Abstract

As a one of the heritage cities in Indonesia, Baubau has many historical heritages which are not only created by local ethnics but also by immigrants. There are three historical landscapes created by the immigrants like China Town by Chinese, Waliabuku by Bugisnese, and Ngkaring-Ngkaring by Balinese. Until now, proper management to preserve the landscapes does not exist and it remains unknown whether this phenomenon is caused by the public perception who think that historical landscapes of immigrants as an unimportant heritage. The objective of this study is to investigate the public perception of historical landscapes that are created by immigrant in Baubau city as an heritage city in Indonesia. The results of survey show that the public regard all historical landscapes must be preserved. However, the landscapes created by the ethnic of Chinese have the lowest degree of public selection as compared to the ethnics of Bali and Bugis. The situation is triggered by the stereotype on the ethnic of Chinese which state that they tend to be more closed and reserved.

Abstract

Baubau is appointed as one of heritage cities in Indonesia because it has many historical inheritances. Although Baubau becomes an autonomous region in 2001, some historical records show that  the city has been existed long time ago and passed some phases. One of those phases is the development era by the Dutch Indies Government.  There are many inheritances from colonial period in the city even it is called as the largest in the Province of Southeast Sulawesi. Unfortunately, there are not many research and inventory by related stakeholders toward the colonial heritages in the city. This research aims to record or to list of current assets and to analyze the landscape characteristics of colonial heritages  located in Baubau. The result shows that there are four historical landscapes which save the colonial heritage objects namely the colonial ladscape and early independence day (51 objects), Palabusa (4 objects), Wakonti (1 object), and Chinatown (5 objects). The character  which constructs of the three landscapes generally consist of buildings, structures, and monuments with art deco style.

Abstract

Ciliwung riverbank has been affected by settlement occupation. Both concrete and another retaining wall system have been built to avoid flood and erosion to the settlement that has existed adjacent to the river. Built environment as human disturbance can trigger the change of species richness of ground vegetation in the Ciliwung riverbank of Bogor City. The research objective is to study the difference of ground vegetation biodiversity in three different types of riverbank based on its condition: natural, semi-natural, and constructed riverbanks. Point method and photographic sampling are used. Five replications of a square metre plot at three transects were placed at four sites sampling along 250 m each from the three different types of riverbank. Images of the plots are trained using sample point to overcome the difficulties in the field observation and statistical analysis. The result discovered that species richness in the natural riverbank is significantly higher than in semi-natural and constructed riverbank. Yet, no significance of species richness is shown between semi-natural and constructed riverbank. Total species of ground vegetation that we found were 55 species. Each different type of riverbank has its own highest species coverage: Asystasia nemorum (55.00%) in the natural riverbank, Pilea nummulariifolia (33.07%) in the semi-natural riverbank, and Pogonatherum crinitum (52.80%) in the constructed riverbank. The study concluded that the construction in the riverbank largely altered the biodiversity of ground vegetation in the urban riverbank. The outcomes suggest that the remnant of natural riverbank in the urban landscape should be highly protected from urban development to preserve its biodiversity. Also, species found could be potentially developed as landscape plants to support urban river planning, design, and management.

Abstract

The objective of the research was to study the impact of agro-tourism on production of tea bud. The experiment was conducted at Gunung Mas Tea Plantation, Bogor, from June 2004 to March 2005. Blocks 3, 5, 8, 10 and 17 at Gunung Mas I afdeling represented area with agro-tourism activity and blocks 3, 7, and 10 at South Cikopo I afdeling represented area without agro-tourism activity. Site selection was based on plant variety, age of cutting, tea walk track (0, 4, 6, and 10 km), and elevation height (800, 900, and 1000 m above sea level). The result shows that agro-tourism activity decreases production of tea bud. When the number of visitors increased, production of tea bud decreased because the pluckers were absent during the plucking time. The positive impacts of agro-tourism are improvement in plantation management, especially in productive plants, and existing additional income. Gunung Mas Tea Plantation especially Gunung Mas I afdeling which runs agro-tourism should limit the number of visitors and there must be a cross subsidy from agro-tourism to agro-industry sectors.   Key words :  Agro-tourism, productivity of tea shoots, afdeling, plucking.

