Abstract

English is an International language, and in Indonesia English as the first foreign language that should be taught from elementary school up to university. Many students get difficulties in learning English especially in meaning vocabulary. In this research the writer tries to investigate “imaginative description game” as a technique in teaching vocabulary.The objective of this research is to know the influence of imaginative description game towards students’ vocabulary mastery at the eighth class. The research was conducted at the second semester of eighth class of SMP Negeri 1 Gunung Sugih Lampung Tengah in 2013/2014. The student of 8C consists of 26 students as experimental class was taugh by imaginative description game and 8B consist of 26 students as a control class was taugh by conventional technique.Before conducting the research, the writer asumed thet the students had the same characteristics, qualities and also status. The result of the research showed that there was positive influence of using imaginative description game towards students’ vocabulary mastery at the second senester of the eighth class at SMP Negeri 1 Gunung Sugih Lampung Tengah in 2013/2014. It is shown by the result of data analysis in which t-test = 5.22 and t-table = 2.00 at significance level 5% and 2.66 at significance level 1%. So  is accepted because t  and  is rejected. It means that avergae score of students’ vocabulary mastery that is taught by using vacation game ( 73.35) is higher than who are taught by using conventional technique ( 52.5) at second semester of eighth class at SMP Negeri 1 Gunung Sugih Lampung Tengah in 2013/2014.

Abstract

The objective of teaching and learning English as a foreign Language is to enable the students to communicate in English both in oral and written. In making sentences or express an idea in oral or writing, the students have to master grammar. Grammar is greatly needed and has important roles in making correct sentences. Without mastering grammar, we can not arrange the senteces in correct one by speaking or writing. In this research the writer did research about using stories towards students‟ grammar mastery.The population of the research was the students at the second semester of tenth class at MA Al-Hikmah Bandar Lampung. The writer took two classes as the sample, they are; X B as class experimental class and X C as control class. In the experimental class, there are 36 students and the second one there are 35 students, so the total of experimental and control class is 71. In taking the sample the writer used random sampling technique. In collecting the data, the writer used objective test that were multiple choice test. The test consisted of 50 items and each item consisted of 5 options.The result of the research showed that the hypothesis test by using = 3.01 and from the distribution table of the distribution table of the significance level 5 % known = (1 − 1/2. = 1.98 and = ( 1 – ) = 1.66. The level of 1 % know = (1 − 1/2. = 2.62 and = ( 1 – ) = 2.36. It means that > . So it can be said that there is the influence of using stories towards students grammar mastery at the second semester of the tenth class at MA Al-Hikmah Bandar Lampung and the average score of the students‟ grammar mastery who were taught by using stories was higher than those who were taught by using grammatical method.

Abstract

The objective of the research is to know whether there is the influence of clue game towards students‟ grammar mastery. The population sample of this research was 78 students; it consisted of 40 students in experimental class and 38 students in control class. The sampling technique is cluster random sampling technique. In collecting the data, the writer used objective test. The test consists of 40 items with four options. The subjective of teaching grammar mastery as enable students to communicate in English in real life situation and understand the meaning of English words. Based on the data analysis of data and hypothesis, the writer found that the average score of experimental class higher than the control class. Therefore, the writer would like to say that cooperative learning that can be used to improve students‟ grammar mastery. It can be concluded that t test > t table. Ttest is = 4.002 and t table is = 1.995 (???? = 0.05) and 2.65 (???? = 0.01). It means that there is positive influence of teaching grammar mastery through cooperative learning towards students‟ grammar mastery. There is significant Influence of “Clue Game” towards students‟ grammar mastery at the second semester of the eighth class of MTs Negeri Kalianda, Lampung Selatan. The average score of students‟ grammar mastery who are taught by using “Clue Game” is higher that students‟ grammar mastery who were not taught by using “Clue Game”. It is proved by the average score of students‟ grammar mastery in experimental class was higher than control class (61.64 > 50.32). Based on the calculation above, the writer concluded that there is a positive Influence of “Clue Game” towards students‟ grammar mastery at the second semester of the eighth class of MTs Negeri Kalianda, Lampung Selatan in 2013/2014.
