Abstract

AbstractThis research aims to explain and describe the conceptual understanding of mathematical epistemology barriers students before and after are handled through Reciprocal Teaching with a peer tutor at the students of SMP Islam Bawari. The methods used in this research is the pre-eksperiement: one-preteset-group posttest design. Data collection techniques used in this research is the tests and interviews. Data collection tools used in the form of diagnostic tests, which contains 4 question essay and interview guidelines. The data in this study a greater emphasis on qualitative aspects and focuses on conceptual understanding students ' mathematical in resolving the problem. The results obtained are obstacles before students are given epistemology handling is quite high because the percentage of the average test score of only 38% diagnostiknya. After being given the handling through Reciprocal Teaching with a peer tutor, barriers addressed students this epistemology can be seen on the average percentage of diagnostic test scores of students increased to 88%. Keywords: Epistemological barriers, Mathematical conceptual understanding, Through reciprocal teaching with a peer tutor.

Abstract

Abstract The aim of this research is to describe the procedural fluency mathematic of students in solving algebraic operations. In this research, the procedural fluency based on two aspects: the students’ knowledge of procedural and the knowledge of using the procedural in the proper time to solve algebraic operations. The method of research used case study as the qualitative method. The subject of research were some junior high school students who lived around the researcher’s environment. The instrument of research consist of major instrument (the researcher) and supporting instrument (test and interview). Based on the result of research, the researcher found that the students’ knowledge of procedural fluency mathematic was not fluent enough. It is proven by the students’ answers. Most of them made mistake in answering the circumference of a rectangle and in operating unlike terms. Moreover, the students also confused when and how to use the procedural in solving algebraic operations. They were not consistent in operating like terms and unlike terms. In addition, they could not explain the correct reasons in using the procedural mathematic to solve algebraic operations.  Keywords: Procedural Fluency, Problem Solving, Algebraic Operations

Abstract

Abstract                                                                            This study aimed to explain the potential of mathematical analogy studied from the cognitive style of students in the subject of radical form of class VIII F SMP Negeri 1 Sungai Raya. The research method was descriptive method with case study research. The subjects of this study were 5 students of class VIII F SMP Negeri 1 Sungai Raya 2016/2017 consisted of 1 Independent cognitive field students and 4 students of cognitive field dependent. The results of this study showed that: (1) The potential of mathematical analogy of cognitive style students of Field Independent has a high potential with a percentage of 83.33%; (2) The Potential of mathematical analogy of cognitive style students of Field Dependent has varying potential; 2 students have a high mathematical analogy potential with a percentage of 83.33%; 1 student has the potential of a moderate mathematical analogy with a percentage of 75%; and 1 student has the potential of a mathematical analogy that is very low with a percentage of 41.67%. Keywords: Potential of Mathematical Analogy, Cognitive Style

Abstract

AbstractThis research aimed at analizing the ability of the students? mathematics representation on linear program materials after analizing the students? mathematics disposition and having cooperative problem solving model. This research was qualitative research with quantitative data as a tool to describe the students? achievement result. The research subject was the 8 students based on the lowest pre test result from the students of XI MIPA2.The research was conducted for once meeting. The delivering of lesson materials used cooperative problem solving model to the students with pedagogic treatment in the form of micro didactic. The observer who was from the mathematics education background of knowledge also stayed in class during the learning process. The data which had been collected were the implementation of cooperative problem solving, the students? learning activity, the students? ability on mathematics representation and disposition. Based on the research result, it could be concluded that cooperative problem solving model could increase the students?ability on mathematics representation and disposition. This could be proved by the increasing things as follow: First, the 8 students?ability on mathematics representation which was from the pre test average score 44,00 became 77,43 on post test. The total students who achieved the passing grade were 0 student from 8 students (0%) became 6 students from 8 students (75%) who completely passed the passing grade. Second, the students?ability on mathematics disposition was considered good/high. Abstract

AbstractMathematical literacy is an individual?s capacity to formulate, employ, and interpret mathematics in a variety of contexts. It includes reasoning mathematically and using mathematical concepts, procedures, facts, and tools to describe, explain, and predict phenomena. It assists individuals to recognise the role that mathematics plays in the world and to make the well-founded judgments and decisions needed by constructive, engaged and reflective citizens.This study aims to determine the level of students? mathematical literacy aspects of Content Space and Shape in junior high school 02 Sungai Raya. The answer in this study is to describe in detail in the form of a case study.The subjects of this study were 6 students of class IX A who were capable of upper, middle and lower with the object of their research mathematical literacy skills in the aspect of content space and shape in the three-dimensional materof cubes and beams. The results of the research on class IX A students showed that the two top-capable students were able to reach level 6 mathematical literacy aspects of content space and shape, two middle-capable students were able to reach level 3 mathematical literacy aspects of content space and shape, one lower-capable student was able to reach level 3 mathematical literacy aspect of content space and shape, and one lower-capable student is able to reach level 2 mathematical literacy aspects of content space and shape. This result implies that there are students who are able to reach above level 2 mathematical literacy aspects of space and shape content.Keyword:Mathematical Literacy, Level of Mathematical Literacy, Content Space and Shape

