Abstract

The farm households face different risk on decision-making of resource allocation, especially production and price risk. The objectives of this paper are: (1) to analyze the effects of input allocation on the production risk, and (2) to analyze the influence of product price and production risk, incorporating the household economic behavior, especially on decision-making in resource allocation. Generalized autoregressive conditional heteroskedasticity (GARCH) model was used to analyze the production variance. The estimation of production function showed that the current production variance was influenced by the production variance of the previous period. Pesticide had a risk-reducing effect on the variance of production. On the contrary, land and nitrogen fertilizer had risk-inducing effect on the variance of production.

Abstract

Study about efficient market hypothesis is a common object for many financial researchers. Nevertheless, there are still limited studies about futures contract market particularly in the emerging market. The purposes of this study were to test the weak form efficiency of the Olein futures contract in the Jakarta Futures Exchange and to seek factors that can affect the fluctuation of Olein futures contract price. ARIMA and GARCH models were used as the basis for the analyses. Results of the study indicated that using weekly data, the weak form efficient market (random walk) hypothesis was rejected for the Olein futures contract in the Jakarta Futures Exchange, meaning that the market was in efficient. This implies that some one will be able to outperform the market using technical analysis for predicting future price changes. Furthermore, using monthly data, the fluctuation of Olein futures contract returnis influenced significantly by interest rate, exchange rate and CPO price.   Keywords : Jakarta Futures Exchange, Efficient Market Hypothesis, ARIMA, GARCH

Abstract

ABSTRACTThe purpose of this study was to analyze rejected product in slaughterhouse division using total quality management approach. The secondary data were collected from the company archives and judgmental sampling was used to collect primary data from six experienced respondents. The analysis method used was total quality management, include stratification, Pareto diagrams, control charts, fishbone diagrams, and quality function deployment. The findings of this study showed that the use of line production system by the slaughterhouse to produce the product; where products’ redness/bruises, size uniformity, bloodless feature, incorrect delivery, delivery delay, and damaged package were the cause of product rejection. The strategies ordered based on the priority to improve the management quality are: tools repair and replacement, creating quality based projects, build an information system between the production lines, training and seminar. The managerial implications of the study suggested the slaughterhouse to replace or repair the plucker, scalder and automatic weighing machine. Abstract

ABSTRACTThe purposes of this study were to analyze the factors that affect the production of cocoa, identify the marketing channels of cocoa, analyze marketing margins received by marketing institutions, and determine the part of the price received by farmers. This study used a survey method to cocoa farmers and large traders (collectors). The analysis of production used Cobb-Douglas function while performance analysis was used to analyze the structure of behavioral marketing and market diversity. The results showed that factors affecting cocoa production in the district of Padang Pariaman and significantly influential as the input are labor, manure, chemical fertilizers, land area, number of crop yield and farmer’s education. The performance of cocoa marketing in Padang Pariaman District was not efficient, based on indicators of marketing margins, small parts of prices received by farmers and farmers markets not yet integrated with market traders in the district level. In the cocoa marketing activities in Padang Pariaman District, the largest margin was received by the village merchant marketing channel III. The amount of prices received by farmers can be determined from the marketing margin. If the part of the marketing margin is higher, the part of prices received by farmers will be smaller, as the case in marketing channels I and III. So the marketing channel II provides the most part of prices for the cocoa farmers in Padang Pariaman district. To increase the production and marketing of cocoa in Padang Pariaman District, several approaches could be implemented such as coaching, strengthening and empowering farmer groups that already exist.
