Abstract

FTIR spectroscopy combined with canonical variate analysis was used for differentiation of java tea (Orthosiphon stamineus) according to their geographical origin. FTIR spectra of all java tea samples were acquired in the mid infrared region (wavenumber range 4000-400 cm-1). Preprocessing signal of FTIR spectra has been carried out prior to canonical variate analysis by standard normal variate. Combination of FTIR spectra in the region 1800-900 cm-1with canonical variate analysis has the power to differentiate java tea samples in terms of geographical origin. The developed method could be used for identification of geographical origin of java tea based on the samples used in this study.

Abstract

The study aims at observing analitically of Mudharabah Contract Finance on islamic economy system. The study uses descriptive qualitative analysis with historic-juridical approach. The data collecting technique in the study is based on literature such as book, journal, and other scientific works which is  either related or unrelated with the study. The result of analysis ndicates that multilateral mudharabah contract finance is based on MUI and National Islamic Law Committee instruction with mortgage (al-Rahn) analogy (al-Qias)-based argument. The National Islamic Law Committee instruction is cross with the classical scientists who does not determine the mudharabah contract finance for either bilateral or multilateral.  Keywords: Musyarakah, Mudharabah, Mudharabah musyarakah

Abstract

Komposisi kimia yang terkandung dalam ekstrak obat bahan alam merupakan suatu komposisi yang kompleks, dengan demikian pengujian keotentikannya tidak dapat dilakukan melalui pedekatan tunggal.  Salah satu teknik analisis yang dapat menggambarkan secara menyeluruh karakteristik kimia suatu bahan adalah teknik spektroskopi FTIR. Spektra FTIR dihasilkan dari interaksi antara energi sinar inframerah dan komponen kimia penyusun campuran bahan, sehingga suatu spektra FTIR merupakan indentitas khas campuran tersebut. Keotentikan komposisi suatu obat bahan alam pada studi  ini ditentukan berdasarkan pada analisis komponen utama spektra inframerahnya.  Studi dilakukan pada obat bahan alam/fitofarmaka penurun tekanan darah (Tensigard® : terdiri dari ekstrak seledri dan ekstrak daun kumis kucing). Pengukuran spektra inframerah dilakukan terhadap formula obat yang persentase komposisinya ditentukan melalui simplex lattice design. Selain itu pengukuran spektra inframerah juga dilakukan terhadap formula obat dengan mengganti (adulterasi) ekstrak kumis kucing dengan obat sintetis (reserpin) dan ekstrak sambiloto. Berdasarkan plot antara skor komponen utama pertama dan skor komponen utama kedua menunjukkan plot tersebut dapat digunakan untuk mendeteksi komposisi obat, tetapi tidak dapat mendeteksi adanya adulterasi komposisi oleh bahan lain.   Kata Kunci : model otentikasi fitofarmaka, simplex lattice design, komponen utama, tensigard

Abstract

The potency of Fourier transformed infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) combined with chemometric method for determining the total flavonoid content of tempuyung (Sonchus arvensis L) has been investigated. Partial least squares regression (PLSR) was used to build a prediction model based on the relationship between concentration of total flavonoids obtained from the reference method (AlCl3) and FTIR spectrum. Application of PLSR in the determination of total flavonoids content in tempuyung gave moderate value for goodness of fit of the model with r calibration = 0974, r validation = 0742, Standard Error Calibration = 0023, Root Mean Square Error Calibration = 0023, Standard Error Prediction = 0078, Root Mean Square Prediction Error = 0076, and bias = -0001 using FTIR derivative spectrum segment 1. From these results, combination of FTIR spectrum and PLSR can be used for the prediction of total flavonoids content in tempuyung.

