Abstract

Dengue control efforts have not provided adequate results. Therefore we need other measures like sterile in-sect Technique (SIT). This study aimed to observe the level of egg sterility and age of Aedes aegypti mosqui-toes after using SIT in Ngaliyan Semarang. The method of this research is a descriptive study with a cross-sectional design. A sample of the mosquitoes eggs are all the mosquitoes eggs on the paper trap in every house of RW2 population in Ngaliyan village. These samples are the result of the fertilization of male and female mosquitoes in nature. Data analysis using Wilcoxon sign test. The result showed that the average of egg sterility percentage in mosquitoes after using SIT indoors was 73.65% and the average of egg sterility per-centage outdoors was 69.08%. Wilcoxon test showed significant differences in average age of mosquitoes egg (p < 0.05), males pupae (p < 0.05), females pupae (p < 0.05), and adult female mosquitoes (p < 0.05), before and after SIT. It can conclude from this research that the SIT release in Ngaliyan village Semarang city could increase the level of sterility mosquito’s eggs and a decrease of the age of Ae. aegypti mosquitoes in this area.

Abstract

Abstract: Cilacap City is an endemic area of dengue fever and in 2020 Tambakreja Village was one of the contributors to high dengue cases with an IR of 150,4/100,000 population. Ovitrap filled with straw attractants can monitor well the density of Aedes sp. because it emits carbon dioxide (CO2) and a characteristic odor emanating from ammonia that is attractive to mosquitoes. The purpose of this study was to determine the population density of Aedes sp. by the ovitrap method of modification of straw soaking water attractants. Methods: Field experimental research using a descriptive approach. Samples of 20 housing units using purposive sampling techniques. Data were obtained from the calculation of eggs trapped in ovitrap and the identification of larvae. Result: The number of eggs obtained is 1458 eggs, with an index of 31.25% (medium category). Aedes aegypti larvae were found more with a percentage of 66.1% than Aedes albopictus larvae with a percentage of 33.9%. Conclusion: The population of Aedes aegypti is more found in ovitrap inside the house with a percentage of 94.3%, while Aedes albopictus in ovitrap outside the home with a percentage of 53.4%. The Health Office and local communities should immediately carry out control by eliminating potential breeding sites and controlling using larvicides. Keywords: Straw Soaking Water, Ovitrap, Aedes aegypti, Aedes albopictus, Cilacap

Abstract

Background: Several regions in Indonesia are classified as leptospirosis endemic including Klaten Regency, which ranked 2nd highest case of leptospirosis in Central Java in 2018. Leptospirosis in human was transmitted by animals infected by the Leptospira bacteria, which rat was the main reservoir. This study aimed to identify rat reservoir to the existence of Leptospira bacteria in endemic areas. Methods: This study was an observational survey  with cross sectional approach. The sample was rats caught by traps installed for 6 days in Dukuh Kalitengah, Kalitengah Village, Wedi Subdistrict, Klaten Regency in July 2019. The rats were identified and dissected to take their kidneys for laboratory testing using the Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) test to identity the existence of Leptospira bacteria.Result: The result showed that there were 17 rats and 6 Suncus murinus caught in 6 days and their species were Mus musculus (23.5%), Rattus tanezumi (41.2%), Rattus norvegicus (35.3%). The results of PCR test found 2 positive samples of Leptospira bacteria in Rattus tanezumi. Rattus tanezumi's habitat was close with humans in settlement areas where it can be a source of Leptospira infection and can spread to humans and other environments. Conclusion : The people in Dukuh Kalitengah are recommended to maintain the hygiene of their environment and improve their house’s sanitation so it not become nest and breeding grounds and also reduce the existence of rats.