Abstract

Land use changes from Malaleuca cajuputi swamp forest ecosystem to agriculture production area and settlement land decrease habitat of proboscis monkeys. The habitat position at the edge of the river and high accessibility caused faster habitat damage. In addition, forest fires occurred in 2015 has caused significant losses of flora and fauna biodiversity in the area. In order to know the type of plants in the study site, the vegetation analysis was conducted. The study site consisted of 19 species of lower plant and 4 types of trees. Dominant species and codominant of study site are widely distributed, indicating the existence of competition in obtaining nutrients and space. At the under storey plant level was dominated by Stenochlaena palustris and Scirpus grossus at the locations A and B whereas at location C was dominated by the Eleocharis dulcis and Jussieua erecta. In the types of trees, the dominant trees were Melaleuca cajuputi, Muntingia sp, Alstonia angustifolia, Shorea balangeran, and Albizia falcataria. In all three locations, there were low similarity values in the plant species below, the level of seedlings, and samplings.

Abstract

Integrated agroindustry and agrotourism is an opportunity to develop the rural economics in Kali Bekasi watershed. The objective of this research was to develop a sustainable integrated system of agroindustry and agrotourism. The metodhs used for this study included analytical hierarchy process (AHP), Bayes method, and exponential comparison method (ECM). The results showed that top upstream watershed of Kali Bekasi was selected as the best location for the project. Five products of agroindustry, namely rice flour, tapioca, bamboo furniture, banana chips, and ground coffee were selected as the priority to be developed with three scenarios of tourist attractions, i.e: cultivation, harvesting/post-harvesting, and processing. Integration of the project was economically feasible with IRR of 31%, Net B/C of 1.95, and the total revenue from all tourist attractions of Rp 36, 905,000 per week. The weekly added values of agroindustry for each tourist attraction were Rp 11.760.000, Rp12.546.000, and Rp 12.563.000 respectively. The involvement of stakeholders including farmer associations, NGO, local youth organization (Karang Taruna), financing institution, SMEs, and local government is essentially required to implement this project with a community-based development approach. Keywords: agroindustry, agrotourism, watershed, AHP, Bayes method, MPE

Abstract

This research reveals visitor perceptions of climate comfort in nature-based tourism areas in Indonesia. We combined a survey and modeling to calculate the comfort score based on Tourism Climate Index (TCI) and Holiday Climate Index (HCI) in three tourism sites of Ecopark Ancol, Bogor Botanical Garden, and Cibodas Botanical Garden. During the survey, we collected data on climate comfort perceptions and the role of the weather on the comfort. Totally, 793 respondents of tourism visitors participated in the study. Our results showed that almost all of visitors (>95%) stated that the weather affected the climate comfort. Interestingly, the weather condition did not influence on the decisions where the tourism site to visit. The level of perceived climate comfort for the sites were neutral (Ecopark, 57.3%), and comfortable (Bogor Botanical Garden, 60%; Cibodas Botanical Garden, 78.4%). Then by modeling we obtained the best method to calculate the comfort based on the following index: (i) TCI with Physiological Equivalent Temperature (PET) Tianjin for Ecopark (57.2), (ii) HCI for Bogor Botanical Garden (59), and (iii) HCI with PET Tianjin for Cibodas Botanical Garden (77.6). Further, perception on climate comfort was significantly difference among sex, age, and education level of the visitors. In warmer environmental condition, the older people and women feel more comfortable. Our finding revealed that topography was weak correlated with comfort perception. By understanding visitor perceptions, strategies and appropriate actions can be developed to increase comfort in the nature-based tourism industry.
