Abstract

Academic burnout is a condition that should be avoided to prevent it from impeding students' academic achievement. This study aims to investigate the direct effects of perfectionism and academic stress on academic burnout and the role of academic stress as a mediator between perfectionism and academic burnout. One hundred Kartu Indonesia Pintar scholarship recipients (KIP-K) for the 2021 academic year voluntarily completed a questionnaire. The selection of respondents was based on the indication that KIP-K scholarship recipients were experiencing burnout due to high academic demands. Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modeling was used for the analysis. The study's results showed a significant direct effect of perfectionism and academic stress on academic burnout. The results of indirect effect testing also revealed that academic stress provides a significant mediating effect between these relationships. These results show the importance of counseling services for students, particularly KIP-K scholarship recipients. In addition, it is necessary to evaluate flagship programs given to students to make them more suitable for their psychological abilities and conditions. Keywords: Perfectionism, Academic Stress, Academic Burnout

Abstract

Locus of control (LoC) is a concept in psychology that refers to individuals' perceptions of the extent to which they believe they have control or influence over events occurring in their lives. One influencing factor on LoC is gender. Some previous literature has also demonstrated that LoC has an impact on the use of coping stress strategies. The aim of this study is to compare LoC between male and female students (santri) and to investigate its influence on coping. A cross-sectional online survey design was employed to collect data on LoC and coping. A total of 94 santri from a boarding school in Pekanbaru City participated by completing coping and Rotter's Internal-External Locus of Control (I-E Scale) research scales. The research findings confirm that there is a significant difference in locus of control between male and female santri, as well as a significant influence on the coping strategies they employ. The findings of this research have important implications for prevention and alleviation programs for santri coping with stress. The provision of guidance and counseling services for all santri is crucial. Additionally, the involvement of parents and peers is deemed effective in shaping resilient santri when facing psychological pressure.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the resilience of students who experience body shaming. This study uses a qualitative method with a narrative approach. This study's informants were five students who experienced body shaming. The results showed that students who experienced body shaming generally did not like their body parts, especially those that often-received body-shaming treatment. Informants internalize environmental assessments that cause them to make their bodies objects/self-objectification. Increased self-objectification causes individuals to become more anxious, feel ashamed, feel inferior, insecure, lack self-confidence, and often reflect and cry. This shows they do not have too good resilience. This study indicates the importance of prevention and intervention programs for students who experience body shaming through guidance and counselling services to achieve effective daily lives.
