Abstract

This study aimed to: (1) identify some learning obstacles experienced by students related to the topic of rectangular areas, (2) find out the didactical design of mathematical reasoning to develop a didactical situation, (3) describe the didactical situation of mathematical reasoning in learning process, and (4) increase mathematical reasoning ability through the learning of didactical design. The method employed in this study was a qualitative method with Didactical Design Research (DDR) approaches consisting of three formal stages. The results showed that (1) there were four types of learning obstacles experienced by students about the concept of quadrilateral area, (2) the didactical design that has been prepared facilitated the students construct the area of quadrilateral through the triangle areas approach, (3) the didactical situation developed consisted of 12 didactical situations along with predictions of student’s responses and anticipation, (4) students’ learning obstacle could be minimized and students’ mathematical reasoning abilities had been increased. Thus, it could be concluded that the didactical design of mathematical reasoning could be used as a guideline for educators to design a didactical situation in mathematics learning activities.

Abstract

Environmental conditions around the individual is very influential in this type of social learning patterns. The aims of this study were to identify the influence of self and peer assessment on science learning. This research used post test only control design. The result of the analysis of data Showed that; (1) 50% of the 30 students in the experimental class were able to do a self-assessment activities well; 56.67% of the 30 students in the experimental class were able to do peer assessment activities well; and 26.67% of the 30 students in the control class were able to do self-assessment activities well. (2) 100% of the 30 students in the experimental class were able to do a self-assessment of the science learning outcomes well; 93.3% of the 30 students in the experimental class were able to do peer assessment of the science learning outcomes well; and 73.3% of the 30 students in the control were able to obtain a good score of science learning outcomes according to the teacher assessment. The result results show that the application of self and peer assessment has an effect on students' learning activity and outcomes. The conclusion is that the application of self and peer assessment has an effect learning of science. It is necessary to exercise this assessment periodically during the learning activity. The research should combine students' assessment with that of reviews their teacher by 50% to obtain accurate learning outcomes.

Abstract

This study aimed to identify the effect of Predict-Observe-Explain (POE) learning strategy with Group Investigation (GI) model on students’ learning achievement and critical thinking skills. The method used was Quasi Experimental Design type Control Group Pre-test – Post-test. Instrument for assessing learning achievement was test, while critical thinking skills were measured with observation sheets. Content and construct validity were used to make the instruments valid and reliable. Data analysis techniques used were independent t-test, one tail (right) test, N-gain test, analysis of observation sheet with checklist formula, and product moment correlation test. The study showed that the implementation of POE learning strategy with GI model had significantly effected students’ learning achievement and critical thinking skills. Data analysis showed tvalue was 73.42 which meant the experiment class had higher score than control class. N-gain mean score for experiment class was 0.18, meanwhile control class was 0.9. There were nine students’ critical thinking skill profiles which were showed significantly from the observation sheets. Critical thinking skills were also correlated significantly to students’ learning achievement. The implementation of POE strategy with GI model in providing benefits to train students to find their new knowledge, to improve their learning achievement and critical thinking skill, as well as to improve the quality of learning was discussed.

Abstract

The research objective is to develop thematic teaching materials to improve scientific literacy skills and the thinking process of higher order thinking skills. This research uses the R & D (Research and Development) method with the design of Borg & Gall. The products resulted in this research is thematic teaching material oriented to scientific literacy and higher order thinking skills. Data analysis techniques used in this research include analysis of quantitative descriptive data related to validity and legibility of teaching materials. To determine the effectiveness of teaching material used normalized gain test. The results of this study indicate that the instructional material developed is valid and contains all the components of scientific literacy which include science as the body of knowledge, science as a way of investigating, science as a way of thinking, and the interaction between technology science and society in a balanced curriculum-oriented 2013. Learning by using the developed teaching material increase the students’ scientific literacy, namely the students’ ability to apply science to solve a problem. After learning with developed teaching material, the higher order thinking process is improved. Students’ thinking skills enable them to work on problems with operational analysis, evaluation, and creation work. Based on data analysis it can be concluded that the development thematic teaching material oriented to scientific literacy and higher order thinking skills is effective in improving scientific literacy and the thinking process of students of higher order thinking skills.

Abstract

The learning model is one of the factors that influence student learning outcomes. The purpose of this study was to determine the effectiveness of learning outcomes based on students' motivation in thematic learning with The Discovery Learning Model assisted by audio-visual media with the theme of Our Friends Environment in elementary schools. This type of research is quantitative with quasi-experimental research (quasi-experiment). This study uses a pre-test – post-test nonequivalent control group design with two class research objects consisting of a control class (Public Elementary School Kalipancur 2, Semarang) and an experimental class (Public Elementary School Purwoyoso 4, Semarang). The sample consisted of 72 students. This data collection technique uses N-Gain analysis. The results of this study are an increase in learning outcomes based on motivation significantly. Obtained an average increase in learning outcomes of 87.4% in the very good category. The average skill of 75.8% is in the very good category. An average motivation of 86% is in the very good category. The average N-Gain test of 0.602 is in the medium category. The conclusion of this research is an increase in student learning outcomes after participating in thematic learning with The Discovery Learning Model assisted by audio-visual media. Motivation accompanies an increase in student learning outcomes.

Abstract

This study has the purpose of analyzing the effectiveness of the Problem Based Learning (PBL) model with the Open-Ended approach on students' problem-solving abilities. This type of study was an experimental research with a non-equivalent pre-test – post-test control group design. The population of the study was grade IV students of  Elementary School in Cluster of Jenderal Sudirman, Kebonagung District, Demak Regency in 2018/2019. Samples were taken by using a random sampling technique. Problem-solving ability as a dependent variable. And the Open-Ended approach as an independent variable. The method was used as an essay test item. The data analysis techniques were using Validity, Reliability, Difficulty test, Normality test, Homogeneity test, t-test, and N-gain test. Problem-solving ability can be improved by applying the PBL model with the open-ended approach. This can be shown based on the results of N-gain test is the average value of an experimental group is higher than the control group (0.7029 > 0.5118). The average N-Gain problem-solving ability of students taught using the PBL model with Open-Ended approach is higher than average N-Gain problem-solving ability of students taught using the PBL model.

Abstract

Implementation of Conservation and Environmental Education (PKLH) courses is expected to foster mental attitudes and conservation behaviors of Univeritas Negeri Semarang (UNNES) students. This is in line with the application of UNNES as a conservation university that aims to support the protection, preservation and utilization of the environment as stated in the seven pillars of conservation. Although this course has been implemented since 2010, this does not have an effect on student attitudes, as does student participation in disposing of waste according to rules that are still limited. The survey was conducted on 385 respondents to analyze the attitudes and conservation behaviors of students who have taken PKLH courses, as well as analyze the relationship between attitudes and student conservation behaviors. Data was taken using a psychological scale of attitudes and behaviors. Attitudes are measured based on cognitive, affective and conative aspects, while behavior is measured based on the seven pillars of UNNES conservation. Results showed that the conservation attitude of students who had taken PKLH courses was included in the high category, while the conservation behavior of students showed a moderate category. Correlation test shows that there is a positive and significant relationship between attitude and behavior.
