Abstract

This research was carried out in July to August 2019. It aimed to learn the shape and the abundance of microplastics in the coastal area of Bungus Bay, West Sumatra Province. Survey method was applied and PVC pipe was used to collect sediment samples from three different stations with three sampling points on each station. The results showed that the abundance of microplastics were significantly different between stations, except at different sediment depths and tidal zones (it ranged from 191.11 - 301.11; 221.48 - 236.30; and 226.67 - 231.11 particles per kg of dry sediments consecutively). In addition, the microplastic with fiber type was higher than the two other types, such as films and fragments.

Abstract

This research was conducted in Benan Island, Katang Bidara Subdistrict, Lingga Regency, Riau Islands Province in February 2020. This study aimed to determine the value of density, biomass and carbon stock in seagrass E. acoroides. The method used in this study is a survey method, where the data collected is considered to represent the waters of Benan Island. The density of seagrass E.acoroides in the study location ranged from 22.67 to 31.22 individuals/m2. E.acoroides seagrass is divided into two parts, namely the top of the substrate or above ground biomass (Agb) and the bottom of the substrate or bellows biomass (Bgb). The average value of biomass seagrass ranged from 1,113.27-4,412.24 g/m2. The highest carbon stock was in the rhizoma section at Station I (2,134.46 gC/m2) and the lowest was in the leaf section at Station II (363.08 gC/ m2). Biomass and carbon stock in the Bgb section is higher than the Agb portion

Abstract

This study aims to determine the distribution of total suspended solid concentration (TSS) in the waters around TPI Dumai. Water samples were taken from 12 sampling point from the waters during high and low tides to determine TSS concentration. The concentration of total suspended solids ranges from 60-130 mg/l. The concentration is relatively higher (>80 mg/l) in the area that is close to residential areas and TPI. The highest concentration of total suspended solids was 117 mg/l found in waters with a depth of 1-3 m, while the lowest was 81 mg/l found at the sampling point of 5,9. The distribution of chlorophyll-a concentration is relatively higher around the coast which is around 0.476-0.178 mg/l, and it's lower off the shore which is around 0.080-0.090 mg/l. The chlorophyll-a concentration is lower in waters far from the coast because there is no direct nutrient supply from the land. The regression analysis indicate that Tss and chlorophyll-a has a weak relationship between the two variables relatively weak but they are still affecting each other.

Abstract

This research was carried out in March 2020 to identify the type and abundance of microplastics and the relationship between the abundance of microplastics and the size (weight and length) of Telescopium telescopium in the coastal waters of Karimun Island, Riau Islands Province. Tanjung Balai Karimun has densely populated settlements and has many tourist attractions, so it is suspected that a large amount of plastic used is wasted into marine waters and fragmented into microplastics. The method used in this research is the survey method. The results showed that the abundance of microplastics in T.telescopium ranged from 6.9 - 12 particles/individual. The types of microplastics found were fibre, film and fragments, with the dominant type being Fiber. The abundance of fibre type microplastics has a strong relationship with weight and a moderate to length relationship. The abundance of film and fragment microplastics had a weak relationship with weight and length

Abstract

This research was conducted in July-October 2020. Observation and data collection of Avicennia alba growth was carried out in the mangrove forest rehabilitation area, Kedaburapat, Kepulauan Meranti Regency. The purpose of this study was to analyze the growth of A. alba as on rehabilitation project based on the height and diameter planted in the coastal area of Kedaburapat, Kepulauan Meranti Regency. A survey method was conducted to obtain primary data. The data collected included the height and diameter of A. alba stems as well as measurements of water quality. The results of the research showed that the average height increase A. alba on the transect was 7.59-19.86 cm/month. The average value of the increased diameter based on the transect was 1.05-3.11 mm/month. Meanwhile, the average height by zone was 8.07-16.13 cm/month. The average value of the increased diameter by zone was 1.03-2.70 mm/month

