Abstract

This study investigated the Mind Mapping Technique in relation to students’ motivation in writing descriptive texts. The problem statements are formulated as follows: (1) what are the problems faced by the students in the process of writing descriptive texts? (2) How is the improvement of the students’ motivation in writing descriptive texts through the Mind Mapping Technique? (3) To what extent does the teaching learning process by using the Mind Mapping Technique contribute to the improvement of students’ skill in writing descriptive texts? The objectives of this study are: (1) To find out the problems faced by the students in the process of writing descriptive texts, (2) To investigate the improvement of the students’ motivation in writing descriptive texts through the Mind Mapping Technique in each cycle, (3) To describe the improvement of students’ skill in writing descriptive texts after participating in the teaching learning process by using the Mind Mapping Technique. The design of this research was Classroom Action Research. This research ran the four steps: Planning the action, implementing, observing, and reflecting the action. The results of the study concluded that, the implementation of the Mind Mapping Technique in the teaching of writing descriptive text could develop the ability and improve the motivation.

Abstract

ABSTRACTThe research aims to investigate students’ reading comprehension at the eleventh grade of Senior High School before and after using the Cooperative Integrated Reading and Composition (CIRC) technique, and also to investigate the effectiveness of CIRC technique to improve students’ reading comprehension as well. CIRC technique was chosen as the x variable in the research. The research applied pre-experimental, one group pre-test – post-test design. The population of the research was eleventh grade that consisted of five classes and class XI IPS 3 was chosen as the sample. There were 26 students in this class. The instruments used to collect the data were tests which consist of pre-test and post-test. Pre-test was conducted to investigate students’ reading comprehension before treatments. The result indicated students’ reading comprehension was fair. Meanwhile, post-test was conducted to examine students’ reading comprehension after treatments. Furthermore, it can be concluded that there is significant effect of using CIRC technique. In line with that, it can be concluded that Cooperative Integrated Reading and Composition (CIRC) technique is effective to improve students’ reading comprehension. Keywords: Cooperative Integrated Reading and Composition (CIRC) technique, reading, comprehension

Abstract

Language is a communication tool to convey ideas or opinions and feelings to others. Through language, people can be interconnected, share, learn from each other, and improve their intellectual abilities. The ability to communicate in English is very crucial in the world of work. Abstract

The aims of this research are to reveal teaching practices of novice English teachers and the challenges faced by novice English teachers. This is a narrative qualitative. The researcher employs observation and interview as the research instrument. The result of this research reveals the way of teaching practices of novice English teachers still not maximal, they faced several challenges related with teaching practices and with the school environment in terms of in the beginning the novice English teachers feel lack of ability, difficult in arrange and implementing the lesson plan, motivating the students, the alteration of emotion, interactions with colleagues, the parents of the students and with the students, time management is the main challenges in the boarding school, the teachers cannot implement time management with maximal.

Abstract

Introducing English earlier starts from elementary school is a bright idea, because Learning at young age will be more quickly and effectively than at adult because the child brain is particularly adaptable to language acquisition up to puberty. The writer has objectives concerning the teaching learning process, among other things are: the instructional material, the instructional media, method and technique used, and the students? achievement. This research is qualitative research design, and the subjects of the research are the headmaster, the English teacher, and students. The result of the research has been shown in the research finding and has been discussed that (1) the instructional materials (2) the instructional media is important instrument to be used and interesting for students in teaching learning process; (3) the method used are direct method, total physical respond and grammar translation method, while the technique are songs, and dialogue; (4) the students? achievement score is taken from the first semester examination. Finally, the conclusion of this research is that in holding the English as local content, while the material given, teaching media, method and technique used have been suitable with the theory although those should be improved again.

Abstract

This study aimed to develop English supplementary materials to meet the needs of nursing students on English learning through Instructional Conversation (IC) method. This research was categorized into research and development. The materials were validated by two experts to come to the final product. This research conducted at the Nursing Study Program involving students of the second semester. The data collected from classroom and checklist observation, questionnaire, an interview.  Considering the data collected, the English textbooks available and used in the Nursing Study Program contains English language learning materials that are still common and less specific for students used in the nursing study program. Therefore, English supplementary materials through Instructional Conversation (IC) method should be developed by considering the needs of lecturers and students. English supplementary materials through the Instructional Conversation method were developed by considering several aspects.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan mendeskripsikan penyajian dan pengaruh latar terhadap sikap dan prilaku tokoh-tokoh cerita yang terdapat dalam novel Pergolakan karya Wildan Yatim. Penelitian kualitatif merupakan jenis penelitian yang digunakan, dengan menggunakan metode deskriptif kualitatif. Data penelitian yaitu data tertulis berupa teks cerita yang berhubungan dengan penyajian dan pengaruh latar terhadap sikap dan prilaku tokoh-tokoh cerita yang terdapat dalam novel Pergolakan karya Wildan Yatim. Data dalam penelitian ini dikumpulkan dengan menggunakan dua cara yakni baca dan catat. Data dalam penelitian ini dianalisis dengan menggunakan pendekatan Struktural.Temuan dalam penelitian ini menujukkan bahwa perpaduan latar fisik yaitu Kampung Gunung Beringin dan Kampung Tinjau Laut dan latar sosial yaitu situasi pergolakan PRRI dan Komunis sangat mempengaruhi sikap dan prilaku tokoh-tokoh dalam cerita.

Abstract

This study aims to increase presentation skills in English and one of the communication tools to convey ideas and feelings to others. Through language, people can be interconnected, learn from each other, and improve their intellectual abilities. One of the abilities demanded by alumni of English Education Study Programs is the ability to communicate in English presentation. Based on the experience of researchers while teaching, there are still students who are unable to present in English Presentation. The research activity is done by teaching process on the classroom and it is happened on second semester students of the English Education Study Program. The program is done by teaching and practicing them the speech, making presentation, speech delivery and being moderator. Abstract

This study is an attempt to examine about the extrovert and the introvert students’ speaking skill at the eleventh grade of Senior High School. The samples of this research were 44 students. The design in this research was comparative analysis design. The data were obtained through personality test whether the students are the extrovert or introvert after that the researcher used simulation and role-play technique for testing the students speaking skill. The data were analyzed by using t-test formula to investigate whether there are significant difference result between the extrovert and the introvert students in their speaking skill. The result of the calculation shows that there is no different result between the extrovert and the introvert students in their speaking skill. Groups, the extrovert and the introvert students can perform better English speaking skill through their own way of learning. Hopefully this research can be useful for achieving more effective English teaching and learning process.
