Abstract

This research was conducted in the aim to analyze the language style used by millennial generations in social media, instagram, in their daily captions. With Martin Joos' theory, five different language styles were examined. Frozen style is one of them, as are formal style, consulting style, casual and intimate style. The researchers applied qualitative research design to answer the research question and choose content analysis because the result of the data analyzed is the caption the teenager wrote on his Instagram account. The researchers used documentation as the research instrument. The researchers took 30 data from caption posted in January until July 2021. Data from the teen's Instagram caption was used in this study. There are thirty (30) pieces of data total. After conducting this research, it was found that the dominant style type on Instagram is casual style, which accounts for 17 cases (56.7%), formal style accounts for 10%, consultative style accounts for 2 cases (6.7%), intimate style accounts for 3 cases (23.3%), and frozen style accounts for one case (3,3). Participant, setting, and topic all have an impact on the language style you use. Abstract

This study was focused on determine the types of use slang language style. The types of slangs were analyzed from “Charlie’s Angels” movie. Theories used in this research were Sumarsono (2007) about the types of slang language style and Zhou & Fan (2013) about the functions of slang language. This study was conducted using a descriptive qualitative method.This research is the kind of content analysis study based on the way to do qualitative research. The way to collects the data are; downloading movie, watching movie and downloading movie subtitle. The data were from a movie entitled “Charlie’s Angels” in the year of 2019 with action-comedy genre.After conducting the analysis, this study showed that there were four types of slang language style from six types of slang language. They were clipping, creative, uses the existing words and metaphor. Creative was found as the most dominant types of slang language style in the movie with 10 data (40%), metaphor with 7 data (28%), uses the existing words with 5 data (20%) and clipping with 3 data (12%). Finally, the reseacher hopes that this study will be useful for the future improvement of studying literature, especially about slang language style

Abstract

This research is a study of improving students’ ability in reading comprehension. The aim was to find out whether the use of Herringbone technique would bring a significant difference in teaching reading comprehension through Recount text, compared with the result before the students being treated. The study was conducted in the tenth grade students of SMA N 4 Pematangsiantar. The research method used was the experimental design, where the Experimental group was the PMIA 3 class, and the PMIA 2 class as the control class. Both of the classes had 34 students in each of it. The data were obtained through pre-test, treatment and post test. The pre-test was held to know the students’ basic ability or score before treatment was given. Meanwhile, the post test was held to know the students’ achievement and significant effect after the students were taught using Herringbone technique. Finding of the research showed that both groups had a significant improvement in their reading ability after being treated and passed the KKM. The Control group, which the pre-test score was 60, made an improvement shown in their post-test score in amount of 70,44. The experimental group, the group which the researcher treated the Herringbone technique to them, had a higher improvement than the control group. The average score of pre-test in this group was about 54,41 where then being improved up to 78,97. The score of t-test (3,981) was higher than t-table (1,668) at the level of significance 5% for two tailed test, so Null Hypothesis is rejected and Alternative Hypothesis is accepted.

