Abstract

Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui ada atau tidaknya pengaruh live music terhadap daya tarik pengunjung di 1 Million Coffee Shop Tondano dan seberapa besar pengaruhnya. Untuk mencapai tujuan dipergunakan alat pengambilan data berupa kuesioner dan digunakan metode kuantitatif untuk mempermudah penghitungan dan untuk menganalisis data, menguji hipotesis dan mengetahui seberapa besar pengaruh yang ditimbulkan digunakan analisis korelasi sederhana dari Pearson dan diolah secara kualitatif.Berdasarkan analisis, dicapai kesimpulan yaitu terdapat pengaruh yang signifikan antara live music dengan daya tarik pengunjung di 1 Million Coffee Shop Tondano. Hal ini ditunjukan oleh nilai koefisien korelasinya sebesar 0,933 dengan taraf signifikan 5% sehingga hipotesis yang menyatakan adanyapengaruh yang signifikan antara live music terhadap daya tarik pengunjung di 1 Million Coffee Shop Tondano diterima. Sedangkan besarnya pengaruh yang ditimbulkan karena live music terhadap daya tarik pengunjung adalah sebesar 87% dan sisanya dipengaruhi oleh faktor yang lain.

Abstract

The aim of this research is to discover the existence, the average level, and the most common type of foreign language speaking anxiety on college students. The approach of this research is quantitative. The research is conducted at the English Education Department of Universitas Negeri Manado. The population of the respondents of this research is the 6th semester students of the English Education Department of Universitas Negeri Manado. The sample consists of 20 respondents of the 6th semester students chosen using the random sampling process. The research instrument that the writers use in this study is the Foreign Language Speaking Anxiety Scale (FLSAS). The finding of this research shows that all of the respondents have experienced symptoms of speaking anxiety and have an average level of 90,3 for speaking anxiety. It is also found that the cause for foreign language speaking anxiety on most of the students is test anxiety. The result of the research suggests that the 6th semester students of the English Education Department of Universitas Negeri Manado have speaking anxiety with an average level of Moderate, and the most common type of speaking anxiety was Test Anxiety.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui bagaimana penerapan styledalam permainan alat musik Kolintang. Hal ini dikarenakan instrumen musik Kolintang Kayu memiliki teknik permainan yang khas di mana instrumen musik Kolintang Kayu ini merupakan instrumen perkusi Melodi yang dibunyikan dengan cara dipukul menggunakan stik. Hingga saat ini semua orang mengetahui bahwa Kolintang adalah genre musik yang berasal dari Minahasa, akan tetapi bagaimana cara penerapan style dalam orkestrasi musik Kolintang, hingga saat ini belum ada satu tulisan pun yang ada dan mengulasnya secara ilmiah. Permasalahan yang menjadi perhatian utama adalah bagaimana penerapan style dalam orkestrasi Ansambel musik Kolintang Kayu Minahasa. Metode yang digunakan adalah metode kualitatif dengan pendekatan Musikologi. Pengumpulan data dilakukan dengan cara observasi, wawancara dan dokumentasi. Berdasarkan hal-hal di atas maka dengan ini peneliti mengambil kesimpulan bahwa style-styleyang digunakan dalam musik Kolintang sama dengan style-style pada umumnya, tetapi harus dibenahi dan lebih dikembangkan lagi agar komposisi dalam musik Kolintang tidak terdengar monoton dan biasabiasa saja. Tetapi lebih modern dengan menggunakan style-style yang sudah ada atau baru ada.

Abstract

The aim of this research is To find out Ethan’s character development portrayed through his characteristics in the novella.In this study, the writer employed qualitative research in which the data gathered in form of words and quotations. In analysing this novel, the writer applies objective approach because this analysis will be only focused on the literary work itself without looking at the external aspects of the literary work. It means that the writer only pay attention to the internal parts of the story in the novel. The result of this research shows that Ethan character development are influenced by people around him, in this case, Zeena and Mattie. He experience a view of changes of his character; hopeful into hopeless, responsible into irresponsible, faithfulness into unfaithful, and happiness into unhappiness.