Abstract

AbstractThe purpose of this research is to explain the conceptual understanding of students refer to  SOLO taxonomy in the material of exponential function at SMA Negeri 3 Pontianak. The research method used is explorative descriptive method. The subject of the research are 10 students class of X IPA 6 in SMA Negeri 3 Pontianak. Subject taking was done by giving a SOLO taxonomy test first and then each of the 2 subjects selected representing each of the SOLO taxonomy levels was selected. The technique of collection data used are written tests and interviews. The tools of collection data used are test instrument, interview guide, voice recorder, and camera. The result of the data analysis of this research showed that students conceptual understanding of SOLO taxonomy is very low category with a percentage of 54%. The students conceptual understanding of level 0, level 1, and level 2 is very low category with a percentage of 34%, 44%, and 53%. Meanwhile, level 3 is low category with a percentage of 59%. Furthermore, level 4 is high category with a percentage of 81%. Keywords: Conceptual Understanding, Solo Taxonomy, Exponential Function

Abstract

AbstractThis research intends to explain and analyze the result of the application of RME structured scientific approach to develop student’s mathematical problem solving  abilities in junior high school. The research is conducted using Pedagogical Action Research in two cycles. The result shows (1) Student’s mathematical problem solving  abilities were weak before RME structured scientific approach implemented to the teaching, the percentage ability was 20,56%, average pre-test score was 20,81 and 0% for study completeness; (2) The use of RME structured scientific approach in teaching students was implemented accordingly to the plan that had been set, its six steps of the approach ran optimally; 3) Student’s mathematical problem solving  abilities increased significantly after the teaching, percentage average of mathematical problem solving increased to 79,08%, average test score increased to 82,72 and study completeness increased to 74,07%; (4) Implementation result of RME structured scientific approach can develop student’s mathematical problem solving  ability. It is proved by the average percentage of mathematical problem solving ability achievement increased by 58,53%, test score increased by 61,91 score and study completeness percentage inceased by 74,07 %.  Keywords: Scientific Approach, RME Approach, Mathematical Problem Solving Ability.

Abstract

 AbstractConceptual understanding of mathematic and mathematical connections became an important focus in the curriculum of mathematics. The population in this research were all students of IX SMP N 10 Pontianak, and the sample of the research was class IX D which selected by sampling. The form of research used was pre-experimental design with one group pre test-post test design. This research desig was devided into three phases, namely preparation phase, implementation phase, and data processing phase. Data collection techniques which used were test and non-test, the data have been obtained were analyzed by descriptive qualitative and quantitative methods. Generally, students? conceptual understanding and mathematical connection ability by using constuctivist approach learning has improved. Students? mathematical conceptual understanding at the begining belongs to medium category which percentage of 68.04%. This, students? mathematical connection ability at the begining before using constructivist approach belongs to low cateogry which was only 28,81%.The learning process was implented well, which was accordance with the lesson plan, and the results fell into a very good category. Students? mathematical conceptual understanding after learning process was categorized high which the percentage score of 87,78%. Meanwhile, students? mathematical connection ability after learning was categorized as high as 77.14%.Keywords: mathematical conceptual, mathematical connection, constructivist,                  mathematical knowledge.

Abstract

AbstractThe purpose of this research was to describe the students creative thinking process in geometry problem solving based on wallas stage to the ninth-grade students of SMPN 03 Pontianak observed from their mathematic ability. This research used descriptive study case method. The subject in this research were 6 student of by  IX A and IX E class. Method of data collection were taken by written a test to discover the creative thinking process based on wallas stage; final mathematic score in even semester to know student’s mathematic ability; and did some interview to knows student’s creative thinking process deeply. The result of this research show that  student in IX A are R1 who has high ability  and R3  who has low ability; and student in IX E is R2  who has intermediate ability. Then, the result indicate that creative thinking process involved stage which include synthesis ideas with their own word, planning to apply the ideas in many ways, solving their palanning and looking back their answer. The analysis also show every wallas stage of creative thingking proces is distinct each student. The interest thing is R3 could passed the wallas stage very well than two other. Abstract

AbstractThis study aims to develop a higher order thinking test instrument and explain the higher order thinking skill of students at class XI MIPA SMA Negeri 1 Pontianak. This research is in the form of research and development with the type of research is the instruments development. The higher order thinking test is developed through the define stage, that is front-end analysis, learner analysis, material analysis, compiling test specifications; the design stage, that is composing the pointers item, writing item, reproduction of limited tests; the development stage, that is one to one, qualitative analysis, conducting test run, quantitative analysis, revision, assembling test; disseminate stage, that is mass production. Based on the results of the item analysis, it was found that the higher order thinking test instrument conform the precision indicators, so that it can be used to measure the higher order thinking skill. Based on the results of student answers analysis, it is found that the higher order thinking skill of students at class XI MIPA SMA Negeri 1 Pontianak is on the medium criteria, both for indicators to analyze, evaluate, create, or as a totality. Keywords:  Instruments Development, Higher Order Thinking Test Instrument, Higher Order Thinking Skill