Abstract

This research is aimed to find out whether using Anagram Game give significant effect on students’ vocabulary achievement at grade eight of SMP Negeri 8 Pematangsiantar. Problem raised in this research is “What is the effect of Anagram Game on students’ vocabulary achievement at grade eight of SMP Negeri8 Pematangsiantar?”. To answer this problem the researcher uses some theories, namely: Bachtiar (2014), Harmer (2002), Hiebert and Kamil (2005), Hatch and Farhady (1982) and Sutherland (2009). This research is quantitative research design. Experimental was conducted as the method. The sample of this research are two classes which are VIII-4 as a control class because they are active with better achievement than other class and VIII-9 as an experimental class because they have lower achievement. The result shows that using Anagram Game on students’ vocabulary achievement at grade eight of SMP Negeri 8 Pematangsiantar got high level where as the score of t-test (4.65) was higher than t-table (1.679) at level of significant 5% for two tailed test. So Null Hypothesis was rejected and Alternative Hypothesis was accepted. After analyzing the data, the researcher concludes that using Anagram Game significantly affect the students’ vocabulary achievement and her suggestion is English teacher should have creative method in teaching English to their students especially to increase their vocabulary by using Anagram Game, so that they are not boring to learn English and make the enjoy on it.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh TikTok terhadap minat belajar siswa kelas 12 SMA Swasta RK Bintang Timur Pematangsiantar. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kuantitatif, termasuk data yang dikumpulkan melalui kuesioner. Penelitian ini memiliki dua variabel, yaitu variabel bebas X yaitu siswa kelas 12 yang menggunakan aplikasi “TikTok” dan variabel terikat Y yaitu Siswa SMA Swasta RK Bintang Timur Pematangsiantar Pematangsiantar. Pendekatan analisis data yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah metodologi regresi linier sederhana dengan aplikasi komputer SPSS versi 17.0. Berdasarkan hasil analisis korelasi dan regresi sederhana linier sederhana, variabel siswa kelas 12 yang menggunakan aplikasi “TikTok” memiliki hubungan yang signifikan dengan nilai koefisien korelasi sebesar 0,635 terhadap variabel Tumbuh Minat Belajar karena nilai korelasi dalam penelitian ini adalah dalam interval koefisien antara 0,660 dan 0,799. Berdasarkan temuan penelitian ini, aplikasi “TikTok” memberikan pengaruh sebesar 40,4 persen terhadap minat belajar siswa SMA Swasta RK Bintang Timur Pematangsiantar

Abstract

This research is conducted in purpose to identify types of idiomatic expressions found in “A Dog’s Journey” (2019) Movie Script. The researchers used Lim’s theory (2004). The source of data was the script of movie entitled A Dog’s Journey. The methodology which used in this research was qualitative research which specifically referred to document content analysis method. Method of collecting the data was searching the movie, downloading, watching and understanding the whole movie. After collecting the data, the researchers did data preparation, data reading, data confirmation, and calculation as the data analysis. After investigating the types of idiomatic expressions found in A Dog’s Journey (2019) movie, the researchers found 36 idiomatic expressions. The idiomatic expressions in A Dog’s Journey (2019) movie have been analyzed in types; there were 17 phrasal verbs with percentage 47,2%, 3 phrasal prepositional phrase with percentage 8,3%, 3 prepositional phrase with percentage 8,3%, 3 idioms with noun as keywords and with percentage 8,3% , 5 idioms with verb as keywords and with percentage 13,8%, 4 idioms with adjective as keywords and with percentage 11,1% and 1 idiomatic pairs with percentage 2,7%. The conclusion of this research was the dominant of idiomatic expression used in A Dog’s Journey (2019) movie is phrasal verb.

Abstract

This study is aimed to investigate the students’ difficulties in using personal pronouns in writing recount text at grade eight of SMP Negeri 8 Pematangsiantar”. In this research, the problem is as follows: “What are the students’ difficulties in using personal pronouns in writing recount text at grade eight of SMP Negeri 8 Pematangsiantar?”. The objective is to find out the students’ difficulties in using personal pronouns at grade eight of SMP Negeri 8 Pematangsintar. To answer the problem above, the researcher intends to use the theories of Collins (2014), Siahaan (2007), Derewinka (1990), William (2005), Frank (1972). The methodology used in this research is the Qualitative research. The subject of this research is grade Eight of SMP Negeri 8 Pematangsiantar. The data collected by observation. After analyzing the data, the researchers found that there were three kinds of students’ difficulties in using personal pronouns in writing text, namely: Personal pronoun as subject (34%), personal pronouns as the object (24%), and personal pronoun as a possessive adjective (42%). It can be concluded that the students at grade eight of SMP Negeri 8 Pematangsiantar still have difficulties in using personal pronouns when they write a recount text based on their experience. The researchers suggest the students’ should memorize the kinds of personal pronouns so they can use it well.

