Abstract

The lack of Indonesian students achievement in the international assessment is due to several factors. Students are not familiar with the problems requiring reasoning, in particular the proportional reasoning. This research aims to identify the distribution and the Level of Cognitive Demands (LCD) of the proportional reasoning problems found in the Year 7 and Year 8 mathematics textbooks based on the 2013 curriculum (revised edition 2014). The data collection was conducted by identifying the proportional reasoning problems found in the whole chapters of the textbooks which are then analysed and classified using the Smiths and Stein’s criteria of LCD (1998). The results reveal that the proportional reasoning problems were only found in the three of 17 chapters namely ratio and proportion, rectangle and triangle, and Pythagorean Theorem, which represent different LCD including Lower-LCD (Low-M and Low-P) and Higher-LCD (High-P). Out of 69 proportional reasoning problem found in the textbooks, the percentage of higher-LCD problems (n=29 ; 42.03%) is less than lower-LCD (n=40;57.97%). In addition, the higher-LCD problems found were only the high-P type. None was found to meet the requirement of High-DM demanding students to conduct ‘doing mathematics’, complex approach and self-monitoring or self regulation of students’ cognitive process. It is recommended that the proportional reasoning problems, including some High-DM problems, should be provided in each topic in Indonesian mathematics textbooks.DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.22342/jme.9.1.4145.55-68

Abstract

Student mastery of the basic arithmetic operations of mathematics is still low, especially for students who received school education background before heterogens. This research was conducted to determine the type of error that made the students in doing mathematics basic arithmetic operations, increase students' ability to perform basic arithmetic operations through the implementation of the mathematics matriculation, and suitability scores obtained by students with a score of predetermined targets. This research is a descriptive qualitative research subjects were 27 students of class X SMK 2 Langsa. Data were analyzed using the concept of Miles and Huberman: includes the step of data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion. The results showed that the errors made by the students in solving basic math arithmetic operations are procedural and conceptual errors. Procedural errors do end results is a mistake, an error in the operations of addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division of integers. Conceptual error committed is a mistake to equate the denominator in the operation of addition and subtraction of fractions, simplifying error in root form, and errors in rationalizing the denominator.

Abstract

In mathematics a lot of complaints from teachers because of lack of achievement and motivation of one of the earliest achievements to improve learning outcomes and student motivation is a cooperative learning model type group investigation. This study aims to determine the increase in student achievement and learning motivation among students who learn through cooperative learning model type Group Investigation with students who learn through conventional learning models. This study is a quasi-experiment study research design of pre-test post-test control group design. The population is all students of class XI SMA Negeri 8 Banda Aceh by taking samples of two classes (the experimental class and control class) via random sampling of eight parallel classes available. The data collection was done using two kinds of instruments that test and non test. Tests include pretest and posttest, while non-test includes a questionnaire to students' motivation. To see the difference in achievement and increase students' motivation between experimental class and control class used the t-test. Based on the survey results revealed that 1) the increase in student achievement which acquire learning through cooperative learning model type Group Investigation better than students who received conventional learning, and 2) increase students' motivation obtain cooperative learning type Group Investigation better than in students who obtain conventional learning. The use of cooperative learning model type Group Investigation in learning proven to improve student achievement and motivation to learn, so it is suggested that other researchers can apply in mathematics learning another topic.

Abstract

Abstrak: Interaksi merupakan salah satu  karakteristik dari Pembelajaran Matematika Realistik (PMR). Guna melihat sejauh mana interaksi belajar siswa yang terjadi dengan PMR maka dilaksanakan penelitian pada materi keliling dan luas persegipanjang. Subjek pada penelitian ini adalah siswa kelas IV MIN Rukoh Banda Aceh. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pola umum interaksi siswa yang terjadi dalam pembelajaran matematika realistik, untuk mengetahui aktivitas guru memfasilitasi interaksi siswa dalam pembelajaran matematika realistik, ketuntasan belajar siswa secara klasikal pada materi keliling dan luas persegipanjang, dan  respon siswa terhadap pembelajaran matematika realistik. Data penelitian diperoleh dari pengamatan terhadap kemampuan guru dalam memfasilitasi interaksi siswa, interaksi siswa,  tes hasil belajar, dan angket respon siswa. Data yang diperoleh dianalisis secara deskriptif. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa: (1) melalui PMR interaksi yang terjadi baik antara siswa dengan siswa maupun antara siswa dengan guru menjadi meningkat dan juga diperoleh variasi pola umum interaksi yaitu: (a) SMS (Siswa – Materi – Siswa), (b) SSO (Siswa – Siswa  tanpa membicarakan materi), (c) SMG (Siswa – Materi – Guru), (d) Pola melingkar; (2) kemampuan guru dalam memfasilitasi interaksi siswa adalah sangat baik; (3) pembelajaran matematika realistik pada materi keliling dan luas persegipanjang tuntas secara klasikal; dan (4) respon siswa terhadap pembelajaran realistik adalah positif.