Abstract

This study aims to reveal students’ perception toward the use of google translate in translating at English Education Department, Universitas Negeri Manado. This research was a quantitative research and descriptive method is applied. A questionnaire that consists of 17 items was used as an instrument to collect the data. The questionnaire employed Likert scale. The sample was 30 eighth semester students of English Education Department Universitas Negeri Manado. The collected data were quantitative and analysed with percentage formula. Based on the findings, almost all statements received positive responses from the respondents. There were 2 statements that had higher responses which number 1 and 6. There were 93.3% of respondents agreed that they were interested in translating activity and used google translate as a media in translating, furthermore 80% of respondents agreed that they can translate easier using google translate. It means that the 8th semester students of English Education Department in Universitas Negeri Manado like the activity of translating and they do the translation easier using Google Translate. In addition, the average of the positive response in the other questionnaire items were above 50%. on the other hand, 40.3% of the respondents disagreed about the statement “google translate can translate paragraph by paragraph effectively”, 60% of respondents agreed that google translate made them lazy to open dictionary. Thus it can be concluded that google translate was helpful in translating especially translating English to Indonesian, furthermore the students are suggested to re-check the result of google translate and to not rely totally on it.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to find the hyperbole and to reveal the meaning of the hyperbole in “Moana” movie. The researcher used qualitative research in conducting the research. The data are collected from the primary source, that is the Moana movie. In analyzing the data, the researcher used the steps as follow 1). Organizing and familiarizing, 2) coding and reducing, 3) interpreting and representing. The result of this research proved that there are so many hyperboles in Moana movie. The researcher found twenty eight (28) hyperbolic expression. It can be classified into eight (8) Single word hyperbole, six (6) Pharsal hyperbole, five (5) clausal hyperbole, one (1) numerical hyperbole, five (5) the role of superlative, and four (4) repetition. Based on analysis the researcher found that the forms of hyperbole expression most dominantly used in Moana movie there were single word hyperbole eight (8) data.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan sikap berbahasa mahasiswaBatak Karo yanga kuliah di Universitas Negeri Manado. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah metode deskriptif kualitatif, unsurpenelitian data menggunakan teknik pengumpulan data berupa angket.Penelitian ini menganalisis mengenai sikap berbahasa mahasiswa Batak Karo yang kuliah di Universitas Negeri Manado, Sikap positf yang mencakup kesetian bahasa dan kebanggan bahasa yang menunjukan sikap 74% sikap positif dan 26% sikap negatif. Peneliti berharap agar terus melestarikan dan mempertahankan Bahasa Batak Karo dan memiliki kesadaran diri untuk tetap menjaga, melastarikan, mempertahankan Bahasa Batak Karo.

Abstract

The purpose of the study is to describe readability of reading texts in textbook, ‘Pathway to English’ for SMA/MA Grade X’ published by Erlangga. The study is a quantitative content analysis. The source of the data was the textbook, and only reading texts with minimally 150 words in length were taken as the sample. 22 reading texts that matched the criteria were analyzed quantitatively in percentage form. Result of the data analysis shows that reveals that 9 (or 41%) reading texts match tenth grade level, but the rest, 4 (or 18%) reading texts are to easy, at 7th-8th grade level. and 9 (or 41%) reading texts are are fairly difficult to difficult, at 11th-16th grade level. Put it another way, 59% reading texts with minimally 150 words in length selected for use in EFL textbook ‘Pathway to English’ published by Penerbit Erlangga in 2016 were not in accordance with tenth grade SMA students’ readability level. In addition, It was also found that the data show that readability level of a text do not depend on text length.

Abstract

This research aimed to see the effectiveness of using Wordlist plus picture in increasing students’ stock of vocabulary at the seventh grade of SMP Negeri 2 Tenga. This research used pre- experimental designed with one group pre-test and post-test. The result of this research found that Wordlist plus picture was effective in increasing students’ stock of vocabulary. The result showed that post-test was higher than pre-test. The mean score of pre-test was 5.00 and the mean score of post-test is 7.25 which means that the result of the post-test is higher than the pre-test. It can be stated that the students’ stock of vocabulary at the seventh grade of SMP N 2 Tenga is high in the post-test. So, it means Wordlist plus picture is effective in increasing students’ stock ofvocabulary at the seventh grade of SMP N 2 Tenga.

Abstract

The research is intended to reveal Pip's struggle for a better life. He never gives up to reach his dream for better life as seen in Charles Dickens' Great Expectations. This research is categorized as a qualitative research because the data are taken in the form of words. The data are collected from primary source that is the novel itself, and the secondary sources are collected from some books, articles, internet and other sources that are used to support the analysis. In analyzing the data, the writer used objective approach. The result shows the struggle of Pip for a better life. The first struggles to be a gentleman, and the second struggles to get his love. Pip is an orphan and Pip always tries to be a gentleman so that his life can be better and he never gives up on getting Estella, the woman he loves. And in the end the efforts that Pip can do, Pip can get what he dreams of becoming a respectable man and getting Estella's love a woman he loves so much.
