Abstract

Degradation of morals or moral decadence has attacked young generations, especially college students. Therefore, this paper aims to find out forms of moral decadence found in college students. This research uses a qualitative method with a case study approach, the data were collected through direct interviews with ten informants (college students) by using the purposive sampling technique. To strengthen interview data, the writer performed passive participation observation by coming directly to the observed location. All results of the interview were analyzed using Milles and Hauberman’s pattern. The research found nine forms of moral decadence in college students. They are: i) negligent in worship, ii)sexual promiscuity,  iii) involved in drug abuse, iv) hedonism, v) revealing awrah, vi) lack of ethics,  vii) impolite speaking, viii) dishonest in academics and ix) lack of time management.  The results of this research can be used as initial data for future research investigating similar problems in different contexts and issues.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze parents' efforts to increase children's interest in learning. This research uses qualitative methods with a case study approach. Data collection techniques used are interviews, observation, and documentation. Data sources were taken from six informants consisting of parents and elementary school children through direct interviews. All data were analyzed thematically using the Miles and Huberman technique. The results of the study as a whole describe nine main themes of parents' efforts to increase children's interest in learning, namely i) parents know children's learning development, ii) complete children's learning facilities, iii) guide children to study at home, iv) control children's study time, v) limiting the use of gadgets, vi) a comfortable learning environment, vii) children attend tutoring, viii) give rewards to children, xi) parents' economic influence

Abstract

This research aims to find out students' motivation in memorizing Quran at An-Nazhifa and Serambi Minang, Padang, Indonesia. This research used a qualitative method with the case study approach. The data was collected from forty-eight samples through deep interviews chosen by purposive sampling. Fourty-eight samples are the management of Rumah Quran, six of them are ustadz and ustadzah, twenty students and twenty of them are students' parents. The result of the interview will be analyzed by using NVivo12. Overall, the analysis of the research shows that there are ten students’ motivations, such as i) getting a reward by reading Quran, ii) becoming a theologian, iii) becoming a hafiz, iv) achieving goals easier, v) making parents happy, vi) get a chance to help their parents on the afterlife, vii) to study and get the scholarship, ix) family's encouragement, x) want to be Quran's teacher. These motivations can be the encouragement for the students to be hafiz Quran. Hopefully, this research can be a reference for the teacher and parents to encourage their children in memorizing Quran

Abstract

One of the adjustments made in the learning process during the Covid-19 pandemic was the use of internet media.  With the presence of the internet as a source of information, it is very possible for someone to search for and disseminate all science and technology including writing inventions throughout the world easily, quickly, and cheaply.  The purpose of this study was to find out how the use of internet media and the role of internet media on student achievement majoring in Islamic Broadcasting Communication at Imam Bonjol State Islamic University, Padang.  This study uses a qualitative research method with a phenomenological approach, data sources are taken through in-depth interviews with thirty informants.  All data were analyzed thematically using the Miles and Huberman technique.  Mass Communication Theory which is used in this research is Uses and Gratificition Theory.  The results of the study found five activities carried out by students on the internet to support lectures: (i) looking for assignment references through journals, (ii) reading online news, (iii) watching Youtube tutorials, (iv) searching Google, Blogs, Web, (v) discuss and learn together like in a WhatsApp group.  Furthermore, overall, the informants stated that the use of the internet network could support their learning achievement in higher education.

Abstract

Seeking knowledge is a noble practice that will make it easier for the seeker to go to heaven. Therefore it is important for a student to pay attention to manners when dealing with a teacher both in class and outside of class. Because according to scholars, a noble work must be done in a noble way as well. Even the Salaf past paid a lot of attention to manners in learning, so it is not surprising that knowing manners is more important than learning with a teacher. Precisely, this article will discuss how a student behaves towards the teacher in the context of learning both inside and outside the classroom. This article is written using a qualitative method with a content analysis approach, all data is taken from various sources that come from books, classics, theories and expert opinions. All the data that has been gathered is then analyzed thematically and described in a comprehensive and in-depth manner. Based on the author's conclusion, there are eight manners that students should have towards the teacher, the eight manners are i) always sincerely respect the teacher, ii) try to purify the heart, iii) Tawadu about the knowledge learned, iv) listen well to every teacher's explanation, v) not contradicting and interrupting the teacher's conversation, vi) always enthusiastic in learning, vii) always praying for the teacher and viii) always glorifying the teacher. To make it more interesting, all the results of this research will be discussed with the results of previous studies and the latest issues. The author hopes that this article can be a source of guidance for students and teachers in seeking knowledge and can also be a foundation for subsequent researchers to discuss this problem in different contexts and issues.