Abstract

Puji dan syukur kami ucapkan kepada Tuhan YME atas rahmat dan hidayahnya, sehingga Pusat Studi Biofarmaka LPPM IPB dapat menerbitkan Jurnal Jamu Indonesia Volume 1 No 2 sebagai media diseminasi penelitian terkait jamu Indonesia. Jurnal ini nantinya diharapkan dapat menambah informasi menyeluruh tentang jamu dari kegiatan hulu hingga hilirnya. Jamu merupakan warisan budaya Indonesia dan telah digunakan sejak berabad abad yang lalu. Jamu merupakan istilah lain dari obat herbal yang terbuat dari tumbuhan obat segar atau kering di Indonesia untuk kesehatan dan kecantikan. Penggunaannya saat ini menunjukkan kecenderungan yang semakin meningkat dan tren ini juga tampak dalam skala global. Lebih jauh, Sistem Kesehatan Nasional Indonesia menyatakan bahwa pengembangan dan peningkatan obat tradisional dalam hal ini jamu ditujukan agar diperoleh obat tradisional yang bermutu tinggi, aman, memiliki khasiat nyata yang teruji secara ilmiah dan dimanfaatkan secara luas, baik untuk pengobatan sendiri oleh masyarakat maupun digunakan dalam pelayanan kesehatan formal. Tiga isu kunci yaitu kualitas, keamanan dan khasiat untuk pengembangan produk jamu hanya dapat dicapai apabila prioritas diberikan sejak awal proses pengembangannya. Dalam beberapa tahun terakhir, isu kualitas, keamanan dan khasiat telah menjadi fokus perhatian para ilmuwan yang bekerja dalam keilmuan terkait. Seiring dengan banyaknya penelitian-penelitian pengembangan Jamu ini, hasil kajian yang didapatkan tentunya akan memerlukan wadah untuk diseminasi agar hasil kajian tersebut dapat diakses oleh para pihak yang memerlukan. Jurnal Jamu Indonesia dapat menjadi fasilitas bagi para peneliti dan ilmuwan untuk memudahkan pendistribusian informasi ilmu pengetahuan mengenai jamu melalui tulisan-tulisan yang dapat dipublikasi. Semua hasil karya tersebut akan diarsipkan sebagai dokumentasi berharga demi terjaganya informasi yang dapat menjadi sumber pengembangan ilmu pengetahuan di masa depan. Abstract

Efficacy and quality of medicinal plant extracts depend on chemical composition therein. Therefore, to ensure its efficacy orquality, the chemical composition of extracts have to be analyzed based on its chemical marker or its chemical pattern. This study tried to develop a method for extracts quality assay based on infrared spectrum in fingerprint region and extracts inhibition activity to xanthine oxidase. Five extracts from kunyit (Curcuma domestica), temulawak ( C xanthorriza), jahe (Zingiber officina/e), temukunci (Boesenbergia pandurata), and cabe jawa (Piper retrofractum) were tested to inhibit xanthine oxidase activity. The bioactive data of extracts and its infrared spectrum was analyzed using PCA and PLS-DA (partial least squarediscriminant analysis). Almost all extracts that were tested showed inhibition activity to xanthine oxidase activity, except the extract of jahe. The result showed that PCA can group all of extract into each of their region. Meanwhile, PLS-DA has shown to be a good prediction model for classifying extracts based on fingerprint region of its mR Spectrum and its biological activity. Abstract

There is a difference in the selling price for cassava, taro, and wheat flour, with taro flour having a higher price. It could be a reason for adulterating the taro flour from the other two flours and reducing quality. This study aims to distinguish the three types of flour using the near-infrared (NIR) spectra combined with chemometrics. The NIR spectra of all samples were measured at a wavelength of 1000-2500 nm. The multivariate analysis used was principal component analysis (PCA), and PCA followed with discriminant analysis (DA). The preliminary process of the signal using area normalization was carried out before the multivariate analysis. The PCA results showed that most of the samples were grouped in their respective groups except for two samples, namely 1 sample of taro flour and 1 sample of cassava flour. Meanwhile, the PCA-DA results using seven main components showed that the three samples were grouped well. DA validation was carried out using the cross-validation method, showing that the samples could be identified into their respective groups. Therefore, a combination of NIR spectrum and chemometric analysis can be used to differentiate cassava, taro, and wheat flour

