Abstract

Shoreline changes are processes that occur due to the influence of coastal conditions in seeking the balance of the impacts that occur from natural factors and human activities. The coastal area of ​​Tanah Laut Regency South Kalimantan covers along the west coast and south coast region. Physically this region is influenced by oceanographic dynamics of the Java Sea and the Barito River runoff that changes seasonally. This study aims to determine the shoreline changes of the West Coast area of Tanah Laut Regency, South Kalimantan. The data used are Landsat 8 imagery acquisition in 2016 to describe the current condition and Landsat imagery 7 the acquisition year 2003 as an initial condition. Data were analyzed to determine the shoreline changes that had accretion or abrasion of the coastline. The results showed that the coastline of the West Coast area of Tanah Laut regency experienced changes in abrasion and accretion conditions. Overall the coastal areas of Tanah Laut Regency dominated accretion than abrasion. In particular, cell numbers 3 and 4 have been recorded as abrasion areas; even the cells are near the estuary of Barito River.

Abstract

The study of shoreline changes during 1990 - 2008 in the delta of the River Jeneberang, Makassar was conducted by evaluating sediment transport into and out of a cell. Longshore sediment transport was computed by considering the influence of heights and angles of the breaking waves. Results of calculation of sediment transport showed that the dominant of sediment transport was to the north during the arrival of the southwest and west waves, and to the south when the wave coming from the northwest. Comparison between shore profiles resulting from model and coastline satellite imagery showed similarity. The difference between the two tend to be occurred at the head land part of the shoreline. This was due to complexity of coastal dynamic at the area. The results of the 19 years shoreline simulation showed that there was a tendency of abrasion at the upsteam head land part as the wave energy tend to converge and accretion at the bay part as the wave energy tend to diverge. Abrasion mainly occurred at Tanjung Bunga (head land) where the coast retreat 181.1 m. Accretion occur in the bay area (Tanjung Merdeka) where the coast advance to the sea for about 59.8 m. The shoreline tend to be stable when the profile was straight such as Barombong Coast.Keywords: abrasion, accretion, sediment transport, shoreline changes.

Abstract

A two-dimensional model to investigate the pattern of current in estuary of Banyuasin has been developed. The properties of tide, wind, and current were measured to understand the dynamics of estuarine environment.  Based on the information, the model of current simulation were performed.  The simulation of model shows that offshore flow during flood tide and inland flow during ebb tide.  Maximum current speed was recorded during mean-sea-level towards high tide of 0.8716 m s-1, while the minimum was 0.0661 m s-1 observed during ebb tide. The difference current speed between model and recorded is 0.04 m s-1.   Keywords  : Modeling, Current, Tidal, Banyuasin.   ABSTRAK Model dua dimensi dibangun untuk melihat pola arus di perairan pesisir Banyuasin.  Karakteristik pasang surut, angin dan arus diukur untuk memahami dinamika lingkungan estuari.  Berdasarkan karakteristik parameter tersebut, model dan simulasi pola arus dibangun.  Berdasarkan hasil simulasi diperoleh gambaran bahwa pola arus menuju laut saat periode pasang dan menuju daratan saat periode surut.  Kecepatan arus maksimum diperoleh saat mean sea level menuju pasang tertinggi dengan kecepatan 0.8716  m s-1, dan kecepatan arus minimum diperoleh saat kondisi surut terendah sebesar 0.0661 m s-1.  Perbedaan kecepatan arus hasil model dengan hasil pengukuran adalah sebesar 0.04 m s-1.   Kata Kunci  : Pemodelan, Arus, Pasang Surut, Banyuasin

Abstract

There is an inter-annual phenomenon in the Indian Ocean that occurs because of the interaction between atmosphere and ocean are known Indian Ocean Dipole (IOD). IOD is a bipolar structure that characterized by the difference of sea surface temperature to normal. The objectives of this study is to know the characteristic of physical oceanography in the eastern part of Indian Ocean during the formation phase, maturation phase and decay phases of positive IOD. The second objective was to determine the comparative characteristic of physical oceanography in the eastern Indian Ocean between the positive IOD in different years. The strengthening of the South Equatorial Current in transitional seasons I (March-May) followed by early cooling of the SST which is indicated by the formation phase of IOD. At the Southeast monsoon (June to August) and the beginning of the season transition II, there is a visible presence of upwelling in the south of Java, which is then further extends to the peak in September (maturation phase) and begin to disappear in October followed by warming of the SST on the East of Indian Ocean in November (decay phase).Keywords: Indian Ocean Dipole, upwelling, Empirical Orthogonal Function (EOF) analysis, Eastern Indian Ocean

Abstract

Thermal dispersion model based on the hydrodynamics model was applied on PLTGU Cilegon (electric power industry based on gas and steam) at the coast of Margasari, Pulo Ampel District, Serang-Banten. This PLTGU used around 60.000 mP3P/hour of seawater as cooling water system. Therefore, it produced water with high temperature of about 5 PoPC higher than the sourounding of seawater temperature. This high water temperature was flowed out into the coastal waters. This study tried to predict their distribution according to southeast and northeast monsoon. Model verification was conducted both to hydrodynamics component (tide and current) and water temperature. The verification results show good enough patterns between the model results and field measurement.Key words: Bay of Banten, cooling water system, thermal dispersion, hydrodynamics model