Abstract

This study aims to determine whether character values can be instilled in students through the dawn education program. This study uses a combined method of qualitative and quantitative (explanatory mixed method design). Qualitative data sources were taken from four informants through in-depth interviews who were selected using purposive sampling. While quantitative data was taken to fifty-four students who were selected using simple random sampling technique. Interview data with informants were analyzed thematically using four steps (data collection, data reduction, data presentation and conclusion drawing). Furthermore, quantitative data were analyzed descriptively using SPSS 21. Overall, the results of the analysis of the two stages of this study showed that there were fifteen character values in the dawn education program for students. The fifteen character values are: i) religious, ii) discipline, iii) self-confidence, iv) hard work, v) cooperation, vi) responsibility, vii) honesty, viii) courtesy, ix) tolerance, x) independent, xi) curiosity, xii) friendly, xiii) peace-loving, xiv) environmental care, and xv) social care. The results of the study have also proven that dawn education activities can be well implemented for the character education of students.

Abstract

This study aims to identify how the parenting style of parents in instilling morality in children among the people on the coast. This study uses a qualitative method with an ethnographic approach, data sources were taken to eight informants consisting of five female parents (mother), and three parents (male) through in-depth interviews selected using purposive sampling technique. All interview results were then analyzed using Miles and Huberman's qualitative analysis technique with four steps of analysis (data collection, data reduction, presentation and conclusion). Overall, the research findings found that, there are three forms of parenting carried out by coastal community parents in educating children's morals in their daily lives. The three patterns are first; authoritarian parenting, second; democratic, third; permissive. The results of this study can be used as initial data for future research in examining different issues related to this problem and other issues relevant to this context.

Abstract

This research aims to analyze the strategies employed by school principals to enhance the quality of Islamic Religious Education in primary schools. The study utilizes a qualitative method with a case study approach. Data sources are obtained through structured interviews with four key informants, including the school principal, Islamic Religious Education teachers, homeroom teachers, and students. To strengthen the interview data, the author also conducts direct observations and analyzes relevant documentation to ensure comprehensive research outcomes. All data are analyzed using the Miles and Huberman data analysis techniques. The research findings reveal nine strategies implemented by school principals to improve the quality of instruction. These nine strategies consist of two aspects of planning (internal analysis and external analysis), five aspects of implementation (providing continuous motivation to teachers, enhancing teacher competence, fostering discipline among teachers and students, improving student quality, and enhancing learning facilities), and two aspects of evaluation (supervision and routine evaluation). These strategies can serve as references for schools in enhancing the quality of instruction in various primary schools in Indonesia

Abstract

There are many aspects that make a da'i popular among mad'u, one of which is rhetoric. Rhetoric is a style of conveying messages conveyed by da'i to mad'u. By conveying a good message, it will raise the dignity and degree of the da'i. This study aims to determine Ustadz Felix Siauw's rhetorical style including language style, voice style, and gesture style. The method used in this study uses a qualitative research method with a content analysis approach. The data collection technique is observing or watching videos that have been uploaded on the "Felix Siauw" YouTube channel. Then analyze the words that contain the application of language style, sound, and gestures. While the data source is the YouTube channel "Felix Siauw" itself and supporting knowledge such as books, journals, the internet or other references that discuss rhetorical style. From this study, the results showed that Ustadz Felix Siauw applied the rhetorical style very well in his lectures. First, the style of language used is more inclined to use words that are gentle, polite, do not provoke provocation, and create a peaceful atmosphere. On the other hand, the language used is firm and straightforward. Second, the rhythmic style of voice, found a flat tone when explaining history with moderate vocals so that it touches the listeners. Third, apart from the style of language and style of voice, Felix also uses the style of gestures such as the style of the body and eye gaze, the style of dress that is polite and neat, the style of facial expressions and hand movements. The results obtained from the research can be a reference for preachers to preach in spreading Islamic teachings.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the perceptions of students majoring in Islamic religious education towards technological skills and mastery of foreign languages as prospective teachers. This study used a quantitative research method with a survey approach. Data sources were taken using a questionnaire to fifty student respondents as prospective Islamic religious education teachers from four different universities on the island of Sumatra. All were then analyzed descriptively using SPSS software version 20. The results of the analysis showed that; i) in general, respondents agree that technology is a very effective medium in supporting the learning process, in fact, students as prospective teachers must master technology that can be integrated with learning. ii) further related to mastery of foreign languages, as a whole the respondents agreed that mastery of foreign languages for students majoring in teacher training can support their careers as professional teachers, besides that foreign languages are a tool for finding various sources as learning materials so teachers can be creative and innovate in learning process. The findings are initial information for future researchers in studying this problem in more or less the same context and issues
