Abstract

Water color intensity is associated with topsoil concentration. The lower color intensity the lower topsoil concentration, pH and temperature. Peat water characteristic were determined by accumulation of    Natural Organic Matter.  The study was conducted on November 2017 to February 2018 in Health Laboratory of   North Sumatera by using 3 samples of peat water to find out characteristics of peat water bacteria. Isolated bacteria were analysed by macroscopic and microscopic examination. The result showed that the bacteria have various morphology and motility. Based on characteristics, sp1 was suspected to be in the group of Staphylococcus genus while sp2 and sp3 were belong to the Escherichia genus.

Abstract

Lactic acid bakteria have characteristics that are able to ferment sugars or carbohydrates and produce lactic acid as the final product of fermentation. The purpose of this research was to isolates the lactic acid bacteria from the digestive tract of tilapia fish and to investigate the inhibitory power produced by lactic acid bacteria in inhibiting the growth of Staphylococcus aureus and Shigella sp. Isolation of lactic acid bacteria was done by using MRSA medium and to see the ability of lactic acid bacteria isolates in inhibiting the growth of Staphylococcus aureus and Shigella sp then used disc diffusion method. The isolates obtained were then characterized by morphology and biochemistry. From the research obtained two lactic acid bacteria that is sp1 and sp2. Lactic acid bacteria sp1 and sp2 are able to inhibit Staphylococcus aureus and Shigella sp with the biggest inhibition to Staphylococcus aureus by sp2 of 8.75 mm and the biggest inhibition of Shigella sp is shown by sp2 that is equal to 7.16 mm. Based on the results of isolation and characterization done in this research can be concluded that lactic acid bacteria of the digestive tract of fish tilapia sp1 and sp2 capable in inhibiting Staphylococcus aureus with a the number of 8.75 mm and Shigella sp with a of 7.16 mm.

Abstract

Refilled drinking water is one of the alternatives for the need of drinking water. Drinking water is safe for health when it meets physical, microbiological, chemical, radioactive requirements. The purpose of this study was to determine the quality of refilled drinking water with microbiological parameters (coliform dan E. coli) in the Berngam Village of Binjai city in 2018. The method of this research was descriptive research with laboratory tests. The research sample is the entire population of refill drinking water depots located in the Berngam Village of Binjai City in 2018. The results of the study showed that seven samples of refilled drinking water in the Berngam Urban Village had fulfilled the physical and chemical quality in according to them Permenkes R.I. No.492/Menkes/Per/IV/2010. While the quality of microbiology has not been fulfilled because it contains coliform and E. coli bacteria. It is recommended that the Puskesmas management provide counseling and monitoring for the owners of refilled drinking water depots in order to realize qualified drinking water for people.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the comparison of hemoglobin levels in patients with aplastic anemia who are transfused using fresh blood and save blood in H. Adam Malik General Hospital Medan. This study was conducted descriptively by comparing the results of the increase in post-transfusion hemoglobin levels using fresh blood and save blood in patients with aplastic anemia. The results showed that the average value of hemoglobin in patients with aplastic anemia before being transfused with fresh donor blood was 6.4 gr/dL, increasing to  8.9  gr/dL, while the  average value of  hemoglobin levels in  patients with aplastic anameia before transfusion of save blood is 6.8 gr/dL increased after transfusion to 7.9 gr/dL. It can be concluded that blood transfusion using fresh blood is better than storing blood transfusion in increasing hemoglobin levels in patients with aplastic anemia, with an average percentage increase in fresh blood of 38.0% and donor save blood an average of 17.4%.

