Abstract

Abstract: The purpose of this research are to investigate the effectiveness and the effect size of using Battleship game in teaching Yes/No questions in simple present tense to the seventh grade students of SMP Negeri 2 Semparuk in academic year 2014/2015.  This research was conducted as a pre-experimental research and the sample was class VIID which consists of 39 students. The data were collected through pre-test and post-test by using objective test consisting of twenty five items and were analyzed by using t-test and Effect Size (ES) formulas. The findings show that the t-computation is 16.6 (> 2.042) or higher than the t-table value with the degree of freedom of 38 and α of 0.05, and the effect of treatment is 2.67 (> 1.00) or categorized as strong effect. It indicates that the use of Battleship game is effective in teaching Yes/No questions in simple present tense. Keywords: Battleship game, Yes/No questions   Abstrak: Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui keefektifitian and tingkat efektifitas dari penggunaan Battleship game dalam pengajaran Yes/No questions dalam simple present tense terhadap siswa kelas 7 SMP Negeri 2 Semparuk tahun ajaran 2014/2015. Penelitian ini dilakukan dengan metode pre-eksperimen dan sampel penelitian ini adalah kelas VIID yang terdiri atas 39 siswa. Data penelitian dikumpulkan melalui pre-test dan post-test dengan menggunakan tes objektif yang berjumlah dua puluh lima soal dan data tersebut dianalisis dengan menggunakan rumus t-test dan ES (tingkat efektifitas). Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa hasil perhitungan t-test adalah 16.6 (> 2.042) atau lebih besar dibandingkan dengan nilai t tabel dengan degree of freedom sebesar 38 dan α sebesar 0.05, dan tingkat efektifitas adalah 2.67 (> 1.00) atau dikategorikan memiliki efek yang kuat. Hal ini menandakan bahwa penggunaan Battleship game efektif dalam pengajaran Yes/No questions dalam simple present tense. Kata kunci: Battleship game, Yes/No questions

Abstract

Abstract: This research is aimed at knowing the students’ English achievement profile from 2010 - 2014 at SMKN 1 Teluk Keramat, Sekura. The method used in this research is descriptive. Based on the analysis, the mean score ( ) of students’ English national examination (Ujian Nasional/UN) achievement in 2010 was 6.29 with standard deviation (SD) of 1.25. In UN 2011, = 7.2 and SD= 1.28. In UN 2012, = 5.14 and SD= 1.61. In UN 2013, = 5.79 and SD= 1.09; and in UN 2014, = 4.81 and SD= 1.23. In five years, students’ English mean scores ( ) in the national examination in SMKN 1 Teluk Keramat, Sekura was 5.85 with the standard deviation of 1.56. It is concluded that the students’ English achievement profile in SMKN 1 Teluk Keramat, Sekura in the last five years showed an inconsistency trend and tended to show a negative progress.Keywords: Achievement profile, national examination (UN)Abstrak: Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui profil pencapaian siswa pada mata pelajaran Bahasa Inggris pada tahun 2010 sampai 2014 pada SMKN 1 Teluk Keramat, Sekura. Metode yang digunakan pada penelitian ini adalah deskriptif. Berdasarkan analisis, nilai rata-rata ( ) pencapaian Bahasa Inggris siswa pada ujian nasional (UN) tahun 2010 adalah 6.29 dengan standar deviasi (SD) 1.25. UN 2011, =7.2 dan SD= 1.28. Abstract

AbstractThis research aimed to find out the correlation between study habits and the English achievement of the tenth grade students at SMA N 03 Ketapang in the academic year of 2017-2018. Students’ sex was considered as another predictor variable. Wrenn (1941) Study Habits Inventory (SHI) was used to measure the students’ study habits. Students’ score from the English test was considered as the students’ English achievement. Pearson product-moment found that there was a positive correlation between students study habits and the English achievement with a strong level of correlation. Which meant as the level of study habits increases, the English achievement also increases. The female group had a higher correlation than the male. From the four aspects of the study habits, General habits and Attitudes of Works (GH and AW) contributed the most for the English achievement of the female students. Distribution of Time and Social Relationship of Study (DT and SR) gave the biggest contribution for the English achievement of the male students. This study implied the male students should contribute more time for study out of the school’s hours, and the female students should use more strategies in learning English. Keywords: Correlational study, study habits, English achievement, sex

