Abstract

In this study, polyester-fiber heliconia biocomposites has been created and tested on its mechanical properties. Biocomposites was manufactured begins by separating the fibers.  it  consists  of  three  stages,  namely  chlorization,  alkaline  leaching  and extraction.  After  that,  the  manufacture  of  composites  made  with  Hand  Lay-up techniques.  Three  samples  with  variations in  fiber content,  ie without  the addition of fiber,  0.54  g  and  2.08  g  fiber.  Characterization  of  samples  includes  tensile  test, hardness,  and  impact.  The test results known that  the  tensile  strength  and  hardness increased  with  increasing  the  amount  of fiber  heliconia.  Impact  test  shows  sample values optimum working temperature is 10°C

Abstract

Development of Fiber-Optic Humidity Sensor Probe with Gelatin Cladding. Humidity sensor based on optical fiberwith gelatin cladding has been developed. In this humidity sensor probe, the origin cladding of optical fiber is replacedby gelatin coating as humidity sensitive cladding. Testing of the optical fiber sensor probe was conducted by measuringof light intensity transmitted on the optical fiber probe for each variation of different humidity treatments. Response ofthe optical fiber sensor probe measured from 42%RH to 99%RH, the results show an optical transmission curve variedwith relative humidity (RH). Optical transmission in the optical fiber probe increase with RH value at a specificwavelength range, that is from green to red spectrum bands (500 nm - 700 nm), where a significant variation from 600nm to 650 nm in yellow to red spectrum bands. Wavelength where is a maximum intensity of optical transmissionoccurs at 610 nm. Therefore, the optical fiber humidity sensor probe could response humidity form 42%RH to 99%RHwith the best response in humidity range of 60%RH to 72%RH that is have a good linearity and sensitivity.Keywords: humidity sensor, fiber-optic sensor, gelatin, swelling

Abstract

The world's energy needs generally come from non-renewable sources. In other circumstances, some research on renewable energy is being developed from a variety of different sources, one of which is biomass. Biomass changes the energy system towards the modernization of the bioenergy system by utilizing the concept of biochemical systems (BESs). A microbial fuel cell is known as one of the renewable technologies that convert biomass with the help of microbes to produce electricity. This research is based on a microbial fuel cell based on ecoenzyme Citrus reticulata known as Ecoenzyme fuel cell to determine the electrical value (voltage, current, and power density). Ecoenzyme was made from orange peel waste, molasses, and water with a ratio of 3: 1: 10 and fermented for a month. Meanwhile, the electrode device used was a pencil graphite. Some treatments were carried out to optimize the performance of the system based on the number of electrodes (one pair and three pairs), and the stirring conditions, stirring at 200 rpm and without stirring (0 rpm). The EFC system was run for four weeks (600 hours) with the highest voltage obtained at 650 mV and current at 29.55 mA. The ecoenzyme produced the most significant power density of 750 W/m2 in the treatment of 3 electrode pairs with a stirring speed of 200 rpm. The influence of electrodes and stirring in the MFC system upsurged the electrical value output by 53.7% for a pair of electrodes and 142% for three electrode pairs. Further development will continue to be done to improve the performance and output of the Ecoenzyme fuel cell system as a future renewable energy source in Indonesia.

Abstract

The Ti1-xCoxO2 thin films have been successfully deposited on Silicon (Si) substrates by metalorganic chemical vapor deposition (MOCVD). The Ti1-xCoxO2 thin films with x = 0 is grown at deposition temperature of 450oC with argon and oxygen flow rate of 100 sccm and 60 sccm, respectively. The deposited film has a single orientation of (213)-anatase. The films consist of nanometer size of columnar grains. The growth rate was increased with increasing Co content and therefore the grains become larger. Generally, the crystal structure of films was affected by Co atom concentrations, however at temperature deposition of 450oC and argon flow rate of 70 sccm, the film has the initial structure of (213)-anatase and co-exist with (301)-anatase which is not dominant. The film thickness is about of 0,9 μm for an area of 3x3 cm2.

Abstract

The use of AGP (Antibiotic Growth Promoter) in animal has been banned because of the risk of antibiotic resistance. As an alternative for growth promoter. Andaliman (Zanthoxylum acanthopodium DC.) were used as feed additives. Andaliman is an herbal plant which proven has an immunomodulatory effect. However, herbal plants have low bioavailability in the body, so we need to increase its bioavaibility by reducing particle size using nanoparticle technology. The aim of our study was to determine the effects of three forms of andaliman as extracts, nanoparticles and nanoencapsulation on leukocyte differential, leukocyte count and Heterophil (H) / Lymphocyte.(L) ratio index. In this study we used 24 quails, which is divided into 4 groups, consist of.4 birds each. Group K was control group, birds were given dexamethasone (immunosuppressant), group P1 was given dexamethasone and andaliman extract, group P2 was given dexamethasone and andaliman nanoparticles, whilst group P3 was given dexamethasone and andaliman nanoencapsulation. The results showed that andaliman consumption had a significant effect (P <0.05) on differential leukocytes, number of leukocytes and H / L ratio after induction with immunosuppressants. Total leucocytes count based on the given treatment were K (8080 cell/mm3), P1 (20040 cell/mm3), P2 (20440 cell/mm3), and P3 (22040 cell/mm3). Each mean lymphocytes were K (44,6%), P1 (53,6%), P2(57,4%), and P3 (65,8%). Each mean heterophile were K (50,6%), P1 (41,8%), P2 (37,8%), and P3 (28,6%). Each mean monocytes were K (2,8%), P1 (4,6%), P2(4,8%), and P3 (5,0%). Each mean ratio index Heterophile (H) / Lymphocyte.(L) were K (1,1), P1 (0,7), P2(0,6), and P3 (0,5). It could be concluded that administration of Andaliman extract, Andaliman nanoparticles and Andaliman nanoencapsulation can increase the number of leukocytes, differential leukocytes and decrease the H / L ratio.

