The research aims at developing a learning model of adaptive physical activities(APA) for improving basic movements and health of mentally disabled students ina disabled elementary school at Bantul regency; therefore it is a research and development. There are 5 steps used by the researcher : a preliminary study, planning, expert validation, empirical validation and effectiveness testing. The small scale implementationtesting was done to 13 disabled students whereas the large scale, 42students of 3 graders of disabled elementary school. The effectiveness testing usesan experimental research within one pre and post test group. The group consists of27students of Plered Disabled Elementary School. The research observation instrumentuses Likert scale and ratting-scale. The proposed learning models are: KidKomodo football, waves in the sea, knowing shapes, frog circus and air bubble. These models prove effective for mentally students of disabled elementary school. Both the small scale implementation testing and the large scale one result in theimprovement of basic physical movements of the students. The secondary result isthat teachers of physical education and health find the models easy to do and thestudents get fun being taught using them.

This study is concerned with developing scaffolding model to elicit bilingual kindergarten childrenâs English speech production. It is aimed at describing what the teachers need in eliciting their studentsâ speech production; how a scaffolding model should be developed to elicit the childrenâs speech production; and how effective is the scaffolding model in eliciting the childrenâs speech production. The participants of the study are teachers and students of kindergarten at Mondial SchoolSemarang. Preliminary research was conducted to describe what the teachers need to elicit their studentsâ speech production. Referring to the need analysis, a scaffolding model was developed to elicit the childrenâs speech production. To explain the effectiveness of the model a try out was carried out on the model developed. Based on the result of the try out, a final model was developed. The findings of the preliminary research suggest that Mondial School kindergarten teachers need a scaffolding model to elicit their studentsâ speech production. Referring to the findings a scaffolding model based on speech functions was developed. To explain the effectiveness of the model the developed initial model was tried out. Based on the result of the try out the final scaffolding model was developed. This study concludes that kindergarten teachers of Mondial School need a scaffolding model to elicit their childrenâs English speech production. Based on the need analysis, a Socio-cultural Scaffolding Model was developed. Referring to the result of the try out steps it is reasonable to argue that this product of Scaffolding Model is effective in eliciting English speech production of kindergarten students of Mondial School.

This study was to design a cross-cultural comparison based syllabus for cross-cultural understanding class in English Department of Pancasakti University. This study used a Research and Development (R&D) model suggested by Borg and Gall (1983) encompassing four phases, exploration, development, field-testing, and dissemination. This study involved 47 third semester students who had attended CCU class in need analysis and 20 students of first semester for the trial. Data was collected by using questionnaire, document analysis, and classroom observation. English Education experts validated the syllabus prototype before trying it out to find out the feasibility and practicality of cross-cultural comparison based syllabus by using a pre-experimental design with one-group Pretest-Posttest design. Pearson Product moment SPSS 22 was used to find out the correlation between pretest and posttest. The try out data was supported by classroom observation rubric and studentsâ feedback. The finding showed that the new developed syllabus was fit to use for cross-cultural understanding class in English Department of Pancasakti University proven by positive correlation and between pretest and posttest; supported by studentsâ good behavior and satisfaction with the new developed syllabus in CCU class.

This study aims at developing multiple-intelligences (MI)-based materials for teaching English in elementary school. It applies the research and development method. In the exploration stage, a needs analysis and a document analysis were carried out. Thirty public elementary school teachers in Semarang filled out a questionnaire. The document analysis was meant to find out to what extent the English learning materials used by most of the teachers addressed the MI theory. In the development stage, the prototype of the model was developed, evaluated by experts and tried-out in one school. In the last stage, a pre-experimental study was carried out in three schools. The results indicated that learning materials which have variations of tasks were needed. The analysis of the learning materials showed that some intelligence types were very rarely represented. As for the prototype of the model, some revisions were required. The result of the t-test indicated that the model was effective for improving the studentsâ English mastery. This study suggests that the model of MI-based materials developed is appropriate for teaching English to elementary school students.

The purposes of the study on which this article is based are: to explain the condition pedagogical competence of primary school teachers in west Semarang subdistrict; to formulate the guidance model for evaluating the teacher pedagogical competence; and find out the effectiveness of the concerned model’s implementation. The method used to develop the modified model of the ones suggested by Borg and Gall (1983) which consists of three main steps: a preliminary study, the process of its development and its finalization. The research results show that the pedagogical competence model of primary school teachers in west semarang subdistrict is still considerable. The implementation of guidance model is done through workshop, colloquium, and direct implementation on the site. The conclusion of this research is that the model can be as an alternative guidance for finding out the teachers’ pedagogical competence. The advantages of the developed model is the fulfillment of the needs to have the guidance to diagnose the concerned teachers’ pedagogical competence dimensions and motivation is achieved. The product implementation can be also used to obtain the monitoring and evaluation information of the pedagogical competence of the teachers. It can furthermore be used as consideration to design the material for the trainers of a teacher training center since it can provide the real needs of pedagogical competence of the teachers going to be trained

An appraisal is the developmental theory of Halliday's interpersonal meaning proposed by Martin & White (2005). There are three systems in Appraisal namely attitude, engagement, and graduation. This study investigated the comparison of attitude manifested in online newspaper articles written by female and male authors. It was intended to reveal the realization, similarities, and differences in the attitude system in the articles. It employed a descriptive qualitative method in the form of discourse analysis to examine sixteen online newspaper articles within the theoretical framework of Appraisal (Martin & White, 2005). Besides, the gender and psychological theories of Shields (2000) and Guimond (2008) were employed. The findings of this study found out that both authors displayed three subsystems of attitude. Then, appreciation items were dominantly perceived. On the other side, affect became a significant gap of differences between female and male authors. This study is very beneficial for English language learners to pay more attention to the use of appraisal in their writings. They can convey their voices and emotions effectively by using Appraisal.

The monotonous teaching techniques lead to boredom and lack of results in teaching basic grammar. Meanwhile, technology has rapidly developed. Furthermore, different personalities, extrovert and introvert, might affect the specific result in learning a language. Therefore, this study aimed to report the effectiveness of Grammarly and Web-based language learning (WBLL) techniques in teaching basic grammar to extrovert and introvert students. It employed quantitative research with a factorial design study. The object was the first grade of Nursing and Midwifery students of Ministry of Health Polytechnic Semarang in the Academic Year of 2020/2021. It involved two experimental groups. The students in Class A were treated using Grammarly technique, and students in Class B were treated using WBLL technique. The data collection used an EPI questionnaire and pre-test and post-test. At the same time, the data analysis employed ANOVA. The result showed that Grammarly technique was more effective in teaching basic grammar to extrovert students, and WBLL technique more effective in teaching basic grammar to introvert students. The result also showed a significant value of 0.804 > 0.05. It proved that there was no significant interaction of Grammarly, Web-based language learning, and the students’ personalities in teaching basic grammar.