Abstract

Penelitian tentang Pemanfaatan Telur Keong Emas (Pamacea canalicula) Sebagai Media Pertumbuhan Bakteri  Staphylococcus, E.  coli  dan  Lactobacillus dilakukan untuk  mengetahui pertumbuhan bakteri pada media telur keong emas. Metode penelitian yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah  metode deskriptif. Penelitian ini terdiri dari tiga tahapan yaitu a) Pembuatan media telur keong emas, b) Penanaman Koloni Bakteri  Staphylococcus, Lactobacillus dan E.coli pada Media Telur Keong Emas dan c) Pewarnaan Gram Pada Biakan Bakteri Staphylococcus, Lactobacillus dan E.coli   dalam media telur keong emas. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa untuk bakteri E.coli, dan Staphylococcus ditemukan adanya tanda-tanda pertumbuhan bakteri baik secara fisik terlihat adanya perubahan warna, kekeruhan serta terdapat buih pada media  dan mikroskopis terlihat adanya bakteri pada slide yang telah diwarnai dengan pewarnaan gram. Tetapi untuk bakteri Lactobacillus tidak ditemukan tanda-tanda pertumbuhan bakteri baik secara fisik dan mikroskopis. Maka dapat disimpulkan bahwa telur keong emas memiliki potensi sebagai media pertumbuhan bakteri E.coli dan Staphylococcus

Abstract

Pepaya  (Carica  papaya) merupakan tanaman yang dimanfaatkan sebagai obat alternatif, mulai dari bagian akar, batang, daun, dan buah.  Karena diketahui mengetahui mengandung senyawa tanin yang memiliki aktifitas antibakteri terhadap beberapa jenis bakteri phatogen seperti Shigella, Salmonella thypii, dan Eschericia coli. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui efektivitas ekstrak biji pepaya dalam menghambat pertumbuhan Shigella dysentriae. Penelitian ini bersifat eksperimental dengan menggunakan metode Rancangan acak lengkap satu faktor dan metode difusi. Konsentrasi ekstrak biji buah pepaya yang digunakan yaitu 10%, 20%, 30%, 40% dengan 5 kali pengulangan. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa ekstrak biji buah pepaya dengan masing-masing konsentrasi tersebut mampu menghambat pertumbuhan bakteri Shigella dysentriae. Tidak ada perbedaan yang nyata antara konsentrasi 40%, 30%,  dan  20%,  sehingga  konsentrasi 20% merupakan konsentrasi  paling efektif.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the active ingredients contained in papaya leaf extract (Carica papaya) and white turmeric extract (Curcuma zedoaria) and their antimicrobial activity against Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus epidermidis. This research was conducted using experimental methods at the Laboratory of Molecular Biology, Faculty of Medicine, University of Prima Indonesia. The research data were analyzed using a completely randomized design approach. Papaya leaf extract and white turmeric were made at different concentrations of 25%, 50%, 75% and 100% and the positive control was the antibiotic chloramphenicol (2 g). The results showed that papaya leaf extract contains active compounds of flavonoids, alkaloids, terpenoids and saponins. While white turmeric extract contains flavonoids, steroids, tannins and saponins. Papaya leaf extract 100% is the best treatment to suppress the growth of bacteria Echerichia coli and Staphylococcus epidermidis with an average inhibition of 14,110 mm and 14,707 mm, respectively. The administration of 100% white turmeric extract was the best treatment to suppress the growth of E. coli and S. epidermidis with an average inhibition of 14,307 mm and 13,743 mm, respectively.

Abstract

Pandan Wangi (Pandanus amaryllifolius) is a plant that grows in the tropics and is known to contain antioxidants. Pandan Wangi can be a garden plant or deliberately planted in the yard. The preparations made in this study were pandan extract peel-off gel masks with varying concentrations of polyvinyl alcohol (PVA). PVA is a water-soluble eco-friendly polymer. This study aims to determine the effect of PVA concentration on the physical quality of peel off gel mask preparations of fragrant pandan leaf extract. The research was conducted using laboratory experimental methods. Three gel peel off mask preparation formulas were used in the study, namely FI (5% PVA), FII (10% PVA) and FIII (15% PVA). Parameters for observing the quality of the peel off gel mask preparations included organoleptic tests, namely changes in aroma, color and shape as well as viscosity. The results showed that after a storage period of 28 days, the physical quality of the pandan leaf extract peel-off gel mask was still good. The mask preparation is characterized by a pale yellow color, smells of fragrant pandan extract and has a soft texture. Variation of PVA concentration affected the viscosity of the pandan leaf extract gel mask preparation.
