Abstract

Problem based learning (PBL) aims to form student’s problem-solving, which require ananalysis, evaluation, and creation abilities (Higher order thinking or HOT). Implementation of PBL is often used, but has not been analyzed based on syntax and its characteristics. The sample of the study consisted of 53 students divided into two classes XI MIPA 1 and XI MIPA 4. Data sources include the observation’s results of learning in the classroom, student feedback questionnaire, student answers on questions HOT, teacher’s questionnaires and interviews. Data were analyzed by descriptive percentage and pearson correlation. The result showed that all phases of PBL’s syntax is well implemented. The investigation, development & presentation, and the analysis of the problem-solving process are well implemented, but it is excellent on student organizing and problem-orientation phases. As much as of 20,13% of students had an ecxellent HOT, 57,86% is good, 16,98% is fair, and 5,03% is poor. The correlation between PBL implementation and HOT capability is 0,36 which is categorized positive but weak.

Abstract

Technology growing rapidly because technological development is required in all aspects of humanlife. Biotechnology is one of the branch of biology that is constantly evolving. Health andpharmaceutical biotechnology is one of the biotechnology which became the spotlight of the world.Biotechnology is part of science that commences from curiosity. One of curiosity type is epistemiccuriosity (EC). Epistemic curiosity contribute to give problem solving for the appearing issue. Thisneed higher order thinking. Higher order thinking need good cognitive understanding. The purpose ofthis study is to: 1) describe the epistemic curiosity (EC) Biology’ student to the development of healthand pharmaceutical biotechnology, 2) analyzing the correlation of epistemic curiosity (EC) andcognitive ability of biology’ student in health and pharmaceutical biotechnology. This researchincludes descriptive correlative with the research data is a cognitive understanding and EC ofbiology’ student. Cognitive understanding and EC data taken using a questionnaire (i-d scalecuriosity) and problem (the quiz). Average of EC scores is 26,1. A descriptive analysis of the averageEC is of 65.3% (high category). The average of student's cognitive understanding is 38.8%. (lowcategory). Quantitative correlation of cognitive understanding and EC was 0,208 (weak category).Qualitative correlation of cognitive understanding and EC was J category, that have a high EC butlow cognitive understanding.

Abstract

This research aims to train students’ metacognitive ability used Science Reflective Journal Writing by JAS approach on the material of reproductive system. This type of research was One shot case study which was conducted at SMA Negeri 2 Pemalang. The subjects of this research were students of grade XI MIA 4 and XI MIA 5. The Independent variable of this research was Science reflective journal writing in problem-based learning by JAS approach, while dependent variables were metacognitive ability, activity and students’ cognitive learning results. The students’ metacognitive ability was measured by using observation sheets of students’ activity, discussion assessment sheets, and post-test questions. The results of analysis showed that the use of science reflective journal writing has good influence to train the students’ metacognitive ability. The students’ metacognitive ability of SMA Negeri 2 Pemalang was included in good category which is 76% , it also gave an influence to cognitive learning result with mastery learn classical ≥ 75% and student activity with a range of 62.51% - 81.25% classified as active. Based on the results of the research, it can be concluded that the students’ metacognitive ability at SMA Negeri 2 Pemalang for reproductive system material classified as good on the aspects of describing, interpreting, evaluating, planning, and also has good influence to the activity and students’ cognitive learning results on the material of reproductive system.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the effectiveness of project based learning model by using reused paper on neuron system lesson to students learning outcomes in SMA Negeri 1 Pemalang. This study used pretest-posttest control group design. The samples that were used are the third mathematics and scince major of eleventh-graders students (control class) and eleventh-graders of the fourth mathematics and science major (experimental class). The samples were taken by cluster random sampling technique. The results show that the learning outcomes in the experimental class are better than control class. The average of students’ N-gain score in the experimental class was significantly different with control class and it was higher than control class (0,72 > 0,58), the average of experimental’s class psychomotor learning outcomes was classified in the very good category, the experimental’s class affective learning outcomes (environmental care attitude) was significantly different with control class and it was greater than the control class (82> 63). This result is supported by students' and teachers' positive responses of project based learning model by using reused paper. Based on this stufy results, it is concluded that the implementation of project based learning model by using reused paper was effectively optimizing students learning outcomes on neuron system material.

Abstract

The Lusi River has local potential for abundant biodiversity, one of them is the diversity of dragonfly species. This local potential can be compiled into a teaching supplement to complement the student's teaching book. Data on the diversity of dragonflies in the Lusi watershed of Blora region was successfully obtained and compiled as a supplementary book of biodiversity chapters. However, the feasibility of the book needs to be assessed by material experts, media experts, teachers, and students. The purpose of this study was to analyze the feasibility and response of teachers and students to the supplement book developed. This study is designed as Research and Development (R&D) that is limited to the small-scale test stage. Eligibility data obtained by using media validation questionnaires and questionnaires made in accordance with BSNP 2014 standards, while teacher and student response data is obtained by using teacher and student response questionnaires. The validation of material experts against teaching supplements got a score of 93.23% and media experts gave a score of 98.61%, both with very decent categories. However there are suggestions from material and media validators for minor revisions. Teacher and student responses to teaching supplement received scores of 91.83% and 97.3% respectively with very decent categories. Based on the results of the study, it can be concluded that the teaching supplement of dragonfly diversity in Lusi River watershed is feasible for use in the study of biodiversity chapters.