Abstract

Abstract: The purposes of this research are to find out whether the use of Peer Checklist effective or not and to find out how effective the use Peer Checklist is in teaching an application letter writing to eleventh grade students of SMK LKIA in academic year 2014/2015. This research was conducted as pre-experimental research. The sample of this research was class XI KN1 which consists of 34 students. The data  were collected by using pre-test and post-test through a written test. In the written test, the students were asked to write an application letter. The data were analyzed by using Effect Size (ES) formula. The finding shows that the effect of the treatment is 1.21 (≥ 1.00) or categorized as strong effect. Therefore, it was concluded that the use of peer checklist is effective in teaching the application letter writing. Keywords: Writing, Application Letter, Peer Checklist. Abstrak: Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui apakah penggunaan Peer Checklist efektif atau tidak dan untuk mengetahui keefektifan penggunaan peer Checklist dalam pengajaran menulis surat lamaran pekerjaan terhadap siswa kelas XI  SMK LKIA Pontianak tahun ajaran 2014/2015. Abstract

Abstract: The purpose of this research is to find out the most causing factor of undergraduate students’ difficulties in writing thesis in the English Education Study Program of FKIP Tanjungpura University Pontianak. Descriptive research design was used in this research. 28 students were chosen as the sample and selected by using purposive sampling. The data was collected by using questionnaire with 31 items designed on a five-point likert-type scale to capture students’ opinion about the causing factors of their difficulties in writing thesis. Data analysis shows that basic knowledge of thesis main components factor has percentage 27.68%, process of consultation factor has percentage 26.04%, psychological factor has percentage 25.25%, while economic factor has percentage 21.03%. Therefore, it is concluded that basic knowledge of thesis main component factor is the most causing factor of students’ difficulties in writing thesis.   Keywords: factors, difficulties, thesis     Abstrak: Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk menemukan faktor yang paling menyebabkan mahasiswa Prodi Bahasa Inggris FKIP Universitas Tanjungpura kesulitan dalam menulis skripsi. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah metode deskriptif. 28 siswa dipilih menjadi sample menggunakan sample purposif. Data dikumpulkan menggunakan angket yang berjumlah 31 item didesain berdasarkan 5 poin skala likert untuk menangkap opini mahasiswa mengenai faktor-faktor yang menyebabkan mereka kesulitan dalam menulis skripsi. Data analisis menunjukan bahwa faktor pengetahuan dasar dari komponen utama skripsi mendapat persentase 27.68%, faktor proses konsultasi mendapat persentase 26.04%, faktor psikologi mendapat persentase 25.25%, sedangkan faktor ekonomi mendapat persentase 21,03%. Oleh karena itu, disimpulkan bahwa faktor pengetahuan dasar dari komponen utama skripsi adalah faktor yang paling menyebabkan mahasiswa kesulitan dalam menulis skripsi.   Kata kunci: faktor, kesulitan, skripsi

Abstract

Abstract: This research is to find out whether the use of simulation significantly influenced the speaking ability on the eleventh grade students of SMK LKIA Pontianak. This is a pre-experimental. The sample of this research was class XI TN that consists of 32 students. The tool of data collecting of this research was a speaking test. Based on the findings, it showed that there was significant difference score before and after taught by simulation. The students’ mean score of pre-test was 50. Then, the students’ mean score of the post-test was 61. Thus it was categorized as moderate influence. From the result of paired t-test, the students’ achievement after taught by simulation showed tratio = 12.016 is higher than tcritical = 2.042, so it can be concluded that null hypothesis (Ho) is rejected, but alternative hypothesis (Ha) is accepted. Therefore, the writer concluded that teaching speaking by using simulation was succed.   Keywords: speaking, simulation, eleventh grade students, pre-experimental Abstrak: Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui apakah penggunaan simulasi secara signifikan mempengaruhi kemampuan berbicara pada siswa SMK LKIA Pontianak. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian pre-eksperimen. Sampel penelitian ini menggunakan kelas XI TN yang terdiri dari 32 siswa. Alat pengumpulan data dari penelitian ini adalah tes berbicara. Berdasarkan temuan, menunjukkan bahwa ada perbedaan hasil nilai berbicara siswa yang signifikan pada sebelum dan setelah diajarkan dengan menggunakan metode simulasi. Hasil nilai rata-rata pada pre-test siswa adalah 50. Selanjutnya, hasil nilai rata-rata pada post-test siswa adalah 61. Dengan demikian, hasil tersebut dapat dikategorikan sebagai cukup berpengaruh. Dari hasil uji-t berpasangan, prestasi siswa setelah diajarkan dengan imenggunakan simulasi menunjukkan t-ratio = 12,016 lebih tinggi dari t-critical = 2,042, sehingga dapat disimpulkan bahwa nol hipotesis (Ho) ditolak, tetapi alternatif hipotesis (Ha) diterima. Oleh karena itu, penulis menyimpulkan bahwa pengajaran berbicara dengan menggunakan metode simulasi telah sukses.   Kata kunci : berbicara, siswa kelas sebelas, pre-eksperimen

