Abstract

Linguistic intelligence is one of eight multiple intelligences that currently attracts attention in the world of education. Linguistic intelligence is a person's ability to speak both verbally and in writing, besides that people who have linguistic intelligence also master the components of linguistic intelligence which consists of phonology, syntax, semantics and pragmatics. The type of research used is research and development (R & D) with a 4D model. The subjects in this study were experts as validators, fifth grade students for trials and homeroom teachers in elementary schools. Data collection is done by giving a questionnaire to the validator. In this study the researchers concluded that the product of the developed linguistic intelligence assessment instrument was declared feasible to be used based on the results of validation of 86% with very feasible categories. The obstacle in developing the product of this instrument of linguistic intelligence assessment is the lack of knowledge of the school about the importance of linguistic intelligence for students in elementary schools.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine the perceptions of the student teachers of the Elementary School Teacher Study Program (PGSD) as a provision to the teaching profession. This research is a quantitative descriptive. The population of this study were all student teachers from batch 2015 and 2016 who had participated in the introduction to the school field (PLP) program. Sampling in this study was taken using accidental techniques, seen from the number of research samples of 50 student teachers of batch 2015 and 47 student teachers of batch 2016. The data collection method used was a questionnaire. Data analysis techniques were done using quantitative data analysis of percentage formulas. Student perceptions can be seen from each indicator as follows: (1) Indicator of absorption of stimuli or objects from outside individuals from the perception of batch 2015 student teachers acquired an average percentage of 75.28% with the category of "good" and from the perception of batch 2016 student teachers acquired the average percentage of 75.82% with the category "good". (2) Indicators of understanding from the perception of batch 2015 student teachers acquired an average percentage of 78.18% with the category "good" and from the perception of batch 2016 student teachers acquired an average percentage of 69.98% with the category of "good". (3) Indicators of assessment or evaluation from the perception of batch 2015 student teachers acquired an average percentage of 76.76% with the category of "good" and from the perception of batch 2016 student teachers acquired an average percentage of 78.73% with the category of good. Student teachers' perception of the implementation of introduction to the school field (PLP) as a provision to the teaching profession is categorized as "good".

Abstract

Many students and even teachers still cannot recognize the relevance of the model to build physical knowledge. The study of mental representations built by students in their interactions with the world, phenomena and artifacts, is an important line of research in science education. Therefore, it is not surprising that analogies play an important role in science education, because the construction of students in mental models of abstract phenomena must be rooted in some existing or previous experiences, to interpret more complex ideas. The purpose of this study is to investigate mental models elementary school students against the phenomenon of day and night. This research is quantitative descriptive. The research subjects were 20 students in grade six. The results showed that 20% of students had a low mental model (LMM), 45% of students had a moderate mental model (MMM), and 35% of students had a high mental model (HMM). Based on the results of the study it can be said that, (1) 20% of students cannot explain the concepts scientifically and students' understanding is at the level of symbolic representation. (2) 45% of students cannot explain the causes of a phenomenon, student understanding is at the level of macrocospic representation, (3) and 35% of students have concepts with understanding based on real-life observations with scientific concepts learned at school and students' understanding is at the level of representation of microcosms.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the relationship between self-efficacy and mathematical knowledge of 3-D shapes of fifth graders of elementary school. Participants in this study were 76 fifth grade students from a public school in Duri region, Indonesia. The method used in this research is the correlation and regression study. Instruments in this study are non-test and test. The non-test instrument is in the form of a questionnaire, and the test instrument is in the form of questions regarding the 3-D shapes. The indicators of self-efficacy consist of magnitude (level of task difficulty), strength (strength of belief) and generality, while the indicators of mathematical knowledge of 3-D shapes are properties, area, and volume of cubes and rectangular prism. The data analysis technique was carried out by presenting data, normality test, linearity test, linear regression test, and hypothesis testing using Pearson's product moment correlation. The results show that there is a significant positive relationship between students’ self-efficacy and mathematical knowledge of 3-D shapes.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to investigate fifth-grade students’ logical thinking in mathematics. Their logical thinking skills were categorized based on five levels, namely very low, low, medium, high and very high. This study used descriptive quantitative method, and it was conducted with 123 fifth-grade students from a public elementary school in Pekanbaru, Riau, Indonesia. The instruments used to collect data were logical thinking ability tests consisting of short answer tasks and mathematical reasoning for the given answers. The results of this study indicated that students have very low logical thinking within the average score of 22.76%. More than half of students could not give correct answers to the given tasks and also could not provide reasoning to their answers. The implication of this study is that teachers, teacher educators, curriculum developers, and government need to develop learning instruction that support students’ logical thinking in facing challenges in 21st century life.

Abstract

This study aims to develop an animated video media for fourth grade social studies learning about economic diversity in Riau. This research is research and development with the 4D model, namely define, design, development and dissemination. The instruments used to obtain data were questionnaires (validation questionnaires and response questionnaires) and interviews. While the data obtained came from 2 validators, namely material experts and media experts, as well as 1 practitioner (teacher) and 12 students from one of the public elementary schools in Pekanbaru. Data collection techniques used were validity questionnaires, teacher response questionnaires, student responses and interviews. The results showed that the animated video media developed received very valid criteria with a proportion of 96.4% from material experts in the very valid category and very valid criteria with a score of 84.5% from media experts. The results of the teacher's answers get a very good score with a score proportion of 89.2%, one-to-one test results get a very good score with a score proportion of 90% and small group test results get a very good score with a proportion of 83.8%. It can be interpreted that animated video media is feasible and valid for use in learning.
