study, three sample were found to be infected with pentastomide parasite in the lung. The phase found was adult phase pentastomide; it has pentastomide spermatheca which shows that this parasite is female.

Abstract

The purpose of this research is to find the effectiveness of bandotan’s (Ageratum conyzoides L.) leaf extract on mortality of Boophilus microplus in vitro and also to get of lethal concentration and lethal time. This research used 125 Boophilus microplus. This research used five treatments, namely neguvon suspensionon (K+), ethanol 1% (K-), 1% concentration (P1), 2% concentration (P2) and 3% concentration (P3). The observation of mortality was done every six hours. Boophilus microplus dies when there is no movement. The data were analyzed using one-way ANOVA and followed by Duncan's Multiple Distance Test. The result is said to be significant if p<0.05. Probit analysis of LC50 is 1.63% at the first hour, 0.85% at the second hour, 0.54% at the third hour, 0.34% at the fourth hour, 0.04% at the fifth hour and 0.04% at the sixth hour, LC90 reached by using 5.6%, 2.9%, 1.8%, 1.2%, 0.16 and 0.16% concentration in 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6 hours, respectively. The LT50 of ethanol 1% (K-) was at 10.142 hours, neguvon suspension on (K+) was at 0.747 hours, 1% concentration (P1) was at 2.184 hours, 2% concentration (P2) was at 1.579 hours, 3% concentration (P3) was at 0.923 hours and LT90 was at 23.734, 1.749, 5.110, 3.695 and 2.159 hours. The conclusion of this study was bandotan’s (Ageratum conyzoides L.) leaf extract was effective as an acaricide based on the mortality of Boophilus microplus.

Abstract

This case reported about mycotoxin contamination on cat feed cause gastrointestinal disorders. A 5 y.o. male domestic short hair cat (Felix domesticus) was brought to the Animal Hospital, Universitas Airlangga with a history has been lethargic and disphagia for 2 days with vomiting a yellow fluid and diarrhea. Bowel movements, increasing in panting, and urination were examined. Observation in cat with gastrointestinal disorders for 5 days in animal hospital. Abnormal intestine and hepatomegaly based on x-ray were confirmed about mycotoxin contamination on cat food. Treatment for contamination on cat food was done by given protexin like probiotic to stimulate a villi intestinal growth and gastric condition. Itraconazole for antifungal to maintanace mycotoxin contamination was also considered. Our prescription was performed for our management treatment with gastrointestinal disoders. In advice, veterinarians should be giving information about the nutritional diet for a pet animal.

Abstract

The aim of this research was to determine the level of stability of Progesterone-retention time on Eluen Phase Mobile (EPM) solution in storage period for six, eight and 12 hours using High Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC). The research method used posttest-only control group design by using three treatments and six repetitions. The three repetitions consist into six hours, eight hours and 12 hours. The data were obtained analyzed by Summery Independent T-Test with SPSS 24 for windows. The results showed that the progesterone treatment in EPM solvents with six-hour storage (P1) and eight hours (P2) retention time progesterone are stable but the progesterone treatment in EPM solvent with 12-hour storage (P3) showed an unstable due to storage time. Besides that there are irrelevant peak which show that many pure molecular fractions are separated in the stationary phase so that the molecular structure of the substance begins to break down. Based on these results, it can be concluded that the storage time of Progesterone in Eluen Phase Mobile began to be unstable at 12 hours of storage.

The result showed six hours retention time of Megestrole acetate is stable and eight hours treatment and 12 hours treatment are not stable there is one unstable point of 12 hours treatment that indicates the substance is break down. Based on those result, it could be concluded that the storage time of Megestrole acetate in Eluent Mobile Phase began to show unstable at eight hours of storage.

Abstract

This research aimed to determine the effects of toxic white pomegranate fruit extract (Punica granatum L) against larvae of brine shrimp (Artemia salina Leach) indicated LC50 values below 1000 µg/ml. This study is purely experimental by using Brine Shrimp Lethality Test (BSLT). The study was divided into seven groups, namely ethanol extract of white pomegranate fruit (Punica granatum L) with a concentration of 31,25; 62,5; 125; 250; 500; 1000 µg/ml and negative control (seawater). Mortality data percentage of Artemia salina Leach analyzed by probit analysis. Results showed that the extract of white pomegranate fruit extract (Punica Granatum L) has a toxic effect with LC50 values of 248,6 µg/ml calculate from probit analysis. From these results, it can conclude that white pomegranate extract is toxic to larval shrimp (Artemia salina Leach) with Brine Shrimp Lethality Test (BSLT) method which means white pomegranate extract has the potential to be an anticancer drug.