Abstract

Marine ecotourism is a type of special interest tourism that has marine-related activities, both under the sea and above sea level. Marine ecotourism can be one of the key factors in supporting the protection of cultural values that live in society, sustainability, and the quality of the environment. In tourism development, there are two approaches, namely mass tourism development and sustainable tourism. The study was conducted in February - April 2021 on the Pandan Beach of Central Tapanuli Regency, the Province of North Sumatera. The aims of the study were to determine the marine ecotourism potential and to know the perception of stakeholders. The method used in this study is a survey method, with respondents comprising of local people, tourists, business tourism, and policymakers. Water measuring observed includes water brightness, temperature, salinity, acidity (pH), and the flow velocity carried. The results showed that the tourist attraction at Pandan Beach includes enjoying the panorama, sunset, traditional culinary, sports activity, mangrove and the ecologically at Pandan Beach is white sand with clear waters and have beautiful panorama with lush pine tree vegetation, as well as activities that can be done such as fishing, swimming, boating, and walking around the beach. Tourism Suitability Index values at stations I, II, and III were 96%, 95%, and 71%, respectively. Pandan Beach has the potential as a marine ecotourism area such as natural beauty that is pristine, natural and so exotic

Abstract

This research was conducted in February 2021 in Pandan Waters, Central Tapanuli Regency, North Sumatra Province. The purpose of this study was to analyze the concentration of nitrate and phosphate, analyze the composition distribution and abundance of planktonic diatoms, and analyze the relationship between nitrate and phosphate concentrations with an abundance of planktonic diatoms at different depths in Pandan Waters. The method used is the survey method. The results of the analysis of vertical concentrations of nitrate and phosphate in Pandan waters tend to increase with increasing depth, while the results of vertical analysis of planktonic diatom abundance in Pandan waters tend to decrease with increasing depth. The results of a simple linear regression test showed that the relationship between nitrate concentration and abundance of planktonic diatoms at different depths had a strong (negative) relationship, while the relationship between phosphate concentration and planktonic diatom abundance at different depths had a very weak (negative) relationship

Abstract

This research was carried out in January 2021 in the Intertidal Zone of Sambungo Village, Silaut District, Pesisir Selatan Regency, West Sumatra Province. The purpose of this study was to determine the size variation of the bivalve, the distribution pattern of the bivalve, the effect of the type of sediment fraction on the size, and the distribution of the bivalve in the intertidal zone. The method used in this research is a survey method which is carried out by direct observation and sampling in the field. Bivalve samples obtained were identified at the Marine Biology Laboratory and Sediment Fraction Analysis was carried out at the Chemical Analysis Laboratory, Faculty of Fisheries and Marine, Universitas Riau. Based on the results of the study, the highest number of bivalves was at station 1 as many as 11 individuals. The distribution pattern of macrozoobenthos in the intertidal zone of Sambungo Village ranges from 3.86 to 5.07 with the highest morisita index value being at station 1. The highest percentage of sediment fraction is 96.53% in the lower zone and the highest organic matter content is at station 1 of the lower zone. with a total percentage of 6.65%. Based on the criteria for the morisita index at station 1, station 2, and station 3 with an Id>1 value, it can be concluded that the distribution of Bivalvia in the intertidal zone in Sambungo Village is clustered

Abstract

This research was conducted in May 2022 in the coastal waters of Lalang Village, Siak Regency. This study aims to analyze the abundance and diversity of phytoplankton. The method used is the survey method by determining the sampling location by purposive sampling. Based on the results of the study, 6 species of phytoplankton were found in the coastal waters of Lalang Village, Siak Regency, namely Nitzschia sp, Isthmia sp, Navicula, Dactylococcopsis sp, Flagilaria sp, and Synedra sp. The average value of abundant phytoplankton at station 1 ranged from 1,938.61 to 479.68; at station 2 it ranged from 3,046.40 to 479.68; at station 3 it ranged around 1,384.72 to 479.68. Based on the results, the abundance of phytoplankton at each station was significant.
