Abstract

This article is to aim at scrutinizing factors that have explained the extent to which magnitude and rank of the Human Development Index of Indonesia had or had not improved in the last 8 year. Within this period, the Indonesia’s HDI has been consistently ranked at the 7th position after Vietnam’s, and Indonesia has won the race with this country only in 2004 and 2006.Nevertheless, Indonesia has a great potential to manage some measurable improvement through learning from other ASEAN countries’ experiences. Vietnam is the immediate choice for Indonesia to benchmark for the future HDI improvement. In the HDI 2007, Indonesia is already in favor in three out of the four indicators used to constitute the composite HDI, such as Literacy, Combine GER, and GDP per-capita, whereas Vietnam only is in the life expectancy. In the absence of weighting in the process of compositing the index, Indonesia has to accept the fact that its HDI is lower than that of Vietnam. Abstract

The conventional instruction which is characterized by, for example, seperating schools from their environments, teachers as the only source of knowledge and quiet learning classrooms is no more effective and even hampers the development of student’s potentials. The concept of multiple intelligences and the new finding of human brain’s stratified structure implies a new alternative of instruction in order to bring schools and the educational system in line with new era’s up to date demands. The alternative involves the reform of instructional approach and the information and communication technology (ICT) for education. Abstract

AbstrakPembelajaran informal adalah proses pembelajaran spontan yang terjadi dalam kehidupan sehar-hari, memiliki dampak terhadap kecakapan dan kepribadian seseorang. Dampak tersebut akan dapat dirasakan ketika seseorang berhadapan dengan kehidupan nyata. Banyak di antara mereka yang melakukan kegiatan belajar informal menunjukkan keberhasilan, seperti kegiatan belajar yang dilakukan oleh para anggota Kopma BS UPI ternyata mampu menumbuhkan jiwa wirausaha. Atas dasar hal tersebut maka penelitian dilakukan dengan tujuan mendeskripsikan dan menganalisis tentang; motivasi belajar informal, pola belajar informal dan dampak dari pola belajar informal dalam penumbuhan jiwa wirausaha para anggota Kopma BS UPI. Penelitian dilakukan menggunakan metode deskriptif dengan pendekatan kualitatif. Pengumpulan data dilakukan menggunakan wawancara tidak terstruktur, observasi partisipatori dan non partisipatori serta studi dokumentasi. Hasil penelitian menemukan bahwa; 1) keberhasilan memiliki jiwa wirausaha sebagian besarnya ditentukan oleh motivasi intrinsik, motivasi situasional, dan motivasi instrumental; 2) pola pembelajaran informal dilakukan dalam bentuk diskusi terstruktur ataupun tidak, praktik langsung mengelola usaha, pembelajaran yang terjadi tanpa rencana, kegiatan belajar yang terjadi karena ketidaksengajaan, belajar mandiri dan  proses saling membelajarakan belajar dengan anggota lainnya; 3) pembelajaran informal para anggota di Kopma BS UPI memberikan dampak terhadap tumbuhnya jiwa wirausaha para anggota yang ditandai dengan perubahan sikap dan pola pikir para anggota. AbstractInformal learning is a spontaneous learning process that occurs in everyday life, has an impact on a person's skills and personality. This impact will be felt when someone is dealing with real life. Many of those who carried out informal learning activities showed success, such as the learning activities carried out by members of the BS UPI Kopma were able to foster an entrepreneurial spirit. On the basis of this, the research was carried out with the aim of describing and analyzing; informal learning motivation, informal learning patterns and the impact of informal learning patterns in developing the entrepreneurial spirit of the members of Kopma BS UPI. The research was conducted using a descriptive method with a qualitative approach. Data collection was carried out using unstructured interviews, participatory and non-participatory observation and documentation study. The research results found that; 1) success in having an entrepreneurial spirit is largely determined by intrinsic motivation, situational motivation and instrumental motivation; 2) informal learning patterns are carried out in the form of structured discussions or not, direct practice of managing a business, learning that occurs without a plan, learning activities that occur by accident, independent learning and the process of teaching and learning from other members; 3) the informal learning of members at Kopma BS UPI has an impact on the growth of the entrepreneurial spirit of the members, which is marked by changes in attitudes and mindsets of the members.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the character of adolescents in matrilineal care in Minangkabau which is described in seven aspects, namely, religious, disciplined and responsible, independent, creative, respectful and polite, cooperative, and communicative. The population in this study were mothers who have adolescent children, live in Padang city, and have brothers (mamak). The present study used a survey method. A multistage random sampling technique was used for sampling. A sample of 296 respondents was asked to answer a questionnaire. The questionnaire was tested and validated by experts. A descriptive statistical analysis was performed using SPSS. The results showed that the character of respect and manners obtained the highest index score, while the character of cooperation obtained the lowest index score. To improve the character of cooperation, it is necessary to increase the involvement of adolescents in completing a job with their friends and solve their friends' problems.