Abstract

The aim of the research is to analyze the three types of deixis analysis using Yule’s (1996) theory and interpret the reference meaning of deixis that are found in the Lewis Capaldi’s “Breach” album song lyrics. The researchers selected this song as subject of analysis because the popularity of the song and also it consisted of such as deictic words. Therefore, the “Breach” album song lyrics can be analyzed by using pragmatic approach especially using theory of Yule (1996) about deixis analysis. This study was conducted by using descriptive qualitative method. The kind of this research is content analysis. The data which used song lyrics of Lewis Capaldi’s “Breach” album (2018). In addition, this song was classified into three types of deixis analysis based on their own criteria. The result of this research showed that the three types of deixis using Yule’s theory such as person deixis, spatial deixis and temporal deixis are used in the Lewis Capaldi’s “Breach” album. The most dominant type of deixis in this research were found is person deixis with 11 data (55%), spatial deixis with 6 data (30%), and temporal deixis with 3 data (15%). The use of person deixis indicated the participant in this song. While, the spatial deixis indicated location and place of event from the participant. Moreover, the temporal deixis indicated the timing of speech event which is used in this song.

Abstract

This research is aimed to investigate the speech act between seller and buyers in ‘Sinaga Shop’at Jalan Melanthon Siregar Pematangsiantar. Speech act is related to utterances. Communication can be said successful if the speech act between speaker and listener are good in daily life. The transaction in the market between seller and buyer is also inevitable. Therefore, the problem of this study is: “What kinds of speech act verbs do the sellers and buyers use in ‘SINAGA SHOP’ Jalan Melanthon Siregar Pematangsiantar in their daily conversational transaction? To answer the problem above, the researchers follow some theories that related with the problem, they are speech act theory by Austin (1962) and Searle (1985). Descriptive qualitative approach was conducted. Participants of this study are seller and buyers at “SINAGA SHOP”. They are female and male. Context of the study is the utterances of seller and buyers in “SINAGA SHOP”. After analyzing the data, the researchers found that there were some verbs that the seller and the buyer use in their daily transactional conversation, they are: Representative include suggest, report, state, inform, complain. Abstract

Program Kampus Mengajar merupakan salah satu Program Merdeka Belajar – Kampus Merdeka (MBKM) dari Kemendikbud yang memberdayakan para mahasiswa/i Indonesia untuk dapat belajar dan berkontribusi secara langsung dalam dunia pendidikan, terutama dalam mengembangkan kemampuan literasi dan numerasi peserta didik pada jenjang Sekolah Dasar dan Sekolah Menengah Atas yang berada pada daerah 3T (Tertinggal, Terdepan, dan Terluar). Program ini telah berjalan pada dua angkatan yakni angkatan sebelumnya, Kampus Mengajar Angkatan I (KM1) dan angkatan yang sedang berjalan saat ini yaitu Kampus Mengajar Angkatan II (KM2). Mahasiswa yang lolos seleksi dalam program ini ditugaskan pada mitra sekolah yang dipilih oleh pihak penyelenggara program Kampus Mengajar. Adapun sekolah yang menjadi tempat pelaksaan program Kampus Mengajar Angkatan II yang telah saya lakukan bersama dengan teman-teman mahasiswa lainnya yaitu SD Negeri 177041 Simarhompa, Desa Siabal-abal III, Kecamatan Sipahutar, Kabupaten Tapanuli Utara, Sumatera Utara. Program yang telah dilaksanakan oleh mahasiswa selama penugasan yaitu program mengajar, program membantu adaptasi teknologi, serta program membantu administrasi guru dan sekolah. Setelah melakukan penugasan Kampus Mengajar Angkatan II di SD Negeri 177041 Simarhompa dari 09 Agustus 2021 sampai dengan 17 Desember 2021, mahasiswa maupun pihak sekolah sama-sama mendapatkan banyak manfaat dari program ini. Mahasiswa mendapat banyak sekali pengalaman secara langsung dilapangan, baik saat pembelajaran dan juga saat menyusun program bersama teman sejawat. Sedangkan pihak sekolah penempatan mengaku banyak terbantu dengan kehadiran mahasiswa, baik dalam bidang program mengajar, membantu adaptasi teknologi, dan membantu administrasi sekolah mapun guru.