Abstract

When wind-wave generated on deep water propagates into shallow water they will be transformed into several processes such as refraction, shoaling, reflection, diffraction, and finally collapsing. This research has objective to analyze the pattern of wave transformation which pro pagate into Bau-Bau coastal waters by using RCPWave Model as a numerical model solution to predict wave condition within the surf zone. The model showed that the wave transformation at Bau -Bau Coastal waters was influenced by coastal morphology and characteristic that was more open to the west (to the opensea) than to the east coast (bordered by Buton Strait). Wave transformation occurred from both sides, either from west or east side. When wave were broken at the western coast the wave high from west and east were 1.9 m and 0.5 respectively. At the eastern coast were 1.0 m and 0.7 m. The highest wave high occurred at head land or peninsula. Abstract

The Java Coastal Current (JCC) is valuable information since its supplies water mass to South Indonesian water. The data analysis was done using temperature, salinity and depth informations from CTD (Conductivity, Temperature, and Depth). Those informations was calculated based on Neuman and Pierson (1966) with 600 db in reference level, in order to obtain the dynamic topography and geostrophy velocity. The results showed that there was a dynamic depth divergence between shore and the off shore, both was occured in Northwest monsoon and Southeast monsoon. Hence it was acting as a trigger of the geostrophy current toward Southeast with maximum velocity was 18.81 cms -1 and 1.53 sv of transport volume.

Abstract

Youtefa Bay is one of the potential natural recources, is located on the western side of Jayapura City,Papua province.The waters has beenutilized for fishery, transportation and ecotourisme.Youtefa Bay surroundings are settlements where the most of residents are fishermen and farmers.The aim of this study is to determine the pollution level of the Youtefa Bay,approached by pollution index method.The results showed that the water condition of Youtefa Bay was slightly to moderately polluted.Due to pollution, it is therefore very importance to periodically monitor the water quality of the Youtefa Bay to maintain its sustainability.

Abstract

Semarang waterfront city is a unique ecosystem with a great variety of potentialities as well as problems in the utilization of natural resources, particularly in the trade-off between economic growth and ecological preservation. Based on those conditions, the research is mainly focused upon designing some scenarios on environmental management, which ensure a profitable synergy of all stakeholders without sacrificing the principles of environmental conservation. Secondly, it is to design an interaction model among variables in the bio-physic, economy and social subsystems, in order to increase sources of learning and sustainable use of natural resources. Using a dynamic system, the main inputs of the designed model are the feasibility of natural resources management as a product of extended cost-benefit analysis (ECBA), the suitable option of natural resources management, as an input of comparative performance index (CPI), the integrated sustainability of using multidimensional scaling, the suitable land-use planning through geographic information system (GIS). From those main inputs the waterfront city environmental management policy can be observed as an output of analytical hierarchy processes (AHP).  The feasibility study shows that all of natural resources management options are feasible to be developed, where sustainable management, sustainable harvest and beach protected areas depict the most feasible management options.  Based on the results of the integrated sustainability research using multidimension scaling, the management of waterfront cities has to prioritize attention to the five important factors, i.e., (1) the issues of community empowerment; (2) the rate of land utilization; (3) the contribution of the industrial sector; (4) the availability of electricity and; (5) the availability of community organizations. Abstract

Ethnooceanography and the intersection of shar'i aspects to determination of the early of Ramadan and Shawwal by Joguru Sultanate of Tidore. The determination of the early of the new month of Ramadan and Shawwal was very important for Muslims because it is related to the time of worship. Judge syara 'The Sultanate of Tidore (Joguru) has long applied the method of determining the early month of Hijri (Ramadan and Shawwal) through tidal movement observed on "akebai" included in ethooceanography and called Joguru Method (MJ). Hilal that has never been seen in Tidore and its surrounding areas in the long-term cycle of moon (34 years) caused its early moon to be inapplicable due to non-fulfillment of the requirement of hisab (hadith). MJ makes observation (rukyat) change of tidal movement on "akebai" is "ijtihād". The appropriateness of the scientific aspects of ethnoocaenography and the intersection of the shar'i aspects make it a comparative method of determining the beginning of the new month of Hijri in astronomy (hilāl). Required the expansion of the meaning of the “hilāl” as an indicator of the beginning of the month of the Hijri calendar.[]Ethnooceanography dan titik temu aspek Syar’i dalam penentuan awal bulan Ramadhan dan Syawal oleh Joguru Kesultanan Tidore. Penentuan awal bulan baru Ramadhan dan Syawal sangat penting bagi umat Islam karena berkaitan dengan waktu ibadah. Hakim syara’ Kesultanan Tidore (Joguru) telah lama mengaplikasikan metode penentuan awal bulan baru Hijriah (Ramadhan dan Syawal) melalui pergerakan pasang surut yang terpantau pada “akebai” termasuk dalam ethooceanography dan disebut dengan Metode Joguru (MJ). Hilal yang tidak pernah terlihat di wilayah Tidore dan sekitarnya selama siklus jangka panjang (34 tahun) menyebabkan hisab awal bulan tidak dapat diaplikasikan akibat tidak terpenuhinya persyaratan hisab (hadis). MJ melakukan peng­amatan (rukyat) perubahan tinggi air pada “akebai” adalah “ijtihad”. Terdapat ke­sesuaian aspek sains dari ethnoocaenography serta titik temu aspek syar’i yang menjadikan MJ berpotensi sebagai metode utama sekaligus sebagai metode pem­banding dari metode umum dalam penentuan awal bulan baru Hijriah. Diperlukan perluasan makna kata “hilal” sebagai indikator awal bulan baru penanggalan Hijriah.
