Abstract

Riau province has a very large peatland. Large peatland is constraint in the development of infrastructure of a region. The problems posed ini the field of contruction is the amount of land degradation and low soil carrying capacity. Therefore, an alternative to the soil reinforcement is required by using the cerucuk timber to increase the carrying capacity of the foundation and soil reinforcement. This research was conducted to determine the carrying capacity of mangrove and mahogany wood as reinforcement on peat soil with laboratory scale modeling. The research was done by applying load tests on those timbers in a testing basin with dimensions of 1,2 m x 1 m x 1 m with variations of single pile, group pile consists of 4 piles, and group pile consists of 9 piles. The used method was alpha method as the reference to determine limit bearing capacity. From the test result of settlement interpretation loading of 25 mm on mangrove, it was obtained that maximum bearing capacity were 16,22 kg and 19,85 kg when the pile was embedded for 1 day and 7 days long. As for the mahang, the maximum bearing capacity were 15,51 kg and 18,47 kg when the pile was embedded for 1 day and 7 days long. According to the results, it could be concluded that mangrove piles had a larger bearing capacity compared to mahang piles. Keywords : mangrove piles, mahang piles, foundation`s bearing capacity, peat.

Abstract

This experiment aimed to determine the best growing media composition and coconut water in stimulating the growth of pepper plant cuttings. It used a two factorial randomized block design. The first factor was various proportions of media compositions of manure, sand and top soil i.e. 1:4:12; 1:4:6; and 1: 4:4. The second factor was different rates of coconut water i.e. A0           (no coconut water added), A1 (40 cc), A2 (80 cc), and A3 (120 cc). There were 12 combination treatments and each was replicated three times with each treatment consisting of three plants. Parameter observed included shoot length, leaf number, leaf area size, root length, and fresh root weight. The research results showed that there was no significant interaction effect between         the media composition and the coconut water on the shoot length at 45 days after planting (DAP), 60 DAP, and 90 DAP but it was significant at 75 DAP. The interaction effect was also significant on the leaf number at 60 DAP. Only the coconut water had significant effect on the total leaf area size, the root length, and the fresh weight. The stimulation of the pepper cutting growth was best under the 120 cc coconut water treatment per week and the sand, manure and top soil proportion of 1:4:4 treatment. Key Words : Coconut water, pepper cuttings, and planting media

Abstract

A peatland is an area with naturally accumulated decayed organic materials (peat) at the surface. Riau Province has the largest peatlands in Sumatra i.e. 56.1% from the total peatlands in Sumatra. Peat fires have been many times occurred in Indonesia. Stabilization proven to preverent peat fire in Malaysia. Most common available stabilization materials are cement and lime. Research conducted by Zamzam (2017) showed that peat mixed with 5% lime and 15% cement at 100% moisture content, could increase its strength and became less combustible. This research attempts to correlate the mechanical properties of peat that stabilized with cement and lime at various water contents, and its burning resistance. Several water contents applied were 51.52%, 76.77%, 81.82%, 102.02%, 107.07%, and 112.12%. The burning tests were not conducted on sample of 51,52 % water content. The result showed that the optimum strength of stabilized peat mixtures achieved at water content of 76,77%, which had UCS and soaked CBR value of 97.35 kPa and 16,23%, respectively. The burning test showed that the higher the water content, the delay combustible the peat sample, however the mechanical test and burning tests showed the opposite results. Keywords: peat fire, cement, lime, CBR, and UCS.

Abstract

Ground high plasticity have the properties is bad so do not meet the technical requirements desired. The properties owned land in the form of low bearing capacity, compression (compressibility) high, sweilling large, and difficult to carry out the work of compaction, it is necessary for the stabilization of the soil. One of the ways used to solve problems among other things stabilized with cement. The purpose of this study to determine the effect of OPC cement type or PCC at high plasticity ground against the carrying capacity of land, CBR and UCS. Testing was conducted on the physical and mechanical properties of soil, compaction parameters, CBR and UCS. The standard test used is ASTM. Variations cement used is the addition of 6%, 8%, 10% for each OPC cement and PCC. Curing is done before the test CBR and UCS, the curing time for 28 days on the condition of optimum water content. Results from the study showed that the increase in the maximum CBR value occurs in a mixture of 10% which is 139.70% to 116.43% OPC and for PCC. The maximum value of UCS also occur on the addition of cement by 10%. In the cement mixture with OPC, qu max by 1.44 MPa and 2.43 MPa with a mixture of cement PCC.Keywords: curing, high plasticity, stabilization, cement
