From the research data, it was found that the implementation of the Think Pair Share strategy was optimal, because the teacher had implemented all the procedures in teaching speaking. Although in implementing this strategy there are some difficulties faced by the teacher including there are students who do not convey or add when their friends share ideas in front of the class, there are students who are just silent, but when approached by the teacher to add he wants to add. In implementing this strategy, not all students can share their ideas in front of the class due to time constraints.

Abstract

Online Lectures are the main means of learning during the Covid-19 pandemic. It was unavoidable at that time, the campus was conducting online lectures from home due to the Covid-19 pandemic, but lecturers and students continued to conduct online-based lectures or Virtual Class through various applications, one of which was Zoom Meeting. The application of Zoom Meetings is still very common for students because usually lecturers teach face-to-face. The purpose of this article is to find out the effectiveness of implementing Virtual Class with Zoom Meetings in Indonesian language teaching evaluation lectures. The method used is quantitative in the form of filling out questionnaires through Google Forms for students of the Indonesian Language and Literature Education Study Program at PGRI West Sumatra University who are taking the Indonesian Language Teaching Evaluation course in the odd semester of 2021/2022 totaling 34 students. From the results of the descriptive survey, it was found that the Zoom Meeting was less effective in evaluating Indonesian language teaching, but it was effective in virtual classroom learning and could be used as an online learning application. So it can be concluded that students can still continue their lectures in a virtual class or indirectly by using a zoom meeting in the process of evaluating Indonesian language teaching evaluation lectures.

Abstract

The synectic model is the basis for increasing creativity. The synectic model in learning to write poetry is one of the right steps to research. Creativity is the basis for writing activities. Writing activities require high creativity in producing good and original writing. The ability to write is always a problem from time to time because bringing out the creativity that exists in a person is not easy, but a way is needed to foster that creativity. One of the steps is to use the synectic model in learning to write poetry. The synectic model that carries steps to think creatively on the basis of metaphors helps students grow their creativity in writing poetry. The synectic model in learning to write poetry is then juxtaposed with literary ecocriticism, the goal is to produce literary works that care about the surrounding environment. Submission of criticism of the environment in the form of poetry will make an interesting work. This type of research is quantitative with a quasi-experimental method using a control class and an experimental class.

Abstract

This article discusses Indonesian State Polytechnic students understanding and reasons towards silence and lack of oral participation in class. It is a qualitative case study conducted with two students from English study program. The authors conducted semi-structured interview and then analyzed the data using a constant comparisons method. Both students realize that they were one of the quietest students in the class. It is revealed that the causes of their silence are lack of speaking skills that related to their study program, shyness in the classroom and lack of background knowledge related with their fields. Their silence in classroom could not be interpreted as their unwillingness to contribute in class, rather than a process they should go through whenever they use English at class orally. Besides indicate the need to find a more suitable teaching approach to help students in class, this finding also suggest that teachers or lecturers need to understand the reason behind students’ silence better.

Abstract

There are no ending signs when it comes to the spreading of COVID-19 worldwide. The cases were increasing and have caused the students of Higher Education to have their studies to be carried out either in hybrid or blended learning. The COVID-19 during the pandemic had affected many sectors and industries and mainly the education industry. The education sector had faced many impacts. As for the higher education sector, the institution had led to factors such as academic stress, anxiety, loss of concentration, and frustration. Today, COVID-19 is still spreading worldwide and, in our country, as well. Malaysia declared it a pandemic in the early stages, but as time passed, Malaysia declared it an endemic. Blended learning would be among the options to pull through during the COVID-19 era, and it is also an alternative strategy to continue teaching and learning. Blended learning includes face-to-face and online teaching. This benefits the learners with dual instruction and learning strategies and this study shares and discusses the design of a blended learning course in teaching and learning language using the Blended Learning Model by Bath & Brouke (2010). The model contains five phases; planning, designing, implementing, reviewing, and improving. This model applies to the subject of Teaching the Malay Language. These courses were registered as required subjects with a total of 24 third-year students. During the planning phase, questionnaires were used to implement the quantitative methods. In the meantime, qualitative methods are used to analyse the document during design, implementation, review, and improvement. This study revealed a need for blended learning to balance the benefits of face-to-face and online learning. A hybrid learning environment gives students the privilege of understanding and exploring real-world problems through an authentic learning experience and facilitates the online learning experience. This study concludes that COVID-19 has changed instructor teaching strategies to make language teaching more effective. Abstract

Learning media plays a crucial role in the learning process. One of the popular learning media, which played a crucial role among elementary school students during the COVID-19 pandemic, is audio-visual media. This type of media engages both auditory and visual senses through the utilization of the CANVA application. Therefore, this research aims to develop an English language learning media through the CANVA application in Pekanbaru Elementary School, Indonesia. This research was conducted using the 4D development model, consisting of define, design, develop and disseminate stages. In the define stage, it was found that students still had relatively low learning outcomes, and teachers could not develop creative learning media. Meanwhile, in the design stage, the learning media based on the findings in the definition stage was designed. The learning media was assembled using the CANVA application in the development stage. The product test results in this development stage showed very good results. The media was packaged in CD form and distributed to several elementary school teachers in Pekanbaru to help them teach English.