Abstract

The engagement of students' initiative in designing the floor plan has received less attention from the teacher. Student engagement can be seen from the student's initiative in designing a floor plan during learning. One strategy that can be used is Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM). STEM integrates science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. This study aimed to describe the students' initiative in designing floor plans through STEM at one of the junior high schools in Banda Aceh, Indonesia. This is descriptive qualitative research. The subjects of this study were seven Year 7 students. Data collection was carried out using observation sheets. Student initiatives in this study were measured by eight indicators: trying to do their job perfectly and seriously, not doing it carelessly, actively participating in discussions, doing more than assigned work, not being communicative, asking questions to get more information, raising hands before responding to questions or expressing opinions, referring to his/her dictionary, encyclopedia, or other references for information, and meeting teachers to discuss learning material before or after school. The results showed that the students' initiative increased in designing floor plans through STEM. This can be seen from students who meet the eight indicators of the initiative. Thus, it can be concluded that all indicators in this study were fulfilled so that students can complete project assignments well.

Abstract

Program International for Student Assessment (PISA) merupakan program penilaian tingkat Internasional yang diselengarakan setiap tiga tahun sekali yang bertujuan untuk meneliti kemampuan siswa usia 15 tahun dalam literasi membaca, matematika, dan sains. Hasil PISA tahun 2009 dan tahun 2013 menunjukkan bahwa prestasi siswa Indonesia pada literasi matematika masih berada pada level 2. Rendahnya prestasi tersebut tidak terlepas dari proses belajar di sekolah, salah satunya siswa belum dibiasakan menyelesaikan soal-soal yang menuntut kemampuan siswa untuk menganalisis, bernalar, beragumentasi, merepresentasikan permasalahan dalam berbagai situasi, dan memecahkan masalah yang berhubungan dengan masalah kehidupan sehari-hari. Untuk itu perlu dikembangkan soal matematika setara PISA yang sesuai dengan konteks siswa Indonesia yang dapat digunakan guru sehingga literasi matematika siswa dapat meningkat. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah (1) untuk menghasilkan soal matematika setara PISA pada konten shape and space dan change and relationships untuk siswa SMP yang valid dan praktis dan (2) untuk mengetahui level siswa dalam menyelesaikan soal matematika setara PISA pada konten shape and space dan change and relationships. Penelitian ini menggunakan alur pengembangan instrumen oleh Tessmer. Subjek penelitian adalah 36 siswa kelas IX-5 MTsN Model Banda Aceh. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa (1) diperoleh perangkat soal matematika setara PISA pada konten shape and space dan change and relationship sebanyak 12 butir yang valid dan praktis dan (2) rata-rata pencapaian level siswa dalam menyelesaikan soal matematika setara PISA masih berada pada level 2.Kata kunci: penelitian pengembangan, soal PISA

