Abstract

Students have different characteristics both in gender and cognitive style. This difference also has an impact on students' mathematical abilities, especially mathematical connection abilities. Mathematical concepts are related to each other. Mathematical connection skills can help students to link between mathematical concepts so that students do not learn them separately. The purpose of this study is to describe the ability of students' mathematical connections in terms of cognitive and gender styles in the CONINCON learning model. This research is a mixed-method type sequential exploratory research, which is a sequential combination of qualitative to quantitative. The population of this study was all students of class VIII of SMP Negeri 18 Semarang. The subject of this research is class VIII D as the experimental class using the CONINCON learning model and class VIII C as the control class. Taking research subjects based on reflective & impulsive cognitive style categories and male & female. The results showed that the results of mathematical connection ability in terms of cognitive and gender styles varied. This is shown from the 8 students studied, namely 2 students in the reflective male category, 2 students in the reflective female category, 2 impulsive male students, and 2 impulsive female students.

Abstract

This research describes mathematics communication through Numbered Heads Together (NHT) with written corrective feedback based on the students' levels of mathematical habits of mind and the correlation between written and spoken mathematics communication ability. This research is a mixed method with sequential explanatory design. It is a combined design between quantitative and qualitative. The population consisted of seventh graders of Rembang 4 Junior High School. The findings showed that NHT with written corrective feedback was effective for mathematics communication ability and mathematical habits of mind. The description results of mathematics communication ability are based on different levels of mathematical habits of mind (MHoM). From three students with high, moderate, and low mathematics communication ability, they had scores of 1, 2, and 0. On the fifteen moderate MHoM students, those with high, moderate, and low mathematics communication ability had scores of 1, 14, and 0. On four low MHoM students, those with high, moderate, and low mathematics communication ability obtained scores of 1, 3, and 0.

Abstract

This research aims to describe learners' mathematical reasoning skills based on their personality types on the 9E learning cycle with kid-friendly rubrics. This research is mixed-method with a sequential explanatory design. The data collection of mathematical reasoning skills was done by using a test on four indicators. On the other hand, the data of personality types were taken by using KTS II inventory, documentation, and interview. The research subjects consisted of seventh graders of Private JHS Gema Buwana in 2020/2021. The findings showed that the learners' mathematics reasoning skills with guardian type could explain the model, fact, property, correlation, and pattern. These learners could use the correlation pattern to analyze the situation, create an analogy, and generalize. The artisan type could explain the model, fact, property, correlation, and pattern. They could create assumptions and evidence. The rational type could create a logical conclusion by explaining the model, fact, property, correlation, and pattern. They could also create assumptions and evidence, use the correlation pattern to analyze the situation, create an analogy, or generalize. On the other hand, the idealist type could explain the model, fact, property, correlation, and pattern. They could also make assumptions and evidence.

Abstract

Digital learning resources were indispensable in today's mathematics learning, both offline and online, to support abstract mathematical concepts and train critical thinking skills. This research was intended to produce web-based learning multimedia products with a contextual approach using Adobe Flash CS6 software to facilitate XI grade high school students' critical thinking skills and determine its feasibility. The research method was research and development (RnD) using the ADDIE (analysis, design, development, implementation, evaluation) model. The validation results of multimedia development products by material experts and media experts meet the valid criteria with an average score of 4.09. The practicality test by two teachers and six students showed an average score of 4.48 and was categorized as very practical. Evaluation of the practicality of implementing multimedia products found that the average critical thinking ability of students had exceeded the minimum completion limit, namely 64, and exceeded 75% of the number of students. The average difference test and the comparative proportion test showed that the students' critical thinking ability in the experimental class was better than in the control class. The results of this multimedia development could be feasible as a learning media because it meets the criteria of being valid, practical, and effective. Students' critical thinking skills increased after using multimedia with an average gain of 0.47. Abstract

Learning with a teacher-centered model had not been able to optimize students’ higher-order thinking ability. It made the students’ metacognition were not maximum especially dealing with the mathematical representation ability. This research aimed to describe the mathematics representation ability based on the metacognitive categories. This research applied a combination method of sequential explanatory with regression test for the quantitative data. The results showed the metacognition influenced mathematics representation ability. Students with reflective use categories could identify and analyze the questions properly. They could also evaluate the answers although some of them did not write the questions into correct mathematics sentences. Students with strategic use categories could identify and analyze the questions properly but they did not evaluate their answers. Students with aware use could identify but they were a lack in analyzing and evaluating. Then, students with the tacit use category were not found. Teachers should direct the students with more development and counseling in a personal manner to overcome the gaps.

Abstract

Abstract

Avian influenza is a disease caused by H5N1 virus type A. The spreading process of avian influenza caused by wild poultry migration. Avian influenza is transmitted from poultry to poultry and from poultry to humans through saliva, mucus of nose and feces. The disease can cause death for humans with high mortality. Deaths due to infection avian influenza virus can be avoided by giving treatment for humans and burning infected poultry. Therefore, considering how dangerous avian influenza disease for humans, it is very necessary for humans to study this disease, one of them with a mathematical model of avian influenza. We analyzed the existence of the equilibrium point of the model and its stability analysis of the equilibrium point. The simulation gives results to validate the interpretation of analytic and numerical results from the analysis process.