Abstract

AbstractThe research purpose is to see how far the improvement of students’ narrative writing has been made by using WH-Questions as a guide. The research method that used is a classroom action research and the data were collected by direct observation technique in the teaching learning process through field notes as the tools of research. The research was conducted in two cycles. The first cycle was conducted on 28 October 2011 and the second cycle on 3 November 2011. After conducting the research, the writer got the data which show that WH-Questions increased the students’ narrative writing in the classroom activity. The finding of this research showed that WH-Questions can help students to improve students’narrative writing, it is looked by the score from 58.13 at first cycle and 78.39 at second cycle.Keywords: WH-Questions, narrative writing

Abstract

AbstractThe aim of this research was to find out the effectiveness of animated video in teaching writing descriptive text to the eighth grade students of SMPN 14 Pontianak in academic year 2018/2019. The population of this research was the eighth grade students of SMPN 14 Pontianak in academic year 2018/2019. The researcher took the sample by using cluster random sampling technique. The sample of this research was the students of class VIII B which consisted of 24 students. The data were collected through measurement technique and written test. The data showed that the effect size of the treatment was 0.85, and it was categorized as moderate effect. The findings of the research obviously showed that the used of animated video was significantly effective to teach writing descriptive text to the eighth grade students of SMPN 14 Pontianak in academic year 2018/2019. Abstract

Abstract: The purpose of this research is to find out the correlation of scanning, skimming, and local folklore with comprehending narrative text to the eleventh grade students of SMAN 1 Sambas in academic year 2013/2014. This research was conducted as a correlation study by using four variables. The sample of this research were class XI class science II. The data were collected by using multiple choices consisting of fifteen items and questioner consisting of 6 questions, and were analyzed by using moment product Pearson formula. The finding shows that the correlation between the knowledge of skimming and scanning and local folklore material selection with comprehending narrative text is 0,18 or categorized as very low or negligible effect.. Keywords: Skimming, Scanning, Local Folklore, Comprehending Narrative Text Abstrak: Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui sejauh mana korelasi antara pengetahuan tehnik membaca skimming, scanning dan cerita rakyat local dengan kemampuan memahami teks naratif terhadap siswa kelas XI SMAN 1 Sambas tahun ajaran 2013/2014. Penelitian ini dilakukan dengan menggunakan metode korelasi ganda dengan empat variabel. Sampel penelitian ini terdiri dari kelas XI IA 2. Data penelitian dikumpulkan melalui tes pilihan ganda yang berjumlah 15 soal dan kuesioner 6 soal dan data tersebut dianalisa dengan menggunakan rumus moment product pearson. Hasil penelitian menunjukan bahwa korelasi antara tehnik membaca skimming, scanning dan materi cerita rakyat lokal adalah 0,18 atau dikategorikan memiliki efek lemah atau hampir tidak ada. Abstract

AbstractThe purpose of this research is to investigate how well Think Pair Share technique can improve students activeness to the ten grade students of SMA Bina Mandiri Teluk Pakedai. The research conducted this project in order to solve the problems encountered in the classroom.Since it is to improve students activeness in teaching learning process. The appropriate technique that was applied in this research is a classroom action research with the cycle of planning, acting, observing, and reflecting. The participant of this research is the students in ten grade students of SMA Bina Mandiri Teluk Pakedai in academic 2017/2018, which consist of 15 students.After collecting the data, the writer found out that the Think Pair Share technique was useful to students activeness. Based on students abservation, the researcher discovered a good mark that was shown by students activeness from cycle to cycle was increases. The students activeness in the first cycle was moderate. The students activeness in the second cycle was good.The finding of the classroom action research were satisfying. All the indicator of success had been fulfilled. The students activeness was increased and teaching learning become better. Think Pair Share helps students to improving the activeness. Key words: Think Pair Share, Activeness