Abstract

Pemecahan masalah matematis yang berkaitan dengan materi pecahan adalah salah satu materi matematika yang sulit bagi siswa SD/MI. Penelitian ini bertujuan mengkaji pengaruh penggunaan media visual terhadap kemampuan pemecahan masalah matematis. Eksperimen dengan disain penelitian two groups pre-test post-test control group design ini menetapkan populasi seluruh siswa kelas V MIN Tungkop Aceh Besar dengan lima kelas paralel. Sampel diambil secara purposif dua kelas dari tiga kelas unggul yang ada di MIN tersebut, masing-masing satu kelas dijadikan sebagai kelas yang mendapat perlakuan (treatment) dengan jumlah siswa 35 orang dan satu kelas lagi sebagai kelas kontrol dengan jumlah siswa 34 orang. Di kelas perlakuan (treatment) pembelajaran pecahan dilaksanakan dengan menggunakan media visual dan di kelas kontrol pembelajaran pecahan dilaksanakan dengan cara konvensional. Data dikumpulkan dengan menggunakaninstrumen kemampuan pemecahan masalah matematis untuk siswa (tes esei).  Untuk pengujian hipotesis, data pretes dan postes kemampuan pemecahan masalah matematis, dan data peningkatan kemampuan pemecahan masalah matematis terlebih dahulu diperiksa persyaratan analisisnya berupa homogenitas dan normalitas. Pengujian hipotesis menggunakan uji-t pada taraf signifikansi 5%. Pengolahan data dengan menggunakan SPSS 17.0 for Windows telah diperoleh (1) Kemampuan pemecahan masalah matematis siswa yang mendapat pembelajaran dengan media visual lebih baik daripada kemampuan pemecahan masalah matematis siswa yang mendapat pembelajaran secara konvensional, dan (2) Peningkatan kemampuan pemecahan masalah matematis siswa yang mendapat pembelajaran dengan menggunakan media visual lebih baik daripada peningkatan kemampuan pemecahan masalah matematis siswa yang mendapat pembelajaran secara konvensional. Berdasarkan temuan ini, maka direkomendasikan kepada guru SD/MI bahwa ketika mengajar matematika khususnya topik pecahan, hendaknya menggunakan media visual sehingga siswa lebih mudah memahami konsep maupun pemecahan masalah matematis. Kata kunci: Pembelajaran dengan menggunakan media visual, pecahan,   pemecahan masalah matematis.

Abstract

Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui dampak implementasi Hypothetical Learning Trajectory (HLT) dalam mengajarkan nilai  melalui pendekatan matematika realistik. Penelitian ini mendeskripsikan implementasi Hypothetical Learning Trajectory (HLT) melalui penelitian Design Research yang terdiri atas tiga tahap yaitu (i) preparing for the experiment, (ii) the teaching experiment, dan (iii) the retrospective analysis. Penelitian ini melibatkan satu orang guru dan 28 siswa kelas V MIN Rukoh, Banda Aceh. Data dikumpulkan melalui lembar observasi, video pembelajaran, dan catatan lapangan. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa HLT yang dikembangkan dapat membantu siswa melukis titik pusat dan diameter benda berbentuk lingkaran, menemukan nilai yang paling akurat hasil pembagian keliling dengan diameter lingkaran yaitu  Kendala  dalam penelitian ini adalah siswa kesulitan melakukan operasi pembagian bilangan desimal.The purpose of this study was to determine the impact of the implementation Hypothetical Learning Trajectory (HLT) in teaching the value of π through realistic mathematics approach. This study describes the implementation Hypothetical Learning Trajectory (HLT) through research Design Research, which consists of three stages: (i) preparing for the experiment, (ii) the teaching experiment, and (iii) the retrospective analysis. The results showed that the HLT developed to help students paint the center and diameter of a circle-shaped object, find the most accurate value of the division of the circumference to the diameter of the circle is π = 3.14. Constraints in this study were students’ difficulty performing division operation decimals.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the improvement of mathematical connection capability and self efficacy of students who have learned by Cooperative Learning Model Type Rotating Trio Exchange (RTE) compared to students who received conventional mathematics learning. Collection technique is done by doing test result of student learning and self-efficacy questionnaire of student. Data analysis of mathematical connection capability and student self-efficacy data were performed by using Independent-Sample t Test. The result of hypothesis testing shows that: (1) Improvement of mathematical connection ability of students who gain learning with RTE learning model better than mathematical connection ability of students who gain conventional learning; (2) Increased ability of self-efficacy of students who gain learning with RTE learning model better than the ability of self-efficacy of students who obtain conventional learning. Based on self-efficacy questionnaire indicated that students showed positive attitude toward mathematics learning using RTE Type Co-operative Model
