Abstract

Coconut is one of agriculture product that is very much used by society in everyday life so that this coconut is considered as multipurpose plant. For the Minangkabau community with typical culinary features of curry and rendang, one of the main ingredients is coconut milk. This kind of cuisine is enjoyed daily by the community both in the padang food stalls and in the household. This creates a considerable amount of coconut waste, one of which is the shell (tampuruang). But the lack of utilization of waste coconut shells into high-value products, resulting in waste accumulate or burned into charcoal. Meanwhile, tampuruang actually can also be utilized economically by processing it into various innovations and creations, both in the form of souvenirs and accessories. Based on these problems we found creative ideas, creating innovations in the processing of tampuruang into a unique watch which we named BOTAC WATCH (Based On Tampuruang Andalas Creation). The creative, innovative and effective concept of BOTAC WACTH is also in line with the creative industry development program launched by the Ministry of Trade of the Republic of Indonesia. Based on the economic analysis conducted, business feasibility has a value of B / C ratio of 2.48. This indicates that the business is feasible to run, because in every Rp.1 the cost incurred will generate benefits worth Rp. 1.48. Thus this product can contribute to the growth and development of creative economy to increase the added value of products as well as enhance the competitiveness of the nation.

Abstract

Arabica coffee has promising market potential in the world market, which reaches 85%. However, national coffee commodity production has been dominated by Robusta coffee which reaches 90% and only 10% of production is Arabica coffee. Given the opportunity of this Arabica coffee market, the West Sumatra government tried to develop this type of coffee. Solok Regency is an area that develops Arabica Coffee rapidly so that it can become the second largest Arabica coffee growing area in the last 3 years. The study aims to: (1) Measure the proportion of smallholder farmers whose income is below the poverty line and the severity of the poverty situation; (2) Analyze the influence of economic and non-economic factors on the poverty rate of coffee farmers. This research will be conducted in Solok Regency which is selected purposively with the consideration that this area has a high poverty rate and has a rapid growth in arabica coffee growing area. The results showed that the poverty rate of Arabica coffee farmers is quite large with a Head-count index of 0.50 meaning that as many as 50% of farmers have incomes that are below the poverty line. Arabica coffee farmers who are members of cooperatives have a higher poverty rate compared to non-cooperative farmers both from the Headcount Index and from the Poverty Gap Index and Poverty Severity Index. This is because cooperative farmers have no other source of income and are very dependent on coffee farming on narrow land. Factors that affect the poverty rate of Arabica coffee farmers are assets and being members of cooperatives. The existence of cooperatives will be able to increase opportunities for farmers to gain access to economic facilities, one of which is access to financing sources, so that it will be able to encourage farmers to develop their businesses and open new businesses to increase their income. To increase the income of Arabica coffee farmers, there needs to be policies to encourage farmers to open other businesses so as to increase farmers' incomes. Diversification of business becomes very important because it will be able to help farmers to get out of poverty.

Abstract

Abstract

The largest area of local coffee plantation in West Sumatera Province is in the District of Solok, that covers the area around 9,300 Ha, with the annual production of 8,500 Ton. There are two varieties of coffee in this District, arabica and robusta. The area of robusta coffee is around 7,700 Ha that are much larger than arabica of 1,600 Ha. Although the price of arabica coffee is much higher than robusta, farmers prefer to cultivate robusta coffee mainly due to its resistance to plant diseases, low maintenance cost and higher demand compare to arabica coffee. Since the Robusta coffee is the second largest of local plantation after casiavera in Solok. There is a need for the district government to get a suitable development not only for the benefit of local farmers but also for regional development of Solok district itself. This study applied descriptif qualitative method to analyze the interrelationship of agribusiness sub-systems and its potential aspect. The results shows that the interrelationship of four subsystems of the agribusiness of Robusta coffee agribusiness were not strong enough to face the influences from the external factors of the systems. This, then guided the recommendation to improve the competitiveness of the Robusta coffee, mainly by increasing the quality and appearance of its market form and its dairy products.