Abstract

ABSTRACT The researcher is interested in finding out if students’ vocabulary mastery correlates with their writing skills. The 44 students were selected for this study using a purposive sampling technique, they were selected from the population of all the 10th grade students at State 3 Senior High School Tangerang District. A vocabulary test and a writing test were used to collect the data from the participants in this study. The Pearson Product Moment Correlation was used to examine the relationship between the two variables. The result shows that the coefficient between variable X and variable Y is 0.682. The criteria of correlation between two variables among 0.600 – 0.800 shows a high or strong correlation. The significant level at 5% is r-table = 0.297, it means rxy > r-table (0.682 > 0.297). The r-table significant level at 1 % is 0.384, it means that the rxy > r-table (0.682 > 0.384). The result of the analyses shows that there is a positive and significant correlation between students’ vocabulary mastery and students’ writing skill of State 3 Senior High School Tangerang District. Therefore, the null hypothesis (H0) is rejected and the alternative hypothesis (Ha) is accepted. In other words, students who score high on vocabulary tests tend to have good writing skills too. Abstract

ABSTRAKPendidikan Kewarganegaraan di Indonesia memiliki beberapa fungsi salah satunya sebagai pendidikan pendahuluan bela negara. Namun dalam praktiknya, proses pembelajaran Pendidikan Kewarganegaraan di perguruan tinggi masih belum menemukan formula yang sesuai dengan konsep pendidikan bela negara untuk warga negara sipil. Penelitian ini bermaksud untuk menjelaskan peranan Pendidikan Kewarganegaraan dalam konteks pendidikan pendahuluan bela negara di perguruan tinggi. Metode yang digunakan dengan pendekatan mix method dengan the dominant less dominant antara wawancara dan survey yang dilakukan kepada 400 peserta didik dan 8 dosen. Proses pengambilan data dilakukan pada peserta didik Universitas Pendidikan Indonesia yang berasal dari 10 (sepuluh) program studi yang berbeda. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa Pendidikan Kewarganegaraan di perguruan memiliki pengaruh terhadap nilai-nilai bela negara dengan kisaran yang berbeda. Hal tersebut dikuatkan dengan hasil wawancara bahwa Pendidikan Kewarganegaraan dapat meningkatkan kecintaan dan motivasi untuk membela negara namun masih dalam tataran pemikiran berbentuk pengetahuan belum pada tataran tindakan. Oleh sebab, praktik dalam pendidikan pendahuluan bela negara tergantung dari perilaku peserta didik itu sendiri. Hal tersebut memiliki implikasi bahwa Pendidikan Kewarganegaraan sebagai pendidikan pendahuluan bela negara untuk warga negara sipil syarat nilai tanpa makna yang tidak berpengaruh terhadap perilaku warga negara sipil secara aktual karena masih berada pada tataran konsep dan pengetahuan peserta didik semata. ABSTRACTCivic Education in Indonesia has several goals, one of which is as primary education for the country's defense. Nevertheless, in practice, the Civic Education learning process in tertiary institutions has not yet found a formula that is in line with the concept of state defense education for civilians. This study intends to explain the role of Civic Education in the context of primary education in state defense in tertiary institutions. The mixed-method approach method with the dominant less dominant between interviews and surveys conducted to 400 students and eight lecturers. The data collection process was carried out on the students of Universitas Pendidikan Indonesia, who came from 10 (ten) different study programs. The study results illustrate that Civic Education in universities influences the values of defending the country with different ranges. The interview results confirmed that Civic Education can increase the love and motivation to defend the country but still at the level of thought in the form of knowledge, not at the level of action. Therefore, practice in primary education in state defense depends on the behavior of the students themselves. It implies that Civic Education as primary education for civilians' defense is a condition without meaning that does not affect civilians' actual behavior because it is still at the students' concepts and knowledge only.

