Abstract

The critical thinking skills require to be possessed by students to decide to gain new knowledge. The perception differences by each student influence students' thinking skills have, so to practice these skills is a needed learning approach to the student truly. One of them is problem-based learning. The purpose of this study is to train students' critical skills who have the cognitive method of Field Independent (FI) and Field Dependent (FD). This type of research is experimental research. The sampling technique in this study uses a cluster random sampling technique, which is taking random group samples. The results of this study are (1) the average Islamic Nurul Hadi Vocational School students belong to the dependent field cognitive style (FD); (2) the majority of students' critical thinking skills are in the high category, in 26 students consisting of 19 FI students and 7 FD students; (3) FI students are better at critical thinking compared to FD students. FD students need guidance in solving problems. PBL learning model is very appropriate to be used to train students' critical thinking skills with different cognitive styles.

Abstract

ICT has transformed the conventional learning system into a modern learning system, demanding innovation in the delivery of learning. So that this study has the aim of developing, knowing the feasibility of online web-based learning and assessment tool in physics, as well as knowing students' learning results in the ICT media. This study research & development (R&D) method using Borg & Gall model. Which refers to the potential problem through data collection, product design, design validation, revision of product design, product testing, revision of usage. The feasibility testing of media and material was carried out by two material expert validators and two media expert validators with a small group trial conducted on students consisting of 13 respondents and large group trial conducted on students consisting of 40 respondents. We use online media for web-based learning and assessment tool in vocational high school for Physics subject, and the results of the study show that this application generates individual assignments, marks student responses, supplies students with the rapid feedback, and records student activities. The student activity log provides insight into student learning habits. Its a reference for assessment. This application meets the requirements as a learning media. The results of the validation by an expert material on online web-based learning and assessment tool gets a percentage of an average score of 82%, and the material gets a percentage of 81.33% criteria very feasible.

Abstract

The 4C-oriented 21st century competency education consists of critical thinking and problem solving, creativity, communication skills and Ability to Work Collaboratively. Guided inquiry learning strategy combined with scratch technology is needed to train students' critical thinking skills. The study aims to determine the improvement of students' critical thinking skills after being given Guided Inquiry assisted by Scratch media on the Linear Motion concept. The quasi-experimental study with the design of one group pre-post test design was conducted in class VIII B of SMP Negeri 1 Banjarharjo in the academic year 2018/2019. The pre-test results showed that 16.67% of students were categorized quite critical to very critical and 83.33% of students in the less critical category were not even critical. The post test results showed that 91.66% of students were categorized quite critical to very critical and 8.34% of students in the less critical category were not even critical. The results of data analysis also showed an increase in students' critical thinking skills by 0.56 with moderate criteria. The application of guided inquiry learning assisted by scratch media can train and increase students' critical thinking skills on the concept of linear motion.

Abstract

The results of study Trends in International Mathematics and Science Study (TIMSS) 2011 at the secondary school level showed that the achievement of learning outcomes of Indonesian students in the fields of mathematics and science had not shown satisfactory results. One way to implement effective and enjoyable learning can be supported by teaching materials used in learning. Teaching materials are one of the supporting factors for student learning success. This study aims to produce products and apply teaching materials based on Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) to determine the profile of the cognitive process of understanding the concepts of vocational students. The method used in this study is research and development. Characteristics of STEM-based teaching materials that contain material about vibrations and waves associated with STEM aspects and equipped with problems and practical procedures. The results of the analysis of teaching materials can be categorized as feasible, with a percentage of 78.46%. The results of the analysis of student responses after the application of the teaching materials were obtained with a percentage of 83.74% so that it can be concluded that the teaching material included in the category is very practical to use. The results of the cognitive profile analysis of students' understanding of concepts obtained an interpretation percentage of 76.06%; exemplifying 84.44%; inference 67.78%; comparing 62.59%; explain 59.89%.
