Abstract

Abstract: An Application of Compositional Metafunctions in Improving Childrens Ability to Learn English Through Images. Objectives: The purpose of this study was to access the application of compositional metafunctions in improving childrens ability in learning English through images. Methods: The method used in this study is a qualitative approach with a literature review using sources from the internet, books, and related research outputs. Findings: The results of this study found that using images in the application of compositional metafunction in learning English to improve childrens abilities has a great influence, in terms of ease of learning and ease of observation. Conclusion: Based on the results presented, this study gives a new horizon that children can easily remember words in English through pictures and make motor comparisons in everyday life with the concept of cognitive development in improving memory for learning English.Keywords: compositional, images, metafunctions, children.Abstrak: Aplikasi Metafungsi Komposisi dalam Meningkatkan Kemampuan Anak Belajar Bahasa Inggris Melalui Gambar. Tujuan: Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengakses penerapan metafungsi komposisional dalam meningkatkan kemampuan anak dalam belajar bahasa Inggris melalui gambar. Metode: Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah pendekatan kualitatif dengan studi pustaka menggunakan sumber dari internet, buku, dan hasil penelitian terkait. Temuan: Hasil penelitian ini menemukan bahwa penggunaan gambar dalam penerapan metafungsi komposisional dalam pembelajaran bahasa Inggris untuk meningkatkan kemampuan anak memiliki pengaruh yang besar, dalam hal kemudahan belajar dan kemudahan pengamatan. Kesimpulan: Berdasarkan hasil yang dipaparkan, penelitian ini memberikan cakrawala baru bahwa anak dapat dengan mudah mengingat kata-kata dalam bahasa Inggris melalui gambar dan membuat perbandingan motorik dalam kehidupan sehari-hari dengan konsep perkembangan kognitif dalam meningkatkan daya ingat untuk belajar bahasa Inggris.Kata kunci: komposisi, gambar, metafungsi, anak-anak.DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.23960/jpp.v12.i3.202214

Abstract

This research aims to classify the type of Speech function process. This research employed systemic functional linguistics theory of Halliday, particularly speech function as a tool of analysis, more specific this research analyzed process of speech function. The phenomenon of speech function, in communicating people need other people who will be our listeners as well as our talking partners at the same time. These actions give rise to various different phenomena due to variations in the ability of each person to apply language and linguistics as well as their cultural background. Because of these divergences, it is undeniable that misunderstandings between listeners and speakers often occur, especially when both participants in a communication are non-native speakers. The data collected from President Joseph Robinette Biden Jr. speech at United State of America from white House You-Tube on March 11th 2021. The researchers used qualitative research design to answer the research question and choose content analysis because the result of the data analyzed is in descriptive phenomenon such as word, clause and utterance. The researchers used documentation as the research instrument. The researchers collected the data that is posted on March, 11th 2021. The findings of this research showed 294 Data that Statement is 292data (99%), Question find 2(1%) data, 0 data for command and offer. The most type of speech function is Statement. In contrast which just 2 question and nothing data for command and offer in his speech

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to look at language variations in early childhood speech at school. The method used in this research was descriptive qualitative. The subjects of this study were early childhood children at one of the Kindergarten school located in the city of Pematangsiantar. Language acquisition is obtained through the language of parents, as well as language in school and in the environment. The variety of languages obtained can be varied, the subjects studied used children as research subjects with different family backgrounds, there was a mixture of Batak Karo and Simalungun tribes, Batak Toba and Batak Karo, Batak Toba with Nias, Javanese with Batak. In early childhood, it is very easy to absorb language and it is easy to imitate the language obtained from parents, the environment and school so that the language used by children can vary. Data collection was carried out using the conversational and observational method of observing. The results obtained are that these five variations appear with various background factors. Dialect variations began to be used along with the development of his age at an early age, so that the acquisition of the language has begun to show its uniqueness.

Abstract

It is not simple to develop a child's character. Formal education combined with a good value planting method can help students learn more effectively and shape their personalities. Families, schools, communities, government, and the media all share responsibilities for children's education and character development. The family is the first and most important environment in which children's personalities are formed. The formation of personality Education in schools is an important element of the school's efforts to meet parents' expectations of developing, moulding, and establishing excellent character in their children. Integration and synergy between education in the home (informal) and education at school are required to build and develop children's character (formal). The combination of informal and formal education is hoped to build a good character for students’ especially for the human resources. As we know that Indonesian is rich of natural resources while the human resource’s aspect is a problem. The problem can be solved by enhancing the character of strong human capital based on the Indonesian nation's character through various forms of education (formal, informal, and non-formal) and at various levels of education (ranging from primary, secondary, and tertiary education).

Abstract

This study examines the English and Toba Batak language request sentence. The imperative phrase of both languages from its form, purpose, and category in a sentence was studied in this analysis. The research used descriptive approach and contrastive analysis in terms of methods, the entire data were gathered by observing and interviewing the native speakers of Toba Batak dialects who still speak in their everyday communication. In the analysis, the authors outlined and compared the differences and similarities in request sentences. The result that we saw from the position of the subject In Toba Bataknese, the position of subject was flexible, they could change without changing the meaning. While in English the position of subject was stable. In the request sentence, Batak Toba is less harsh and Batak people rarely use the word please, and usually the intonation seems strong and there is emphasis, while the request sentence is more likely to be smooth and polite, and the intonation is smoother.