Abstract

A new simple and effective routine analytical method for quantification of curcuminoids in Curcuma xanthorrhiza was developed by high-performance liquid chromatography. This method based on chromatographic fingerprint combined with a quantitative analysis of multi-components by single marker (QAMS). Curcumin was selected as an internal marker for the determination of two other similar compounds, i.e. bisdemethoxycurcumin and demethoxycurcumin, by using the relative coefficient factor (RCF). Excellent linearity was obtained for each component (r2 > 0.9998), and the recovery of extraction methods were within 100.23-103.95%. The precision of the method was good at inter-day and intra-day analysis (RSD < 4.0%). The stability of RCFs was good under various chromatographic conditions with RSD < 1%, and the ratio of retention time was used to locate each compound. The quantification of curcuminoids between QAMS and external standard method (ESM) proved the consistency and similarity of the two method (RSD < 2%). This study demonstrated that QAMS could be used as a routine method for quality control of curcuminoids in C. xanthorrhiza. This method successfully proved accurate, stable, more effective and simple than external standard method.

Abstract

Total phenolic content and antioxidant activity from six Indonesian ornamental plants have been studied. Those plants are Yellow Allamanda (Allamanda cathartica L.), Bigleaf Hydrangea (Hydrangea macrophylla (Thunb.) Ser.), Crystal Anthurium (Anthurium crystallinum Linden & André), Kapok Bush (Aerva sanguinolenta (L.) Blume), Siamese Calypha (Acalypha siamensis Oliv. Ex Gage), and Wishbone Flower/Bluewings (Torenia fournieri Linden ex E. Fourn). Extraction was carried out by maceration using ethanol as the extracting solvent. Total phenolic content was determined by the Folin Ciocalteu method. Antioxidant activity was measured using the 2.2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH), reducing power, and cupric ion reducing antioxidant capacity (CUPRAC) method. Based on the results obtained, Bigleaf Hydrangea has the highest yield and total phenolic content about 15.45% and 13.86 mg gallic acid/g dry powder respectively. Siamese Acalypha leaves have the highest antioxidant activity for all methods used namely DPPH, reducing power, and CUPRAC with a value of 180.45; 202,17; and 589.90 µmol trolox/g dry powder, respectively. This indicates that antioxidant activity is not only derived from phenolic compounds because Siamese Acalypha leaves which have lower total phenolic levels than Bigleaf Hydrangea leaves provide higher antioxidant capacity.

Abstract

The aim of this study was to determine the yield and phytochemicals, antioxidant activity, and sunscreen of the Gyrinops versteegii leaf extracts. The leaf simplicia was extracted using soxhletation method  with   multilevel polarities  of solvent (n-hexane, ethyl acetate, and metanol). The analysis of phytochemical extracts has been carried out the qualitatively and quantitatively. The antioxidant activity testing was performed in vitro through the effective concentration (EC50) extract in capturing DPPH radicals. Sunscreen activity has been done through testing sun protection factor (SPF). The result showed that the  yield of n-hexane extract, ethyl acetate, and methanol extracts  were 7.83, 5.46, and 6.77% respectively. The phytochemical analysis showed that  the ethyl acetate and methanol extracts were strongly detected containing antioxidant compounds such as p-hydroquinone, flavonoid, and tannins with the total phenol of the  ethyl acetate and methanol extracts  were 3.40 and 4.27% respectively. The n-hexane extract detected contains weakly the antioxidant compounds with  the total phenol was 0.45%.  The methanol extract is the highest antioxidant activity  (EC50 14.46 μg ml-1) and has ultra sunscreen activity (SPF>15).
