Abstract

Beliefs have been identified as an affect on the psychology of mathematics education. Additionally, representations play a paramount role in mathematics teaching and learning. However, few studies have examined prospective teachers' beliefs and their relationship to representations in problem-solving. The purpose of this study is to examine prospective mathematics teachers' beliefs and representations in solving word problems review from gender differences. This study involves 103 college students from the mathematics education department at a public university in Merauke Regency. The data were gathered using a questionnaire, a test, and in-depth interviews. A questionnaire was utilized to elicit the belief of prospective teachers. A test and interview were conducted to evoke data about participants' representations when solving word problems. The male student was found to be capable of arriving at a solution employing multiple representations. Due to the inaccurate representation constructed, the female student was unable to find the correct solution. This work implies that lecturers should heed prospective teachers' beliefs and generate representations of the focal point of classroom learning practice.

Abstract

Mathematics is an instrument for solving problems in life. So, ability to solve mathematical problems is one of the most important skills. Practitioners of education do different approaches to develop the mathematical problemsolving ability of students. Efforts have been made such as an attractive learning model and providing external motivation. Most students, however, were unable to finish and prepare to solve mathematical problems in daily life. This is due to the belief that mathematics is not linked with life, anxiety in solving non-routine problems, and feelings of complacency that contribute to low motivation for students. The aim of this research is to gain an overview of the mathematical problemsolving skills of students in terms of students' mathematical dispositions. This research method is qualitative with a case study approach and this research was carried out on 35 grade XI students from a high school in the district of Indragiri Hulu. This research showed that students with high mathematical dispositions were able to apply indicators of problemsolving steps well, students with moderate mathematical dispositions were not able to properly apply indicators of mathematical problemsolving steps, and students with low mathematical dispositions found it difficult to understand the given mathematical problems. So, we concluded that students with good mathematical dispositions can well apply indicators of mathematical problemsolving steps

Abstract

This study aims to identify the profile of STREM-based science writing skills in pre-service science teachers. The study was done using a descriptive method through a study of STREM-based science teaching materials documentation written by the pre-service science teachers. The target population is the seventh-semester students. Fifty people who are enrolled in the elective course of Integrated Science Learning were selected through Purposive Sampling. Performance assessment of the STREM-based science teaching materials was done using an analytical rubric with a score of 1-4 on the aspect of pedagogic, content, and context. Determination of inter-rater reliability was taken from 25 random samples of teaching materials and correlated their scores using Pearson's correlation. The inter-rater reliability score obtained is 0.938 in all aspects of teaching materials; 0.690 in the pedagogic aspect; 0.976 in the aspect of content; and 0.921 in the context aspect. The score of the teaching materials is then converted in the form of a percentage and interpreted based on certain criteria. The average score of pre-service science teachers' writing skills was 53.3% in the "good" criteria. The writing quality of teaching materials has not yet met the expected criteria from the pedagogic, content, and context aspects. Thus, it is important to develop appropriate learning strategies to improve the writing skills of STREM-based science teaching materials for pre-service science teachers.

Abstract

The results of tests conducted by PISA and TIMSS expose that students’ mathematics mastery in Indonesia included in low category. The students show difficulties in processing their thought and solving problems to understand mathematics concepts. By then, this study aims to analyze the students’ thinking process in solving mathematics matters. The researcher identified clearly and in detail about Self Regulated Thinking (SRT) for some students who had succeeded in solving math questions. The research design applied in the present study is case study. The data and data sources are the results of data test for eight grade 15 years old students. The results showed that the students basically have skills in monitoring their own thoughts, determining appropriate problem solving plans, identifying and using the existing learning sources, providing responses or feedback, and evaluating the effectiveness of their own actions. The students also expressed different styles in implementing self regulated thinking (SRT). Accordingly, mathematics teachers need to design mathematics lesson that provides opportunity for students to express and improve their thinking skills

Abstract

The cognitive level between teachers and students is clearly different in problem-solving. In the mathematics context, especially the function problem was only in geometric expression form, for knowledge construction and student's learning should use their cognitive level capacity. Not only the solving process is based on that, but also learning should be efficient for all students, and analyzing those processes is the purpose of identification inefficient issues in this study. This investigative study was held on three respondents purposively selected from a science program of senior high school in West Jakarta, Indonesia. This study found that in the solving process, all students chose to construct an algebraic representation of the function by organizing concepts relevant to fragmented conceptualization. The process has held to apply each concept procedurally. There has been a resource and that is one concept of the domain of function, so the completion is an inefficient process because all three students were ignoring it to use. All three process for solving to the student’s academic culture, most common for emphasizing in learning related to the problem and their cognitive capacity.

Abstract

With the implementation of some limited face-to-face learning, the effects of the COVID-19 epidemic have now started to significantly fade from education. This forces instructors to be creative so that children can still learn independently. Students who get inadequate online instruction generally behave passively when receiving offline instruction. To deal with the issues of 21st-century learning, technological use, the selection of interesting learning models, and media that are in line with the characteristics of the material, especially abstract material, are still necessary. To prepare students for real life and improve learning, technological application and the growth of student learning independently are important. The purpose of this study was to examine how media augmented with augmented reality helped students learn independently. There are up to 27 students in the seventh grade at SMPN 3 Rantau Bayur in this qualitative descriptive study. A student learning independence questionnaire was designed to collect data, and it was triangulated using learning observation sheets and teacher interviews. The three stages of the data analysis technique, according to Miles Huberman (1992), are data reduction, data presentation, and summary. The percentage technique was used to examine the learning independence data collected. As according statistics from the learning independence questionnaire, the average percentage in the medium category is 61 percent.

Abstract

Through the tagline “UKI HEBAT”, the Head of the University and his staff hope that educators, staff, and other workers, as well as students, understand what the purpose of their work plan is and make the character of UKI people become “HEBAT, and the Universitas Kristen Indonesia (UKI) becomes better. better than other universities. The background of this research is to see the influence of the tagline through the Psycholinguistics-Cybernetic model in providing a "self-image" of its workers and students and shaping their character to be "HEBAT". Psycholinguistics-Cybernetics is an interdisciplinary study, involving the disciplines of linguistics and psycho-cybernetics. The research sample is people in the UKI environment who had heard the tagline "UKI HEBAT" for at least 1 year. This research is quantitative research. Data was obtained by using a survey method using a questionnaire. This study used two variables, the independent variable in this study was the tagline of the Indonesian Christian University (UKI), "UKI HEBAT" which is symbolized by X. The dependent variable in this study was the awareness of the Indonesian Christian University (UKI) people on the tagline which is symbolized by Y. With the use of the tagline "UKI Great" it can be seen that there is a significant influence in character building among Indonesian Christian University (UKI) people. This result strengthens the Psycholinguistics-Cybernetics theory that character-forming speech is true.