Abstract

The times have increased competition in all sectors of life. Along with the progress of the times, science also continues to grow. Knowledge is used to answer various human needs, increasingly fierce competition in organizations that require various strategies to survive and win the competition. SWOT analysis is one of the sciences used to produce this strategy (Strength=Strength, Weakness=Weakness, Opportunity=Opportunity, Threat=Threat). This analysis is to see the internal and external conditions of an organization. Likewise, the world of education, in this case, schools, needs to do a SWOT analysis to compete and have quality. The increasing number of schools will make the competition even more challenging, so the quality of schools must be crucial. This training activity aims to provide an understanding to the principal, functionaries, teachers, and employees of the importance of conducting a SWOT analysis and provide knowledge on how to conduct a SWOT analysis. This training activity lasted one day and was held in the GKPS 2 Pematangsiantar Private Vocational School building, which was attended by 15 participants from the Principal, Deputy Principal, Head of Department, Teachers, and Employees. The method used in implementing this activity is a lecture or material delivery and practice/training in conducting a SWOT analysis by taking the case of the GKPS 2 Pematangsiantar Private Vocational School. The results of this training activity showed there was an increase in the knowledge of the participants doing a SWOT analysis, as evidenced by the overall pre-test results from 43.3% to 61.3% of the overall post-test results from participants.

Abstract

This research discussed about politeness strategies in Joe Biden’s victory speech. The researcher used theory of Brown and Levinson (1987). This theory to analyzed the types of politeness strategy and the dominant types in Joe Biden victory speech. The source of the data was taken from Joe Biden’s speech in YouTube Its about 15 minutes, 19 seconds. This speech was published at 8 November 2020. The researchers chose Joe Biden’s speech because the researcher found that the types of politeness strategy in this speech.  the researcher found 22 data and three types of politeness strategy namely positive politeness 18 (81.8%), negative politeness 1 (4.5%) and off record indirect strategy 3 (13.6%). Positive politeness that found in this speech namely:  uses promise, intensifity interest to the hearer, be optimistic, repetition, joke, assume or assert reciprocity, offer, and use rhetorical strategy, negative politeness that found in this speech was use pessimistic and off record indirect strategy namely use metaphors and give hints or directions. The most dominant types in Joe Biden Victory speech was positive politeness strategy. Positive politeness used in the speech so that make good communications between the speaker and the hearer and also make the situations comfortable, relax and make a pleasant situation in doing communication.

Abstract

Pengabdian ini adalah untuk mengetahui motivasi, inovasi dan kreativitas guru dalam mengelola kelas untuk mengatasi kejenuhan mengajar guru di PAUD KB Bandar Hinalang Kecamatan Purba, Kabupaten Simalungun dan juga untuk mengetahui gejala kejenuhan belajar yang dihadapi oleh siswa - siswa PAUD KB Bandar Hinalang, Kab Simalungun. Jenis pengabdian ini adalah pengabdian lapangan dengan pendekatan kualitatif studi kasus. Subyek pengabdian ini adalah guru PAUD Se – Kecamatan Purba, Kab Simalungun. Teknik pengumpulan data yang digunakan adalah observasi, wawancara, dan dokumentasi, sedangkan teknik analisis data yang digunakan adalah reduksi data, penyajian data, dan penarikan kesimpulan. Adapun hasil pengabdian ini menunjukkan bahwa motivasi,inovasi dan kreativitas guru dalam mengelola kelas untuk mengatasi kejenuhan guru mengajar di PAUD KB Bandar Hinalang Kecamatan Purba, Kab Simalungun ada tiga point temuan, yaitu:1) Guru memiliki persamaan dan perbedaan perilaku/karakter sehingga memiliki kemampuan dan metode mengajar yang berbeda, 2) Kesuksesan dalam mengajar tergantung pada motivasi guru, 3) guru harus inovatif dan kreatif dalam merancang media pembelajaran. Pengabdian ini dapat memberikan sumbangsi kepada guru-guru untuk meninjau ulang kembali motivasi, inovasi dan kreativitas guru dalam kegiatan belajar mengajar.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the participation performance of students' basic teaching skills in microteaching. This quantitative study utilized questionnaire to collect the data. The data is processed based on a standardized scale in the assessment of basic teaching skills using the Likert scale. Based on the distribution of 32 respondents viewed from 7 indicators of opening skills, namely indicators of attracting attention and generating motivation, 23 respondents received a scale of 5 (very good) with an achievement of 0.68. The skills to close the lesson are indicators providing references, showing links, and making summaries. The visible scale is 2 (less) with 27 respondents, and the level of achievement is 0.84. In general, the skills of opening lessons are in a good category, but the skills of closing lessons are still lacking. Observation of the skill to explain, it appears that the achievement score indicators of motivation and clarity (use of language, intonation) got a score of 5 (very good) from 25 respondents, with an achievement of 0.78. In detail, the weaknesses can be seen in the organization of insufficient material explanations, providing relevant examples, and applying fun learning methods. Questions or feedback are only memory and memorization, as seen in 27 respondents who got a scale of 2 (less) with an achievement of 0.87. It means that microteaching provides positive effect in helping them become more confident, gain experience, teach a lesson effectively, communicate effectively, wrap up a lesson, manage a classroom, plan ahead, and manage their time effectively.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of the CTL (contextual teaching learning) learning model and inclined plane learning media on the physics learning outcomes of class X IPA students at SMA Negeri 1 Siborongborong. This type of quasi-experimental research, research design with the provision of pretest and posttest. The research population was 252 students while the research sample was 72 students. The research sample was taken using purposive sampling technique. The research instrument uses a test. Data analysis with the -T test using SPPS 24. 00 for windows. Data from hypothesis testing for the influence of the CTL (contextual teaching learning) learning model and inclined plane learning media with a sig = 0. 000 <0. 05 and a tcount of 53. 70 > ttable 1. 688. So that the conclusion drawn is that there is an influence of the CTL learning model (contextual teaching learning) and inclined plane learning media on the physics learning outcomes of class X IPA students at SMA Negeri 1 Siborongborong
