Abstract

Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) as business units in the community's economic activities must survive in the global economy. The demand in the dynamics of the global economy is the presence of sustainable products following the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) as a circular economy. It is necessary to strengthen the capacity of MSMEs to produce sustainable products to survive, especially in the global market with a circular economy that is economically and environmentally beneficial. This study and community service was conducted at one of the MSMEs in Agam, West Sumatra, named Kejulasi. Using the literature study method, field observation, and direct dialogue with the business owner, concluded that Kejulasi is still in the process of producing sustainable products. Beyond investment and technology, Kejulasi requires intervention from the government and academia despite the structural barriers arising from international agreements on trade liberalization. In conclusion, a more extensive initiative from the producer and social groups is needed, especially in forming cooperatives, digitalizing cooperatives, and cooperative-based dairy industry ecosystems that enable them to produce sustainable products and survive in the dynamics of the global economy.

Abstract

Ecotourism is a tourism development concept that promotes tourism that is friendly to environmental and cultural sustainability and impacts the local economy. As part of the strategic area for tourism development in Indonesia, Bukit Matoa, Kelurahan Mata Air, West Sumatra has the potential to be developed as an ecotourism area. Based on a field survey, the group discovered that Matoa Hill still required additional development from numerous perspectives, particularly in occupational health and safety (OHS) and environmental health, to become an ecotourism area. The methods used in this project were interviews, observation, documentation, and literature studies. From the results, it was found that in the environmental health aspect, it was found that the availability of clean water and environmental sanitation facilities was inadequate. So, the group prepared a Bukit Matoa ecotourism plan regarding the OHS and environmental health to become a reference for the local government in planning, implementing and developing ecotourism. It hopes the development activities of Bukit Matoa can be more focused and planned.

Abstract

The activity aimed to improve the language skills of SMPN 43 Padang students, both written and verbal, in writing letters. It was considered necessary due to problems arising from the impoliteness of some students of junior high school in both oral and written communication for both formal and non-formal situations. The method used in this community service was participatory, planned by the Study Program of Indonesian Literature lecturer of Universitas Andalas. Furthermore, the team visited the service centre through observation and communication with SMPN 43 Padang teachers to look for problems and solutions related to language politeness in the school. After that, the team and teachers collaborated by compiling an agenda for implementing the engagement service. During the implementation stage, the material was presented, followed by the active participation of students through oral and written communication practices. In the final stage, an evaluation was conducted to formulate the main problems and assess subsequent developments after the community service activities. Based on the review carried out through an analysis of student work results, in the form of a comparison before and after receiving the material and engaging in writing practice, this service increased students' Indonesian politeness.

Abstract

Snack food agro-industry is a potential agribusiness to be developed. Agro-industrial activities produce fresh waste that has yet to be utilized. This waste is in the form of organic solid and liquid waste. Waste left or disposed of will result in pollution. The solution to solve these problems is that waste can be recycled, reduced, and reused, named the 3R concept. This community activity involved advanced service methods, including education and demonstrations to apply the 3R concept for waste—further, the activity team also handovers decomposers and some useful equipment’s for making compost. About ten snack agro-industries attended this service activity. The extension service has provided an understanding to the snack agro-industry regarding implementing 3R and alternatives to reduce the amount of their fresh waste. Demonstrations were related to recycling solid waste into compost and assembling filtering equipment to purify liquid waste. This agro-industry counselling needs to be sustained to consistently apply the 3R concept in the production activities carried out.

Abstract

Reproductive health is a topic that needs to be known in adolescents because there is a critical period that is both normative and maladaptive in adolescent development. Junior high school (SMP) students are categorized as early adolescents (12–15 years old). Their characteristics include unstable behaviour, tending to be emotional and unrealistic, and being a critical period for various information so that they can experience problems such as promiscuity, teenage pregnancy, abortion, sexually transmitted diseases (STDs), and others. Grade 7 students at SMP Ma'arif Borobudur have not yet received information about reproductive health. The method used was providing reproductive health education using multimedia and group discussions. The sub-topics of this health counselling consisted of material on introducing reproductive organs, sexually transmitted diseases, unwanted pregnancy, premarital sex, and healthy reproductive tips. The activity was carried out in four stages: problem assessment, socialization of plans, education, and evaluation. The activity improved knowledge among adolescents about reproductive health, seen in pretest results with a mean of 81.08 and posttest scores of 86.70 in the range of 0-100. It shows that reproductive health education can improve adolescents' knowledge, so this activity needs to be carried out periodically.

Abstract

Community empowerment initiatives are pivotal in bolstering the financial stability of rural communities, particularly those facing challenges in marketing local products such as fresh milk. One of the strategic actions taken for the village populace involves enhancing the marketability of Etawa goat milk—a product with significant demand. The principal objective of this service activity is to inject innovation into the sales techniques of Jegglik Village's community outputs. It was achieved through the creation of distinctive logos or labels and leveraging Google Maps to extend the customer base, thereby amplifying the visibility of Etawa goat milk production far and wide. The approach employed in these community service efforts was Asset-Based Community Development (ABCD), which focuses on fostering social cohesion and enabling community-led environmental and economic development, also known as Community-Driven Development (CDD). The outcomes of this initiative have been markedly positive, yielding beneficial impacts for the community, such as expanded market reach and the ability to forge contractual relationships with milk production enterprises.

Abstract

Stunting is a major nutritional problem in Indonesia because it will have a long-term impact on the quality of human resources. Stunting impacts intelligence levels' susceptibility to disease and reduces productivity, hampering economic growth and increasing poverty and inequality in the future. This community service activity was carried out in the form of active involvement in Integrated Healthcare Center activities in July 2023. The method used monitoring, counselling, and intervention methods for toddlers. Respondents were taken by total sampling: all toddlers in the working area of Posyandu Harapan Ibu 6. Based on the results of monitoring the nutritional status of the 64 toddlers, about 62.5% have had standard nutritional status, and 37.5% have nutritional problems. There are seven toddlers (10.9%) experienced stunting, two toddlers (3.1%) had poor nutritional status, 15 toddlers (23.4%) experienced malnutrition, eight toddlers (12.5%) experienced underweight, and two toddlers (3.1%) experienced the most underweight. All cadres of health care and the local government welcomed this community service activity. It was recommended that cadres consistently innovate in implementing and monitoring toddlers' nutritional status to increase mothers' awareness about stunting impacts.