Abstract

Plant tissue competence is to analyze the relationship between structure and function of plant tissue. This study aims to test the validity and effectiveness of the plant tissue module based on blended learning. The research method uses research and development (R & D) which consists of research, development, validation, and field-testing. The research was conducted on learning constraints, teaching materials, and learning materials (plant tissues). Modules are developed from the results of research which are then validated and legibility tests. The field test was conducted at SMA N 1 Jepara by taking 3 classes as a control class (without modules), experiment 1 (using modules), and experiment 2 (using blended learning modules). The results of the characteristics of the blended learning module of plant tissue are images and videos in the module derived from the results of research on plant tissue of xerophytes, mesophytes (monocots and dicots), and hydrophytes in the organs of leaves, stems and roots which are presented along with tissue information to facilitate analysis by comparing between tissue. The results of module validation by teaching materials experts are 97% and learning materials experts are 100% with very valid criteria, and module readability validation is 90% with easy to understand criteria. The results of the effectiveness of the module in the cognitive aspects of the experimental class 2 were higher than the control class and experimental class 1, which was 90,90% with very effective criteria. Classical mastery of the psychomotor and affective aspects of the experimental class 2 by 100% with very effective criteria.

Abstract

The seed plant e-book is an online learning solution. Efforts to improve the quality of learning resources for plantae material, mostly seed plants, are carried out by developing interactive e-books to support online learning. The interactive e-book is designed using a scientific and contextual approach. This study aimed to analyze the effectiveness of the interactive e-book on seed plants with a scientific and contextual approach to the learning outcomes of students. This research method is an experiment to measure the effectiveness of using e-books with a non-equivalent pretest-posttest control group research design to measure learning outcomes. The average of students' learning outcomes in the cognitive aspect is 90.41. The result of the N-Gain calculation of the average learning result or the concept mastery ability test of 0. 72 is included in the high category. Interactive e-books are proven to be effective in improving cognitive, affective, and psychomotor learning outcomes. The use of e-books in online learning encourages student-centered learning because, in the learning process, students are more active and do not depend on the teacher.

Abstract

The competence of plantae material is grouping plants' characteristics into divisions and linking their roles in life. This study aims to test the validity and effectiveness of the encyclopedia media for medicinal plants in Berastagi and Desa Pantai Labu, North Sumatra. Research methods and development of medicinal plants encyclopedia using the model analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation. The medicinal plants' encyclopedia was developed from the plant exploration research results, which were then validated and readability tests. The trial was conducted at SMA N 16 Medan using one control class (without an encyclopedia) and one experiment class (using an encyclopedia and textbooks). The exploration and identification of medicinal plant species in Berastagi and Pantai Labu Village found 30 species of medicinal plants belonging to 17 families. The characteristics of the encyclopedia of medicinal plants include images in the encyclopedia from the research results in the form of identification and inclusion of scientific names, local names, and the benefits of medicinal plants. The validation of media experts is 98%, and material experts are 95% with very valid criteria. The media readability test is 90.50% with easy-to-understand standards. The media's effectiveness in the cognitive aspects of the experiment class was higher than the control class, namely by 90% with very effective criteria. Classical mastery of the experiment class's psychomotor aspects and affective aspects was 100% with very effective criteria.

Abstract

The COVID-19 pandemic has affected education worldwide, and online learning is a solution to keep learning activities going. Learning in Indonesia also applies online learning by utilizing smartphones and the internet. The current education curriculum uses Education Technology (edutech), so innovation is needed in developing learning media, one of which is an Android learning application in the form of a Virtual Planetarium Observatory. The research objectives are (1) to analyze the validity of the Virtual Planetarium Observatory, (2) to analyze the feasibility of the Virtual Planetarium Observatory (3) to analyze the effectiveness of the Virtual Planetarium Observatory. This research is a research and development (R&D) research design pretest-posttest control group design with the research subjects of class VII students of MTs Al Hadi Girikusuma Mranggen Demak. The validation results of media experts and media validity experts are very valid, with 93%. The feasibility of the teacher's response and the student's response to the media is very feasible, with a percentage of 86%. The media's effectiveness is pretty effective in increasing student learning outcomes with a rate of 72%. Based on the N-Gain test, the experimental class was 0.72 in the high category, while the control class was in the middle category at 0.58. The significance of the effectiveness based on the t-test with a value of Sig 0.028 < 0.05 means a significant difference between before and after using the Virtual Planetarium Observatory on improving student learning outcomes. Based on the study results, it can be concluded that the Virtual Planetarium Observatory can improve student learning outcomes on solar system material.

Abstract

This study aims to develop an observation-based hybrid learning module as a learning media for biodiversity material. This study uses research and development methods. This research was conducted at MA Darul Ulum Purwogondo Jepara. The subjects of this study consisted of a small-scale trial subject with 20 students and a large-scale trial subject with 68 students. Instruments and data collection techniques in the form of questionnaires and tests of students' cognitive learning outcomes obtained from the pretest and posttest scores. The results showed that (1) the observation-based hybrid learning module was declared valid by validators of media experts and material experts with an average score of 94.4%. (2) The results of the readability analysis of the module meet the very good criteria based on the teacher's response of 97.5% and the student's response of 83.6%. (3) The results of the feasibility analysis of the module based on the teacher's response of 95% and the student's response of 82.1% indicate the module is very feasible. (4) The results of the analysis of the effectiveness of the module to improve students' cognitive learning outcomes are the N-gain value of 0.70 with high criteria. The results of this study indicate that the observation-based hybrid learning module is feasible and effective to be used as a learning media for biodiversity material to improve students' cognitive learning outcomes.
