This study is aimed at understanding the approprietness of writing background of the study at proposal of reserach paper that covers (1) flow of writing, (2) problem presented in the background, (3) the purpose of doing the research. Type of this research is qualitative with documentation as data collection. Data are taken from English students research proposal 2014. Data collected are analysed descriptively by using technic componensial analysis, crossing between students works and theories of writing a good background of the study. The results of the study are the students still do not understand yet how the flow of writing background of the study. The students do not present the problems of the research clearly on the background of the study. The students do not explain why conducting the research.Â

Presentation, The Best Model for Teaching Speaking for Adults Students Budiyanto, S M.; Haryanto, Sigit

The aim of the research is to show that presentation is one of the best models for teaching speaking for Adult students. This research and development study consists of exploration, designing model draft, validating model, experts jugment, revising model, implementing model, data description, data analysis, findings and discussion, recommendation, revising, the final model and dissemination. Technique of data collection was obtained by using test, interview, and observation; Technique of data analyze for quantitative data used non independent t-test. The researcher also used descriptive statistic including highest, average, and lowest scores. To analyze the qualitative data, the researcher used trianggulation and flow model of analysis. The research results showed that The first model results showed that: it improved the students’ bravery to speak up in front of the audience and made a better condition of the students’ speaking environment. The second model results showed that the development of the students’ speaking ability growing up rapidly and their grammar and vocabulary also getting better. The Final Model results showed that there is very clear improvement on their bravery to speak up infront of the audience. Their learning progress and speaking ability grew up rapidly, theirgrammar and vocabulary also increased significantly. The computation result showed thatall of the results is higher than tt (2,02). It showed that Developing a model of teachingspeaking through presentationis good, suitable and accurate for teaching and improvingthe Students’ Speaking Ability of accounting education of UMS is proved correct andsignificant.

Nilai-Nilai Edukatif Dalam Tradisi Ujung: Kajian Etnografi Di Masyarat Boyolali Jawa Tengah Haryanto, Sigit

Cultural values always exist in the physical form of tradition. One of the traditions that have rich of values is ujung tradition. It is annual event held by most Javanese people. It has a correlation to lebaran fitr.Â The participants of this tradition are from children to old people. Visiting their parent, relative, and neighbor are compulsory activity.Â In addition to, they also utter forgiveness each other. The objective of this study is finding the values behind ujung tradition viewed from educative point. Ethnographic study was selected to conduct the research and participant observation was used to collect the data. Then the data were analyzed by using component analysis proposed by Spradlay.The results of the study showed that there five educative values inside the ujung tradition, namely: respect, togetherness, advice, pray, and charity.From this it is understood that ujung tradition is still run well in society due to many educative values that ought to be transferred.

Language, culture, and society are three things that cannot be separated. The intertwining among them are reflected in halal bi halal tradition. This annually tradition mainly uses Javanese language as a main central of social communication. Two common codes that used by the participants in conducting the event are krama and ngoko. The participants when choosing the codes, of course, are influenced by the social factors. Dealing with this, the aim of this study is finding the language choices use and the factors that affect the participants selecting the codes. This ethnographic study used participant observation in collecting the data. Then, the collected data were analyzed by theory of social dimension proposed by Holmes. The results of the study showed that (1) the language choices use are (a) Javanese krama, (b) Javanese ngoko, (c) mixture of Javanese and Arabic, (d) mixture of Javanese, and Arabic, and Indonesian, and (e) Indonesian and Indonesian and (2) the factors that affect the language choices are (a) the social relationship of the participants, (b) the setting of the event, (c) the formality of the vent, and (d0 the function for the event. As a conclusion, code choices that happen in halal bi halal tradition are commonly affected by social factor or nonlinguistic factor.

The aim of the research is to show that presentation is one of the best models for teaching speaking for Adult students.