Abstract

Humidity Dependence of Optical Properties of Gelatin Films. Humidity dependence of optical properties of gelatin films prepared by casting technique has been investigated. Gelatin films was investigated its optical properties to varied humidity condition. Optical responses investigated are optical transmission and absorption at visible light spectrum measured utilizing a UV-Vis (Ultraviolet &ndash; Visible) spectrophotometer. The results of optical transmittance and absorbance obtained shows an optical response of gelatin films in widely visible light spectrum within range 530 &ndash; 680 nm, with most clearly response in a spectrum band in 580 &ndash; 650 nm. Different humidity treatment cause a significantly change of optical characteristics, that is the transmittance and absorbance change in to humidity. Transmittance of gelatin films increase with increasing humidity in a range 580 &ndash; 650 nm, in contrast with absorbance that is decrease with increasing humidity. Plot of transmission and absorption intensity with varied humidity from 37%RH to 99%RH at 610 nm exhibited a good linearity. Two samples showed same characteristics. Abstract

The acoustical properties of four Indonesian tropical hardwood species were evaluated in this study. The objectives were to determine acoustical parameters e.g. logarithmic decrement, sound absorption, sound velocity as well as density and wood stiffness; and to evaluate the potential of those species for acoustical purposes. Sonokeling (Dalbergia latifolia), Mahoni (Swietenia mahagony), Acacia (Acacia mangium) and Manii wood (Maesopsis eminii) were selected in this research. Three different cutting plane patterns of sawn timber (quarter-sawn, flat-sawn, and plain-sawn) were converted into small specimens. The methods for determining acoustical properties were longitudinal vibration testing and time of flight of ultrasonic wave method. The result showed no significant difference (&alpha;=0.05) of acoustical properties in logarithmic decrement, sound absorption, and ultrasonic velocity means on quarter-sawn, flat-sawn, and plain-sawn for all wood species tested. It was found that Mahoni and Sonokeling had good acoustical properties of logarithmic decrement, ultrasonic wave velocity, and ratio of wood stiffness to wood density; and is preferred for crafting musical instruments. Acacia and Manii wood are recommended for developing acoustic panels in building construction because those species possess higher sound absorption values.Keywords: acoustical properties, logarithimic decrement, sound absorption, ultrasonic wave velocity, tropical wood species

Abstract

Sugar cane industry generates wastes, such as bagasse and filter cake which were still not used optimally. One of the alternative utilizations is through the co-composting process to produce compost. The objectives of the study were to utilize bagasse and filter cake from the sugar industry waste for composting and to determine the effect of aeration and C/N ratio to the process and the quality of compost. Method of composting was carried out by using the aerated static pile with two factors, i.e. aeration and C/N ratio. Aeration was given in the form of active aeration for 1 hour in the first week, of 0.4 and 1.2 l / min.kg, and C/N ratio of 30, 40, and 50 for both aerations. Co-composting process had formed mesophilic temperature with the highest at 38 oC, with a range of pH 6.0-7.5 at day 22 and then constant in the range of 6.8-8.0. C/N ratio final compost produced was 17-25, with the biggest C/N ratio decreases at the initial C/N ratio of 50, whereas the aeration rate of 1.2 l/min.kg gave bigger changes in C / N ratio.Keywords: co-composting, bagasse, blotong, aeration

Abstract

STRUKTUR DAN SIFAT OPTIK FILM ZnO HASIL DEPOSISI DENGAN TEKNIK SPIN-COATING MELALUI PROSES SOL-GEL. Film ZnO telah dibuat pada substrat kaca dengan teknik deposisi spin coating melalui proses sol-gel. Pembuatan film ZnO dari prekursor zinc acetate dengan laju putaran 3.000 rpm selama 60 detik di atas pelat spin coater. Film yang diperoleh dikeringkan pada suhu ruang kemudian dilakukan annealing pada suhu 500 oC selama 3 jam. Hasil XRD menunjukkan bahwa film ZnO yang terbentuk adalah polikristal wurtzite heksagonal dengan nilai parameter kisi masing-masing adalah a = 3,290 Å dan c = 5,2531 Å. Ukuran kristal rata-rata ZnO adalah 29,554 nm. Berdasarkan morfologi permukaan hasil foto SEM menunjukkan film ZnO berbentuk lempengan-lempengan (disks) yang tidak seragamdan tidak beraturan. Karakterisasi spektroskopi UV-Vis menghasilkan karakteristik optik film ZnO, yaitu spektrum transmitansi optik dalam rentang panjang gelombang 370 nm sampai dengan 970 nm. Dari data spektrum UV-Vis tersebut ditentukan lebar celah energi ZnO sebesar 3,2 eV.

Abstract

Solid polymer electrolytes (SPEs) are vital components of fast appearing technology for energy storage-conversion devices. Here, SPEs based on silver (Ag) and zinc oxide (ZnO) nanoparticles are prepared by laser ablation in polylactic acid (PLA) at room temperature. The comparison study of PLA, PLA-ZnO, PLA-ZnO/Ag, and PLA-Ag -based SPEs is conducted in pursuance of the electrical conductivity obtained from electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) characterization. EIS provides comprehensive analyses, including DCand AC conductivities, dielectric constant, and electrical modulus of the samples. Our results show that PLA-ZnO exhibits an appreciable value of DC conductivity, which insignificantly decreases by Ag existence into PLA-ZnO/Ag. This study suggests that PLA-ZnO remains stable by Ag incorporation; hence, PLA-ZnO/Ag has a great potential as SPEs
