Abstract

Dyslipidemia is a major cause of morbidity, mortality and high cost of treatment. Dyslipidemia associated with coronary heart disease (CHD), which causes 4 million deaths every year. Estrogen, a hormone produced by women during menarche protect women from coronary heart disease. The decrease of estrogen production during menopause periode, higher the risk of dyslipidemia and coronary heart disease. Phytoestrogen therapy used to prevent dyslipidemia and coronary heart disease during menopause. hytoestrogens are estrogen-like compounds found in plants. Phytoestrogenic effects of Boehmeria nivea, which was used in this study, mainly contributed by isoflavone and lignan compounds. The purpose of this study was to prove the ability of ethanolic extract of root of Boehmeria nivea (EBN) to increase uterine weight and improve dyslipidemia on ovariectomized mice using a quasi-experimental with post test only design of research. Ovariectomized female rats were given an atherogenic diet of 3.5 cc egg yolk each day with an intravenous injection of 0.006 mg/200 gBB adrenaline. There are 6 groups consisting of a negative control, ovariectomized group, variectomized and atherogenic diet group, group with treatment of Boehmeria nivea (EBN) dose 125 mg/kg, 250 mg/kg, and 500 mg/kg. The results shows that there is a decrease of uterine weight on ovariectomized group compare to control group. Treatment of EBN increase uterine weight, decrease the levels of blood cholesterol and increase the levels of blood triglyceride. It can be concluded that fitoestrogen content of EBN improve lipid profile in ovariectomized rats.

Abstract

Treatment of cancer such as surgery, radiotherapy and chemotherapy have many side effects such as cardiotoxicity, hepatotoxicity, and immunosuppressant, therefore selective cochemopreventive agent is needed. Awar-awar (Ficus septica) is a traditional medicinal plant that is known as a potential cancer chemopreventive agent. The purpose of this study was to determine the cytotoxic effect of ethanolic leaves extract of awar-awar (EFs) against 4T1 and MCF7/HER2 breast cancer cells; WIDR colon cells cancer, HeLa cervix cells cancer, and Vero normal cells. The cytotoxic test was performed by MTT assay. The parameter obtained from the cytotoxic test was IC50. Selectivity index was determined from IC50 ratio of cancer cells to normal cells Vero. The results showed that EFs has a cytotoxic activity on cancer cell line with IC50 61,2 µg/mL on 4T1; 48 µg/mL on MCF7/HER2; 122,4 µg/mL on Hela; 75,9 µg/mL on WiDR; and 394,8 µg/mL on Vero. It can be concluded that EFs has high selectivity on various cancer cells with selectivity index more than 3.

Abstract

Tuberculous lymphadenitis may cause weight loss and lead to malnutrition in children. This study analyzes the correlation between tuberculous lymphadenitis and nutritionalstatus in children. It was an analytic observational study with a cross-sectional design. The population was pediatric patients under 18 years old with lymphadenitis, outpatientand inpatient admitted from January 2018 to December 2020 in dr. Soebandi publichospital, Jember, Indonesia. The samples were 76 respondents with total sampling. There were 52 tuberculosis lymphadenitis patients in the case group, while 24 were non-tuberculosis in the control group. The body weight data was from the medical record when the first diagnosis of lymphadenitis. Instruments were weight-for-age z-scorecurves (WHO, 2007) for under 60 months old children, while CDC Growth Charts 2000for more than five-year-old children. Then, data analysis used the Chi-square test.Mostly, tuberculous lymphadenitis patients were girls (65.4%), 12-17 years old (67.3%),not underweight (61.5%), and lived in rural areas (73%). Furthermore, all of them weregiven isoniazid, rifampicin, and pyrazinamide. In addition, 100% of them had successfultreatment. Meanwhile, most of the non-tuberculous lymphadenitis patients were boys(54.2%), 6-11 years old (58.3%), lived in the rural areas (79%), and were notunderweight (66.7%). Treatment of the non-tuberculous lymphadenitis group consistedof antibiotics, analgesics, vitamins, and symptomatic medicine. The Chi-square testresults obtained p=0.667 (p>0.05). In conclusion, tuberculosis lymphadenitis in theearly incubation period

Abstract

Cervical cancer is still become main health problem especially in development country. This cancer is the second most common cancer in Indonesian women. It commonly caused by infection of Human Papillomavirus (HPV) type 16 and 18. Actually if cervical cancer was detected earlier, it shows better respond therapy than other cancers, but this opportunity is not supported by appropiate screening methods. Nowadays, pap smear and IVA are commonly used for detect cervical cancer but they only recommend for women who have had sexual intercourse. Both of them also require medical expertise and pap smear is highly cost. Based on these problem, this paper describes novel method for cervical cancer screening by using rapid immunochromatography kit which is more applicative, noninvasive, and affordable. This paper was a literature review (library research). Data obtained through the search engine using keywords: "Cervical Cancer", "HPV", "Urine", "Screening", “Lateral flow test”, and "Rapid immunochromatography". The references were taken from reliable journal in the range of 2009 to 2019. Data was also taken from textbooks and the health institution official sites which support the analysis. This method detect the presence of oncoprotein E6 & E7 of HPV-16 and HPV-18 in urinusing antigen-antibody binding principle. Sensitivity and specificity test done by comparing the results of the kit with the results of pap smear tests as a standard screening method and PCR HPV test on urinsamples. We conclude that with further protocol development and standardization to achieve clinical sensitivity, this kit is a solution for noninvasive detection of high risk cervical cancer so that treatment can be do immediately and the mortality rate due to cervical cancer can be reduced as much as possible.

Abstract

Surgical site infection (SSI) is a microbial infection of the surgical wound within 30 days of operation or one year after surgery if an implant is placed in a patient. The incidence level of postoperative orthopedic SSI range to 71%. An increase in antibiotic-resistant bacteria causes the treatment of postoperative orthopedic surgical wound infections to be less effective, so there is an increase in morbidity, mortality, length of stay, and economic burden on hospital resources.Antibiogram were used to guidethe clinician and pharmacist selectedthe best empiric antimicrobial treatment in the event of pending microbiology culture and susceptibility results to overcome the disadvantages of antibotic-resistant bacteria. This study aimed to form a postoperative orthopedic SSI antibiogram of dr. Soebandi Hospital in Jember City, East Java, Indonesia which can be used as a reference to rational therapy. This study used a descriptive observational study research design with medical records from January – December 2019.A total of 34 isolates were found from 33 patients who did a culture examination. Of the 34 isolates, 25 were found to be positive for bacterial growth, while nine were negative. Twenty-two bacteria were Gram-negative and others were Gram-positive. The bacteria were tested against beta-lactam and non-beta lactam antibiotics. From antibiogram, showed that Gram-negative bacteria sensitive to the meropenem and resistant to cefotaxime. While, gram-positive bacteria showed sensitivity to doxycycline and resistant to erythromycin and penicillin.