Abstract

This study aimed to examine the effect of teacher professional certification on the improved teachers’ competencies, and the quality of students’ learning. This cross-sectional survey, has randomly selected a number of primary schools from the West Java sampling frame at the systematic random sampling procedures. Data were collected from the sixth grade students and teachers, and headmasters in each of the selected schools, for which the individual sixth-grade students was the unit of analysis. This study used the production function model in which school leaving examination scores (UASBN) were be used as the criteria, and selected teachers’, students’, and schools’ variables were the predictors in the model. The analysis indicated that the teachers’ certification has hardly ever been able to promote certificate holders’ competencies. The certification has not even enabled the Ministry to map out teachers by competency levels, since a certificate of teachers was hardly determined by the real teachers’ competencies; they were notning more than just a label of teachers’ seniority and credential. As the certificate holders, teachers did not offer a guaranty to create a higher quality of teaching and improve the quality of students’ learning. The study found out that the students’ learning achievement was determined more by the social economic status of students’ family rather than by the actual certification mechanism. This study has recommended the Government to start reviewing and well improve the effectiveness of certification system that would enable the teachers to promote their own competencies and promote students’ learning sustainably.ABSTRAK Studi ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui efek sertifikasi pendidik terhadap kompetensi guru dan kualitas belajar siswa. Studi cross-sectional survey, ini memilih sekolah dasar sampel secara random dari daftar sekolah dasar di Jawa Barat. Semua siswa dan guru kelas VI, kepala sekolah telah dijadikan responden, dan siswa adalah unit analisis dalam penelitian ini. Data dianalisis dengan menggunakan model fungsi produksi pendidikan dengan UASBN sebagai criteria, dan prediktor yang terpilih adalah variable sertifikasi, kompetensi guru, karakteristik siswa, kepala sekolah, dan sekolah itu sendiri. Hasil studi menunjukkan bahwa sertifikasi pendidik baru berfungsi untuk memacu kompetensi guru, bahkan belum mampu memetakan kompetensi guru, sehingga sertifikat yang dimiliki belum sepenuhnya merupakan indikator kompetensi, tetapi justru lebih berfungsi sebagai label dari senioritas guru. Dalam kondisi demikian, guru menjadi sulit mewujudkan prestasi belajar siswa, prestasi belajar siswa pada akhirnya ditentukan oleh SES (social economic status) keluarga dan kualitas sekolah. Oleh karena itu, Pemerintah diharapkan melakukan perbaikan sistem sertifikasi sehingga efeknya lebih signifikan terhadap kompetensi guru maupun prestasi belajar siswa.

Abstract

Radikalisme adalah masalah sosial yang sedang ramai dibahas pada abad ke 21 ini. Paham tersebut bertentangan dengan nilai-nilai Pancasila dan mengancam persatuan bangsa Indonesia. Tujuan penulisan artikel ini yaitu untuk mengumpulkan hasil kajian teoritis dari berbagai ahli terkait masalah radikalisme dalam rangka memperkaya khazanah ilmu pengetahuan. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah library research atau yang dikenal dengan nama studi pustaka. Data sekunder berupa informasi yang tertuang dalam berbagai buku dan artikel jurnal. Hasil penelitian ini yaitu ditemukan 10 ciri seseorang terkena paham radikalisme, 12 faktor yang menyebabkan seseorang menjadi radikal, dan proses radikalsime yang dimulai dari kondisi sebelum mengenal, sedang mendalami, setelah mengenal radikalisme, dan setelah bergaul langsung dengan individu atau kelompok radikal. Manfaat teoritis dari hasil penelitian ini yaitu untuk menguatkan atau menambah pengetahuan baru mengenai kajian radikalisme, dan manfaat praktisnya yaitu untuk memberi kemudahan bagi para peneliti atau pihak lain di lapangan dalam mengkaji, mencegah, atau mengatasi fenomena radikalisme.

Abstract

The existence of COVID-19 in Indonesia was officially announced by the president in March 2020 before the virus emerged in Wuhan China. School closure was conducted and the policy of distant learning was officially released by the Ministry of Education. This research aimed to find the challenges that teachers in Indonesia encountered during the COVID-19 pandemic outbreak and how teachers overcome the learning process challenges. The study was conducted towards primary school teachers in some provinces in Indonesia through an online survey with close-ended and open- ended questions. Our research findings showed teachers encounter challenges that include the disturbance in teaching and learning regarding accessibility, learning quality, school-home relationship, and technology awareness. Teachers also changed their ways of teaching by sending the learning materials via Google Classroom, WhatsApp (cross-platform messaging), and a few still conducted face-to- face meetings with strict policies.
